As the Yeti VRS is often used on tracks, it might be possible to place some air ducts to provide the brakes with extra cooling. Even with uprated pads it should benefit from lower temperatures.

Please tell me you are telling all of the supercar owners it is more or less stock apart from some minor chassis and braking tweaks and a custom paint job.

looks like the Yeti vRS held it's own there The driver didn't do too bad either

The Yeti VRS caused enough confusion that when my stock 2.0 litre diesel turned up at the back of the pits there were several people checking it out to make sure that a second Yeti wasn't going to appear on the track.

 

Not one remark about the colour. I guess you have to be a Skoda enthuiast to know that it's race blue and not available as a standard colour on a Yeti; which made it even more of a surprise on the track! :evil:

What is clear is that two jobs need doing.

1. Get decent brake pads.

I couldn't go into full track mode because the pads wouldn't have lasted two laps.

By easing off early and braking more gently I was getting 6 to 8 laps out of them.

2. Get an uprated exhaust system to match the downpipe better.

I think it's getting too hot when using a lot of revs in third.

In the first session I started to lose power after 5 laps as I was flying out of corners in the high rev range of third.

After this I kept it in fourth more, got on the power early before the apex and then was past the lag as I came out. So much smoother. By only dropping to third for one corner everything was a bit a cooler and no heat or power loss issues happened in the 6 to 8 laps before the brake fade/smell set in.

On the last session I just drove round in fourth and changed to fifth once on the main straight.

Clearly the wider powerband of a petrol has it's advantages.

Handling is great and it feels really planted at high speed.

Great fun too!

It's just a Yeti to most people, they don't know a Race Blue Yeti is quite rare.

Awesome to think that the R8 couldn't shake you on the twisty bits or the straights! Guess he gave up trying to keep you behind him!

Have just been looking at times and it's quite interesting.

 

With a clear lap my Red Yeti (200bhp 4x4 diesel) would do around a 1:01/1:02 driven hard with late braking and everything spot on.

 

The Yeti VRS managed a 1:00 today on the last lap of session two.

That was the only clear lap I had, including a slight lift to let a well driven Caterham Academy car past.

Considering that's on lap 7 my brakes were a bit shot, I lacked confidence in them and I was clearly easing off coming into corners.

Not to mentionion avoiding third gear (other than Druids sometimes) to help heat/power issues.

 

Whch means with decent pads this car should easily put in a sub one minute lap of Brands.

Which for a Yeti I personally find quite impressive.

 

I'm well happy with that, my goal is a 58 second car.

The same time my Skyline did on it's shakedown day at Brands with Charlie and Pete.

And just to make it better, the R8 was a limited GT which if I remember cost the best part of 160k with the Carbon Fibre Kit.

Also had the old R-Tronic gearbox, which takes some driving to get the best out of it.
