  • Popped to the garage at lunchtime to swap coolant temp sensor. I don't think it's the problem but it can't hurt. Going to swap O2 sensor later for the spare I have. Went well, all sorted in 5 mins. T

Cleaned it. Washed it with Body Prep shampoo, clayed it with the G3 mitt, then rinsed it with water, then decontaminated with some of the Iron-Out (thanks to Devontopia for selling it to me at the Blyton meet) Took the number plates off and cleaned them and behind them. Then washed it with body prep again to get the Iron-out off then rinsed it off, then dried it, then tried out my DA with the softer of the 2 pads and some diminishing G3 scratch remover (it was dark by then so I just went over it quickly with the "it's better than if I'd done it by hand" opinion rather than trying to pursue perfection and c**k up completely) then wiped it down, then waxed it (AG HD wax, by hand (noise prevention, don't want to upset neighbors do we))then while I was waiting for the wax to do wax stuff I wiped it away from the number-plate areas and put the back plate back on with my Briskoda pate surround and the front one on as it was (surround didn't fit because holes weren't in any real position) and I used the new screws that I bought a while ago as well. Then I wiped the wax off and got a mitt and cleaned the polish spray off the windows (might have used too much polish, might have been holding the polisher wrong, don't know). And then I put AG tyre dressing on, stuck the wheel covers back on, parked it back up, packed stuff away and filled the washing machine with MF towels and mitts.

The rear right number plate screw didn't want to come out, it was just rusted to the point where I put the screwdriver on it and it just crumbled away. Ended up getting a pair of pliers and griping it from the outside. Great for stopping thieves, sure, but stops me cleaning for a couple of minutes too.

I don't know what the car looks like now, I was having to remove polish by torch light it got dark so fast.

Studded tyres on. Plugged in to the engine warmer for the first time. Scraped off ice and brushed off snow for the first time. The day after a hand wash and wax :(

Oh and fitted temporary elevation to front passenger seat in case ms deli's water broke on the way to the hosi

how do you find the oil change vacuum pump?

Fitted it with 4 yokohamas so I can have some grip on the roads again

Sold it.

Had a tinker about cleaning parts in the engine bay, clean rag was soon a black and oily rag.

A small screwdriver helped push it into those tight and hard to reach places.

Looks a lot cleaner now, just wish it had more colour in it rather than so much black and drab metal grey.

This was my before and after, believe it or not this is how the dealer released the car to me on purchase.

A very good effort.

May I ask what you used to clean it? I just used an old rag, which seemed to attract dust crap and oil quite well, but the plastic still looks 'dulled' and still looks slightly dirty.

I used this stuff only because i had loads of it laying around :D

Nice job

Looked into why my headlight washers weren't working. Checked fuse to see if it was blown, it wasn't, it was gone! God knows why I did that but I shall be going through my car parts bag when I get home as I must have removed it when fitting the new piggy back fuse.

Glad it wasn't anything costly, just stupidity :D

Fitted my new private plates :D  (Nearly cocked it up by using the old screw holes as a guide , turns out the old plates where slightly out :D)

If I ever were to put new plates on mine I wouldn't be using the old ones as guides. The back one is fine, although possibly 2 mm low at 1 side. Front one however has both holes drilled into the bumper. There's 2 sets of factory drilled holes, then 2 sets of idiot drilled holes.

BTW your engine bay looks great now. Mine still has most of the cobwebs it had when I bought it.

Not today but two days ago.....

A recliner ?

A recliner ?

:D

Fitted winter tyres and steelies to the near side.

Left alloys and summer tyres on the offside!

Alloy key is knackered and no worky now!

Garage visit tomorrow to see a man that can, hopefully.

Looked at the maxidot to see whether the nav was working. It's not. Might be a visit to someone with vcds...

Will that be a case of just getting a new, standard Skoda key from the stealers or is it aftermarket? Or are bits stuck in the bolt?

Don't worry about the sat nav. I'll take that maxi dot off your hands then you won't have anything to worry about.

Thinking of getting rid of the original locking bolts. May go 3rd party or standard bolts.

It's the key that's gone looks a bit stripped in a couple of places.

Taxed the Octy. Ouch !
