The Twins. (And Yeti RS)

Just a thought but do you think your IATs are too high? That might cause the car to go into self protection mode and pull the timing. Although yopu do seem to have a much bigger intercooler. Or maybe the fuel injectors are maxed out and the ECU/map can't add any more fuel to cool things down. It's hard when you're on the bleeding edge.

You can't judge anything from the picture as it was running and parked, which sees certain temps go up.

Coming down the motorway the intake temp was around +20c and it was over that outside.

Only way I'll know is next time I track it.

Fortunately it's a well known conversion backed by a big company that already been done to the Octavia mk2 VRS for a while.

So it's nothing new or out of the ordinary really, it's just a bit unusual on a Yeti. :)

Unusual on a Yeti? Really?!   Just caught up with the progress on your car Richard - looking very nice indeed. :) I spoke at some length with Evan re the APR route when getting mine done - they've done quite a few Octy VRS's as mentioned. Looks like you are treading a now proven path with the mods - havent had an issue with coil packs since swapping over to the Red top R8's about 18,000 miles ago but a heads up for anyone reading this in future - the SuperPro alloy arms are simply VW Passat parts that they polish up and insert their bushes into - so a far cheaper route for the same final result for anyone thats doing it with a budget in mind. :) Oh and I love the PolarFIS unit -

Comes in at £165 plus postage currently which is very reasonable imo for what it gives you. :)

Richard - how are you finding the suspension setup compared to the standard setup? How does it compare for comfort in daily use (trying to ignore the fact the seats wont give too much comfort per se) Im awaiting Bilstein to get the B8 dampers sorted and then I may be tempted to change the current setup (already have Eibach Pro springs waiting!)

It's obviously firmer with very little roll.

But I like it like that because it's more track focused with great body control when throwing it around.

On the road it's what you'd expect of a KWv3 set up.

Firm, but perfectly acceptable.  Plus adjustable.

Great work Richard. To think, this started off as a dull grey (no offence Lee or other Steel Grey owners  :) ) Yeti only a few months ago.

I've tipped my hat so many times to you mate that it's fallen on the floor  :D  but it looks cracking.

Fingers crossed, not long now 'til I'm back at work and you can give me a spin out   the M11's pretty clear about 11  ;)

I wouldn't want to be responsible for you needing another spell off work... :peek:

Had a catch up with Neil earlier. He mentioned you took him over the flats the other day, he did say that the seats were uncomfortable  :D  but he also said that it is (to quote) "a f*cking weapon"!!

I said put your foot down and I think he got a bit of a surprise. :D

He didn't mention that, shame the drive recorder wasn't facing inside, would have loved to have seen him brick himself when he floored it  :D

It's that time again... :D

So, end result of lighter battery, front wishbones, few bits of trim including engine cover =

Full fuel tank.

Seats in = 1,526kg.

Seats out = 1,452kg.

Now = 1,430kg.

Not a bad 96 kg out so far!

that's less than the gross weight of a MkII Fabia :o

Yes, but it needs a driver unfortnately. :giggle:

Considering stripping the carpet out and attacking the sound deddening now.

But that means having to put a new floor covering in as the pre-molded one won't then fit.

I'd be over the moon to get it down to 1,400kg.

why do you need a floor covering?

edit:

On the weekend i saw a banger racer with an off cut of carpet bolted to the drivers floor pan with what looked like 1/2" bolts and 2" OD washers  :D

I'd like a bit of carpet in there, just for looks mainly so it doesn't look too daft.

But I guess I could stick a section of thin fabric down just in the front footwells.

Just spray the footwells in plastidip :)

How much do the roof rails and side protection strips weigh?

Those Annapurnas look quite heavy too...

Nooooo, don't lose the carpet, the car will only go one way from there - fully stripped, roll cage, perspex windows........

...... then again, maybe you could remove the carpet  :p

As above, lightweight wheels would be a must for me - OE in look but something light like flow formed Turini's perhaps. That would make the most of those unsprung weight reducing Passat arms also. Roof bars would also get removed as they have hit to be fairly substantial to take a 100kg load is have thought - would lower the centre of the cars gravity slightly also - so particularly good areas to loose weight from IMO :)

Have you got electric rear windows? Perhaps the motors could be lost as you have no rear seats and so don't really have any need for them.

BTW, did you get anywhere with the new brake pads and exhaust?

I know you keep saying they are Passat arms, but that's not what I bought. :)

Roof rails stay, they are part of what makes it a Yeti IMO.

I might have a look at lighter wheels though, but I am very keen to keep it looking OEM-ish.

Guess first thing I should do it weigh an Annapurna.

The rear doors are still full of stuff.

I was going to strip them before the last track day.

But upon taking off the door panel I found the removable panel with the electrics on it actually held up the rear windows.

I need to figure out a way to jam the rear windows up so I can remove the electric motor, mechanism etc...

New brake pads are in and the exhaust is due next week.

My Cousins Land Rover Freelander's windows are all held up with wood, but not as one would assume to save weight, its because the mechanisms have all broken, every single window! :D

Would a wooden shim work? Or something along those lines?

Any suggestions for a lightweight rim in 17"?

Stock is 7" wide, but happy with 7.5" wide.

Help/suggestions appreciated.

MUST look like it could have come on the Yeti when it was new...

Apologies, I thought you had the superpro arms - they are passat arms that they make sparkly and bung their bushes in... I've been away with only the mobile for viewing the last week so I've obviously lost track with this one. :) I agree on the bars being a main yeti design element - depends on how desperate you are to save the weight I guess :)

They are SuperPro arms.

Hence they are sparkly.

Hence they are not Passat arms. ;)

They are super lightweight shiny ultra racing arms that add 100bhp, or as I refer to them, lightweight arms.
