However he has now signed Dan Cammish - most definitely a winner, but has never raced FWD.

Tordoff massively better than Neate. Good first 2 races for Plato!

  • I'll always support Plato purely because he winds people up but has the skills to back it up, unlike a certain Chris James who has blocked me on Twitter. I didn't say word to him either With Turkingt

I think Rouse is a great driver but his numbers are flattered by the fact that his second title was inherited due to politics  and his 4th was almost a given since he had the only turbocar in the top

Cammish signing appeared to happen after Dynamics negotiations with Matt JACKSON broke down.  Matt has now been dumped by Motorbase apparently as a result of going after the Honda drive.

So once again, a top level BTCC team has a spare seat and is looking for a lead driver, this time for the Focus.

Matt Jacksons' Shredded Wheat Focus has now got James Cole as it's driver.

Latest line up here:

2018 BTCC line-up so far

WSR BMW: Colin Turkington, Rob Collard, Andrew Jordan
Team Dynamics Honda Civic: Matt Neal, Dan Cammish
Team BMR Subaru Levorg: Ash Sutton, Jason Plato
Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis: Tom Ingram
Eurotech Racing Honda Civic: Jack Goff, Brett Smith, Matt Simpson
Motorbase Performance Ford Focus: Tom Chilton, Sam Tordoff, James Cole
Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall Astra: Josh Cook, Senna Proctor
Ciceley Racing Mercedes A-Class: Adam Morgan, Tom Oliphant
HMS Racing Alfa Romeo Giulietta: Rob Austin
BTC Norlin Honda Civic: Chris Smiley, James Nash
Laser Tools Racing Mercedes A-Class: Aiden Moffat
Team Hard Volkswagen CC: Jake Hill, Mike Bushell, Michael Caine, Bobby Thompson
AmD Tuning Audi S3: Ollie Jackson, Sam Smelt
AmD Tuning MG: Tom Boardman
Team Parker Racing BMW: Stephen Jelley

Thats 30 so only 2 To Be Announced if there's a full field - the second MG and another?

Looking a lot like last year then; supporting Colin Turkington, Rob Collard, Andrew Jordan, Gloss Neal, Ash Sutton and Aiden Moffat, and as a Briskie Racing fan I've also got to support Team Hard don't I?

Looks like Mat Jackson shot himself in the foot.

I think Dave Bartrum pulled the trigger.

Seriously though, if you were a long time driver for a team that could win races but not a championship, and a works Honda, BMW or Subaru squad came calling what would you do?  You'd at least investigate the situation regardless of your current contract status.

The difference this year at Motorbase is the proven winners already signed for the other 2 cars, as opposed to the make-weights they normally run.  If Chilton and Tordoff weren't already on board, I doubt the boss would have been so keen to dump Jackson.

Indeed Sam Tordoff was signed up the day before Mat got the push.

OK, so I'm now supporting 11 from 32 drivers! That would be even sillier if Flash hadn't gone to TCR.

Rob Austin fastest in Donington BTCC testing in the new Alfa!

Honda, BMW, Ford, dominate qualifying. Subaru miles away, like last year.

But Ash won !

...I mean't like qualifying last year at Brands Hatch for the opener.

Last year the Subarus qualified positions 19 22(Sutton) 27 31. And Sutton gained grand total of 0 zero points from the 3 races.

This year 18(Sutton) 29 31 - the car is slow again. This time Plato got the 0 points.

Anyway, on this weeks evidence the new Honda is terrible too, Norlin are probably running 5 year old Civics and are still faster in race trim.

I'd say Ingram, Turkington, Morgan and Sutton are the best out there this week. Neal and Plato look even more past it than they did last year.

Mind you, after those 3 races it should be compulsory to have a damp track at BTCC meetings ;)

Just caught up with Donington, great racing but aren't the old guard are looking past it, apart from Turk who's having terrible reliability instead.

Flash has gone, Plato should retire, Neal getting battered by his rookie team-mate, Collard and Jordan not getting any decent results.

The new age is here, Ingram, Morgan and all the others are going to give us a great title fight.

  • 3 weeks later...

Well done Matt, somehow Honda always fly at Thruxton, even though they , just like RedBull, constantly moan about having no power.

On another front, just when is Plato gonna quit?

What's the point of hundreds of driving standards warnings when Josh Cook deliberately missed the chicane and was allowed to keep the win?

Bull5h1t stewarding Mr Gow.

  • 1 month later...

I rewatched that, Josh Cook had to miss the chicane to avoid an accident. He clearly had the faster car.

Honda do well at Thruxton as its a handling circuit and the Hondas carry speed through the bends

I think I'll have to book tickets for Snetterton and Knockhill

Are you going to the 60th anniversary at Silverstone? the Volvo 850 Estate will be there

Just watched Croft, and the championship suddenly has all the Usual Suspects at the top again.  It's taken half a season but Turk Neal and Jordan are in the top four.  Of the youngsters that dominated the early rounds only Ingram is staying the pace (in the Toyota that must be the oldest NGTC car out there - the first NGTC prototype was an Avensis back in 2010)

  • 4 months later...

Did  you know that the minimum weight of a BTCC car including driver is 1,280kg before success ballast is added. Due to air restrictors they each produce about 370bhp from their 2.0litre turbo engines,

  • 4 weeks later...

BTCC down to 30 cars next year. Alan Gow thought 32 was too many.

Also the HMS Alfa team are not racing next year.

Eurotech look to have gone too.

Will he get a drive? He really should pack it in. Sutton has destroyed him 2 years running.
