I've been advised by my dealer that my Week 19 car has been stuck at Grimsby docks since the 18th of May due to a huge backlog of cars awaiting delivery?

I just wondered if anyone else has suffered this unwelcome news? According to my dealer thousands of cars are stuck there right now.

That's nice then, all that salty sea air eating into your paintwork.

all the pannels are covered in plastic during shipping to protect them, mines was when i seen it at the dealers, all the pannels and plastic trim outside was covered in plastic film

i might end up joining you Ricko, nothing wrong with my mk1

no phone call again from them, so much for a call every friday. i havent actually had a second call yet since the end of march, only call ive had was to say id get one each week :S

ive no issues with waiting so long as we are all in the same queue, me thinks Slowda are just taking the pish

Sounds like me, the reason I was buying one was that I spent the last 2 years working particularly hard on a big project, so I was kind of treating myself. The 20% discount sealed the deal for me, and I banged in loads of options. So with being messed around any sense of "treat" is gone and to carry on is pointless.

It's not just the delay it's the seeming indifference of the dealers. They never once phoned me except when I chased them ... and they haven't apologised, just accepted my cancellation. They probably can't help it, it's Slowda that's carp and the dealers are in the same boat as us.

They have lost me as a customer, I won't go back to Skoda now, time for a change.

Question - how come Skoda get such good reviews for customer service in JD Power etc ? I haven't ruddy well seen it.

By the way, isn't this behaviour by Skoda misrepresentation ? In theory you could sue for damages ...

From Wikipedia :

"Misrepresentation is a contract law concept. It means a false statement of fact made by one party to another party, which has the effect of inducing that party into the contract."

From Honest John's website: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/

Case Law: Johnson v HWM Ltd 17-3-1997 Kingston County Court

Allows an indefinite delivery date for a new car and also change of specification of the car in between dealer order and manufacturer delivering the car to the dealer because both are out of control of the dealer. If a contract has been entered into between dealer and customer with a substantial deposit, then that contact remains binding and, unless specified in the original contract, an indefinite delivery date or change of specification are not breaches of contract.

I have been waiting (& waiting) for an Octavia Scout since late Nov 2010.....

11 weeks from order to delivery to the day... dead impressed... well worth the wait!

I picked a car in a build queue once - 8 weeks and it was mine, including a week waiting for DVLA to pull their finger out of their a**e

I had to compromise on spec (no maxidot) but figured that I could retrofit if I was that bothered. And in fact, the non-maxidot display on the FL's is MUCH nicer than the MK1/PreFL so didnt bother.

Spoke to the Dealer over the weekend to see if there was a "confirmed" build week or delivery date. There was...

Early part of October, two months later than I was originally quoted after ordering in early April. Nearly seven months?!

Dealer said the key problem is VAG can't make enough DSG gearboxes to cover all the models now offered with it. Skoda may be suspending the DSG 'box on certain models to speed up delivery times, he mentioned a couple of Roomsters have already had it taken off the options list.

At least my car will have the Black Pack and new reg plate.

Ho hum.

...or you could be really "lucky" and get a 12 plate car! Actually perhaps shouldn't have said that.

I phoned my dealer this weekend as well, and have been given a date delivery at the beginning of October. That is a month earlier than promised so I'm happy!

It's our cars four week anniversary of sitting at Grimsby docks tomorrow and still no word from our dealer. I'm really struggling to understand it taking four weeks and counting to organise transport from Grimsby to Birmingham. Anyone else still got a week 19 car sitting at the docks?

Please contact Skoda customer services on 08448267863.

I can confirm that we have no delays with transport due to any backlog of transport. We are currenly delivering cars within 3 - 4 days of arrival at port.

If we have delayed transport it may be for good reason but we need to understand the detail so we can fully investigate this issue. Please ask customer services to talk to the sales office with your vehicle details so we can fully investigate this matter on your behalf.

they should listen to customers but i doubt they really care anyways, they treat us like mushrooms and keep us in the dark

Popped into the dealer to express my opinions politely today to say that i wasnt happy with the service and too see if they had a build week for it, Sure enough come back and said it probably wont be here till october at the earliest, so i said well u can shove it, so there gonna look for a car similar spec to mine in the network and give me a ring :wonder:. Shall wait and see as i am not prepared to wait that long for it and not too fussed now what colour just want sat nav and bluetooth. So if they cant get a car im afraid im cancelling, which is the last thing really as i do want the car but just not prepared to wait another 4 months as ive waited 3 already(Dunno how some people cope unless under certain circumstances).

Had a call from my dealer, my car has been put into production- exactly 4 months from order. (see p17 for more detailed spec and timeline)

I have to report a result on this one. The manager of our dealership rang up today to advise he had been contacted by Skoda head office regarding the delay in delivery. He was very helful; he had accepted the consignment and placed a delivery order on the car. He later rang back and confirmed delivery for Monday next week with pick up available from Wednesday! :D

So a big thank you to all concerned and touch wood next week we'll be going from driving a 13 year old extremely leaky ford to a new skoda! *crosses fingers*

No.. u are thinking wrong..

If they viewed this site I think they would make my fabia long time ago..

but hell.. I hope newspapers world around do! and write about skoda and the support they have..

for not to talk about the ONE YEAR waiting for a fabia..

Ordered 20 Oct 2010.. build date week 36 (2011) and delivery perhaps 3 weeks after that..

Sloda update on order placed 16/11/2010; as they no longer make the Octavia in Aqua Blue they have no build date and I have to choose another colour (couldn't make this up) Just sent a meldrewish email to the CEO, Customer Services and the Czech Republic. They still do the Superb and Yeti in AB so what's the problem!

Order Summary:Placed 16/11/2010/Octavia 2.0 CR Scout Estate/Options:Variable boot floor/Electric Sunroof/Met paint Aqua Blue/Multifunction for Maxi-dot/Space-saver spare.

And I will also be writing to the motoring press, The Sunday Times and the Consumers Association (Which?), all of which I subscribe to. If I have my way, Skoda will not be winning any more customer service awards.
