Unprofessional and unacceptable. I'd be looking for replacement rims.

Absolutely no need for alloy (or steel, for that matter) rims to be marked at all during fitting - Was it Kwik Fit, by any chance?

Sorry to hear about you're damaged rims! :S I don't know of any rights you may have? Maybe a phone call to CAB will help?

I'll be changing my summer tyres over to the 225/50/R17 winters at the end of the month. I'll be taking photos of each alloy beforehand after seeing this. Although my tyre fitter seems to have done a good job last winter, and only charges £30 for all 4 tyres.

I bet they'll try the old "they were damaged before we began fitting your tyres Sir..............." trick.

Get good legal advice before any confrontation with them, and good luck.

Looks like the rims were put on the machine upside down, with the outside face downwards, and they have slipped when the fitter was removing or fitting the tyres.

Not acceptable in any way and they are liable for the damage.

Same as a garage damaging your car when in for repair.

They should pay for brand new rims to replace all the rims they damaged.

You do not have to allow them to fit your new tyres to them or the new wheels to the car.

Your reason is obvious. They have caused damage and you no longer trust them to do the job without causing more damage to the replacement wheels.

Go to your local Skoda dealer and get a quote for fitting tyres to all the damaged rims and then balancing and fitting to the car.

( always assuming it wasn't them who did this in the first place?

In an ideal world the garage liable will pay your dealer directly but I suspect you might have to pay Skoda and then claim the money back from the garage.

I would certainly pay CAB a visits as well.

Good luck and keep the thread updated as you go along

I had a punture repaired and the wheel was scratched during the repair. This was at an independent garage and they had the wheel professionally repaired once I pointed the scratch out.

I was lucky I guess in that the car was spotless when I took it in and they could see that 'I looked after it'. Best thing to do is speak to them and see what they say. Any further action can then be taken as appropriate to their response.

One thing I learned from all of this is take photos of the condition of the wheels before taking them in and get the garage to note and agree the condition.

Hopefully you'll get a speedy resolution.

The outer edge of Dolomite alloys are very thin (lost a 2cm 1/2 circle from one when 'gently' kerbed). About

3-4mm thick at rim I guess not like my Honda which is a lot thicker which I assume would take damage without destroying wheel.

Sorry to see such damage , it,s caused by the steel fitting head on the machine being set too close so that when the pressure of the tyre is pulled onto the head the wheel rotates under the edge of the fitting head scrapping the wheel , the two dot marks are from the back of a tyre lever which was used to pull the tyrebead over the fitting head while demounting the old tyre it hit the wheel without a plastic protector fitted.

normally caused through one of four reasons inexperience , wear in the equipment , the worst of all not giving a dam or lastly a cheap shoddy job by someone who thinks they can fit tyres.

A legitimate company should have told you , apologised and offered to rectify the problem as the company i work for would have done , if this did not happen have you approached them over this and had any satisfaction if not as long as you have a receipt (i hope) contact the head office.

Next time try finding a company like Feltham tyres who have invested in the top equipment like leverless fitting machines or our new hawkeye wheel aligner etc you will get a better job.

p.s i have run feltham tyres heathrow for about twenty years now and on the odd occasion one of the staff do damage for one reason or another i always talk to the customer and we have it rectified

just received a phone call from the fitter and he has arranged to get them repaired by an independent specialist but does not know when they are able to do them.

he also said that the marks from the Tyre lever are unavoidable and that it would happen any where i have tyres fitted :giggle:

lets just hope they do a good repair

He's talking b*ll*cks!

All tyres can easily be fitted/refitted without rim damage.

Are they members of a trade association - if so they need reporting.

Why not find your own specialist - these folks local to you get really good reviews on the GolfGTi Forums - why not pop over with your wheels before for a price and then go and get your tyre fitters to stump up

A1 Wheels are great. I've used them a few years ago.

I agree that the statement about the marks from the lever is rubbish.

Check what kind of refurbishment you are getting you dont just want a local area touch up you need a complete refurb like A1 or spit & polish would offer with a warranty not just a car sales 3 month finish.

How long have you got to loose your car for and will it be safe there etc , when customer have refurbs with us it's a four day service (i use spit & polish) to have them done and the car is kept on axle stands in a secure locked yard.

We had our standard tyres changed for Goodyears and there was not a single mark on any of them. Same alloys.

This was using a small tyre fitter located in our local supermarket car park too.

All i can say is ensure the repair is done by a professional, previous repairs done before I owned my last car came off as soon as the I had tires fitted, i had always been a little suspect of the area, so could not complain when everyone's favorite tire supply firm said they were concerned when fitting and when they were damaged after I agreed they could proceed at my risk.

I had a wheel damaged by tyre levers at National Tyres. Didn't notice it till I got home.

Whenever I have new tyres put on by Farmers Skoda the wheels are left in perfect condition.

Whoa! That looks a bad one! Obviously the fitter is an incompetent who requires a swift kick in the pants for this shoddy workmanship! Even back here in India, I haven't come across this level of uncaring incompetence! I would, if I were you, catch a hold of the fitter and take him rather severely to task, possibly with the application of a little light 'inducement' in the form of lighted matches between the toes or suchlike! If I could make him pay back by buying me new wheels, I would do so if I were you!

That a mess. There is no need for that to happen to the rims. I have had 35 and 40 profile tyres on my cars before and they are very difficult to put on and take off but it can be done without damaging the rims if the fitter knows what he is doing and takes care. The fitter who carried this out for you either didn't know what he was doing or didn't care, perhaps both.

I would imagine you have every right to get the rims repaired at the fitters expense, did you point out the damage at the time of the work as it would be difficult to go back to them after the event?

I washed my Yeti just a few days ago, cleaning the alloys last, with no marks or imperfections. Needing 4 new tyres, I called my lease company who told me to use my nearest Kwik-Fit, who fitted 4 Michelin premacy tyres, (just over 900 quid!) thankfully this was at no cost to me. On the downside I have just noticed both front dolomites have 2-3 inch long scratches on them. Took me a while to check because it's pi$$ing it down here. Whats annoying is I have 4 Falken winter tyres swapped in November through to March done by an independant 1 man garage, and never had any problems. No-doubt Kwik-Fit will deny the damage and I will have to repair these myself when the cars returned to the Lease company next June.

yes the independent garages do tend to take care of wheels i had one of my rear tyres repaired after a puncture at an independant and there are no marks on that wheel at all.

Very true Matthew. I've since drove back to Kwik Fit and had a word (I remained calm) with the assistant manager who didn't completely deny they were responsible, and will get the manager to phone me back. Needless to say I'm not holding my breath.

It is annoying when you take such care, as I'm sure we all do, of our Skoda's. I'll keep you all informed of any outcome.
