Warning: Fabia Door Leaks

Recommended Posts

In fact, if I can get confirmation from a mod that they will pin it and lock it if I write it, I'm happy to create an extensive post that pulls together the above, full steps (with pics if anyone has them) along with links to every other cause documented in this post and elsewhere.

This would be awesome. Very happy for you to use any of my pics, if useful.

Edit: Actually though, there's at least one thread already in the Fabia Tech Guides section (though not pinned) that covers this, thanks to DRJ.

This one:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/226475-fabia-door-carrier-seal-repair-illustrated/

There may be others for all I know, but just remembered this one.

It seems that the 'extremely-useful-fabia-1-topic' has links to quite a few threads and one of them seems to be about this problem.

Maybe then we just need to get a bit more organised with the tech guides, plenty of other guides on other issues and mods in the archives that could be promoted into there too.

That may be a better idea.

If a link to DRJ's how-to-fix-the-problem thread (this one, as linked above) could be added to the "extremely useful" post, it might be more useful to most than the existing link to this thread?

Agreed wino!

This was the guide I followed. Easy step by step and my rear doors havnt leaked a drop during the awful weather / rain this winter. Maybe elaborate a little more on how important it is to go as far up the carrier sides as possible and to get as much of the old foam seal out before filling the remaining gap to the max with the plumbers gold???

DRJ mentions using a plastic spoon, I used a cheap filleting tool from b+q for bath sealant. Each to their own!

I seem to have this issue.

How are people applying the tape? On the inside or out?

I'm definitely not mechanically minded and i don't think i can use the street as a work area.

The garage i took it to seems to think that replacing the rubbery seals around the frame is the answer.

It's a sealant you need not tape. Something like Plumbers Gold is fine.

It will not be the rubbers around the door frame. Garage doesn't know what they are talking about.

Apply like this to both front and rear door carriers. It's not only the rears that leak....

Follow Tim's advice as it is spot on.

You will need some of these clips to refit the door card. The existing ones will almost certainly break when you remove the card! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-INTERIOR-DOOR-PANEL-RETAINER-TRIM-CLIPS-X-10/190476203072?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Be vigilant with the sealant. I've noticed a leak after "fixing" mine. Another job for the Fabia #backlog
