Is any one happy with their Octavia?

Must say... thought I'd go for Audi or BMW but reviews made me choose otherwise.

Been driving the car for only 2 years or so but put over 200,000 km on it in that time.

Only thing that went was the water pump... but just in time as I needed to replace the

cam belt and I understand the water pump is automatically replaced with this service.

Otherwise, except the brakes, all is original clutch, shocks, muffler...

Some weeks ago I was driving across Denmark's country roads (ok testing to see how low

I could get the fuel consumption) & got to 4.5L/100 after about 600km of real driving.

That's less than the mfg rated 4.6L new!

Best car I have ever owned.

If the small minded, want to keep dishing out the gags from the nineties. Fine, go ahead, stay away from Skoda!

Bought my CR Vrs estate, with lots of toys, from a Citroen dealership with 40K on the clock. I knew I liked the look of it and the test drive was good, but now with 7K miles under my belt the car is awesome!

Had some 'problems'; (wheel bearing - luckily covered under a 1 year buyers warranty from said french dealer, odd knocking noise from rear turned out to be loose wishbone bolts)

Replaced and still replacing some broken bits, it was a company car! :wall:

And this is still the best car I have owned; ranging from the good (golf gti, golf tdi, Clio 172, Leon tdi) to the bad (Escort, Lancia Thema, Triumph GT6)

Roll on many years of Skoda, but shhh it's a secret! OK?

My 3rd Octavia and they are getting better and better, though I do prefer my pre FL look to the current FL, just personal opinion

I love my Octavia VRS. It's only a 2006 VRS so not a spring chicken but it runs absolutely brilliantly, is comfortable, rapid, looks great... awesome car. And even if they cost the same money, given the choice again, I'd pick the Octavia VRS over a Golf GTI or comparable spec Audi. It feels like with those you're paying for the name, or you feel you have to have something to prove. With the Skoda I feel like I'm buying it for MYSELF.

My other car is a Corrado VR6 - I've had a long time affinity with Corrado's lasting over 10 years and the VRS is the first car I don't get back into after driving the Corrado, and wish I was back in the Corrado again. I *enjoy* driving the Octavia almost as much as I do the Corrado.

It has needed some work doing under warranty (new alternator - the old one made the car sound like it was supercharged!) but that was sorted fairly painlessly so can't grumble otherwise!

WOW, random revive...no?

The beauty of online forums eh?!

As for the topic, 2 months in to owning my first Skoda - FL Octy VRS - and I love it. every journey is a pleasure. Its the first car I've owned where strangers have approached me asking about it. I live in suburbia, where Audi Vauxhall and Ford dominate, but the Skoda sticks out and always gets admiring glances. All of the petrol heads I know have been congratulating me on my choice and looking to get their hands on the keys.

1 thing - I bought a petrol VRS, therefore MPG is not a priority...

Random revive indeed! Love it. I remember this one well!

Had mine two and a half years now. Still very pleased, but excitement wearing off!

It'll be paid for in July '13. Then........ Run it into the ground or move on? Mmmmm.

I've owned my 56 plate 1.9 diesel Elegance for sixteen months now and I must say, it's one of the best cars I've ever owned. Thanks to Mr Cameron & his austerity measures, my workplace was relocated and I am now faced with a 100 mile round commute.

I was looking for an economical, yet reliable car and considered an Audi A3 before I plumped for the Skoda. And I must say, it's been a fantastic car. It's comfortable, reliable, economical and spacious too. Much bigger than the A3 I had considered and much better value for money in my opinion.

It was a one owner, low mileage car with a full Skoda history. I spoke to the previous owner before I bought it and he reassured me that the only reason he was selling it was that he had promised to buy his wife a BMW when she retired. Alright for some eh?

It's my first Skoda, but certainly won't be my last. Yes I've had my fair share of mickey taking from the lads at work, but they soon change their tune when they've been in it.

I've certainly no plans to change it any time soon as I tend to look after my cars and run them into the ground. But if I do, it'll definitely be another Octavia.

Girlfriend wants another peugeot........ Still time to change her mind I hope! lol.

Girls seem to like small french cars- can't for the life of me think why! My daughter loved my Clio, I hated it-piece of french merde. Guess it's a venus and mars thing and as most have little or no mechanical empathy they can't see beyond the shiny easy to drive front!!!

I'm kinda glad that Skoda has the reputation it has. This means we all still get good solid German cars at affordable prices!

As a brand I'm far more inclined to go Audi, but I'm not a fool, and my Octy VRS CR is easily as satisfying and reliable as its Audi equivalent, at significantly less cost to me.

I've had the VRS for a month and wacked 2500 miles on it already, it's easily the best car I've ever driven in my life.

One or two issues at the start with the wind noise thing, bubbling paint on the spoiler and a missing rubber grommet cap on a front headlight. All sorted in a few weeks by customer service so can't complain on balance.

I'm looking forward to many many years of good ownership (please don't let me down Skoda!)

I'm happy with my Vrs, only thing i don't like is fuel cost! I didn't think it handled that great on ice this morning, compared to my old Honda Civic. This could be due to my low profile tyres, everytime i braked lightly it would make this horrible grinding noise and just keep going! I might buy a Yeti after this one.

1.4 TSI Estate 2012:

+ DSG gearbox, for obvious reasons.

+ Engine. It's very smooth and makes for very relaxed driving with the DSG. It's no Volvo 2.5T, but then again it doesn't gulp fuel like one either.

+ Cabin and boot space is great considering it's a Golf-class car. Doesn't feel like much of a downgrade coming from a V70.

+ Fuel economy

+ Turning radius, (again) coming from a V70

- Heater could be better. Dreaming of a Webasto...

- Main beam is halogen only. Bi-xenon + halogen would be nice. Then again, there isn't a car in the world with a main beam powerful enough for me.

- Road noise with studded tyres.

- I miss the cubbyholes my V70 had under the boot floor. Perfect place to stow jumper cables, tools and so forth.

I would buy one again, and I can't say I'd want to change anything about the spec either.

Interesting about the turning circle. I noticed how much less I need to do 3 point turns etc. Turns like a much smaller car.

Odd about the heater. I find mine warms up very quickly and in this weather I set the Climate control on 72 F. (Mind you, Finland might be more of a problem!)
