Maxidot Display Retro-fit

Featured Replies

I have a rare beast of a VRS CR170 without maxidot.

Might be interested in changing if the price is right.

I know there have been similar threads before for group buys, but thought I'd place it here to see if there was any other interest.

The idol who is VRStu has arranged previous buys - any possibility of another please ?

I'll start a list going, so feel free to cut and paste and add your name if interested.

if enough of you want one then i cannot see why not!! ;)

as above, interested but price dependant, and would want the correct one for a 1.9tdi elegance.

thanks

Count me in, again based in price

The current £ to Euro exchange rate will most likely mean these would come in at 30% more than they did last time.

Fek that then, will wait 10 years for the next boom :)

I've come across this website, but can't interpret it

Octavia II | Interiér | ALPA-Auto - Úpravy seda?ek & prodej originálních dopl?k? voz? ?koda

Don't know how up to date it is either, but they appear to have maxidot displays for the VRS for 4700Kc (whatever they are). They appear to be in km/h, so also don't know if they can be supplied in mph, or even if they will supply to the UK.

The exchange rate between the £ and the Kc is around 30, making the display about £160.

Does anyone know if you need a dedicated display for the diesel VRS and the petrol VRS ?

Has anyone on the site ordered anything from them in the past ?

I've tried sending an email to their address on the homepage, but haven't yet had any reply.

I would suggest if you can get them from him then do so as I can't get them anywhere near that price.

Don't forget to factor in bank transfer fees and shipping though.

Got a response today from the website at post #9.

They can send to the UK, but dash will be in km only. Does anyone know if it would be possible to put an mph insert in, and, if so, where you can get them from ? Am also awaiting a response to let me know postage cost and payment methods.

BTW - they also appear to do a MF steering wheel with flappy paddles if it's of any interest to DSG owners for approx £300 which seems to include the airbag. Might be interesting if that could be retro-fitted !

Another site worth checking would be www.skodateile.cz I have no conection to this site other than buying my own maxidot there. Positive experience.

These are the dashpods on that site.

Vindis Cambridge (Skoda Main Dealer) told me that they would be willing to attempt to retro-fit a Maxidot in my vRS if I managed to source one.

They thought about an hours labour should cover it.

If anybody is going to look into a possible group buy then I'd like to add my interest for a Maxidot for TFSI MPH - cost dependant really.

Don't think a group buy is going to be an option this time around, but for your information this is the response I got from Skodateile - price including postage doesn't seem too bad, and for the comments I hear about what maxi-dot can do it seems like it could be worth having.

Hi

VRS maxi-dot disply for Mk2 Octavia VRS diesel in miles per hour - 1Z0 920 942E in stock

price - 242,31Euro

ship to UK - 20Euro

TOTAL - 262,31 Euro

best regards

Looking at the exchange rates on xe.com, that equates to £229.46 inc postage, though it's likely to be a bit more than that by the time your credit card company have given you a lower exchange rate. I think the last price for a group buy was £195 + postage, so it's still a good price

I can get my hands on the whole dash and stalk from my scrappy, would this be a cheaper option as only the mileage, keys and ecu would need redoing

Don't see why not, so long as it's compatible with your model - what is the donor vehicle at the scrapyard ?

Thanks to thebrymar for researching this. The Skodateile price looks quite attractive and the website has the petrol vRS version at the same price you have been quoted.

Don't think a group buy is going to be an option this time around

Is that because you don't think there would be much of a saving against the price Skodateile are offering for one unit, numbers interested too low or just the logistics of getting a group buy approved and organised?

I'm fairly new round here so just looking to clarify the situation before deciding whether to do my own thing.

IIRC, somebody said that the dash pod could only be programmed with the correct mileage once, i.e. from new.

This might be why nobody else has gone down this route.

Apologies if I'm wrong on this point.

Hi Karlos, you are quite correct, the dash pod can only be programmed with the mileage once. When I had mine fitted they had a problem with their system after they had programmed in the mileage and had to refit the original. When I was able to get back to the dealers and have the job completed I had done another 127 miles and they were unable to correct the mileage on the maxidot, so my car effectively has been clocked.

Thebrymar contacted me by PM as to the cost of fitting by a dealer, and as already mentioned in this thread it should only be one hours labour plus the VAT which cost me a total of £59.63. It should be a little bit cheaper now due to the cut in the rate of VAT. :)

Its a 1.9 tdi Ambient hatch.

The mileage can be set to the old one with a lap top, just the same way some do clocking, I dont know how they do it I dont ask:)

Does that include the stalk as well:confused:
