Tyres for Octavia II

Featured Replies

I have a '57' Octavia estate 2.0 TDi - need to replace the front tyres. I have Michelin Primacy HP at the moment but they seem to wear pretty quickly. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Cheers

I have Dunlop Fast Response on all four of my '07 Estate (2.0 Tdi) and find that they are wearing quite well.

I think I'm up to about 11,000 miles of predominantly steady paced driving around country roads with some tread left before I get to the 1.8 minimum.

If you need to know more, I can check details over the weekend.

Continental Conti 2's (my previous set) seem to wear pretty quickly though.

I Just fitted Uniroyal rainsport 2's to the back of mine seem to be okay.

The Primacy usually has a pretty good wear rate, as it's not an overtly 'sporty' tyre. When you say quickly, how many miles have they done and what depth remains? Just to put it into context....

I'll need to get some soon myself, and I'm leaning towards the Rainsport2 or Hankook Evo V12.

Uniroyal RainSports

With the cost of fuel these days, the additional cost of running good quality tyres is minimal. So why not get the best, like Michelin or Bridgestone?

'Top level' I'd consider and buy would be Michelin, Pirelli and Goodyear. I exclude Conti and Dunlop as I've never got on with anything from them.

And any Bridgestone I've ever tried have been mediocre at best, especially considering the price. Their 'RE' range is well regarded mind you.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2s. A great all round tyre. Not cheap mind!

I got two 205 55 R16 Bridgestone Turanza ER300A from Blackcircles £150 fitted... seemed like a bargain

Depends on what you're after and what your expectations are. Personally I rank the ER300 amongst one of the worst tyres I've ever run, especially considering they're from a 'premium' manufacturer.

Thankfully I finally finished them off at a Briskoda 'handling limits' day on an airfield! I was convinced the tread compound contained granite....

Mine are wearing well but I'm fed up with tyre noise - what do you reckon are the quietest (no racing envisaged !!!)

Again, the Dunlop Fast Response is pretty good for noise. Not noticeable except on the usual road surfaces.

It's mostly wind noise I hear on mine.

Mine have 41k, the rear ones are fine for another 10k

The front are almost to the limit

I agree very noisy tyres and seem that they aren´t round anymore

On good road the car seems it´s going over small bumps.

In dry they are OK ( I do have XDS activated)

On wet they are the worse tyres I ever had

I personally have vredesteins and rate them very well, ive done about 3k so not much but still loads of tread to go,the comfort is there, the handling is fantastic in the rain and i paid £100 each fitted on 18's

Octavia 2TDI 1.9 Hatch

Left factory with Bridgestones. Worst tyres I've ever had. Very noisy and lousy uneven wear. Got rid at 19,000 miles.

Put on Michelin Energy.

4.5 years later rears have lost 2 mm in 25000 miles

Just replaced fronts worn down by 3.5 mm because showed cracking round the base of the tread blocks. Rears did not.

Considering front tyres work hard and this is hot Costa blanca I'm very pleased with Michelins. The new Energy savers are very quiet.

I've not bought anything but Mich for 40 or more years.

Just my 2 peas worth.

Rainsport 2's here.

+ 1 for the Vredesteins Ultrac sessanta's, great tyre, however they are a noticeably noisier than the Continental SP3's the car cam e fitted with, they were also damned good tyres as well, lasted 22K miles, next tyres will be Good year f1 assymetrics though

I have a full set of Yokahama C-Drive 2 on mine and they seem quieter than the Michelin Primacy HP, wear rate seems good and they are very grippy in the wet and dry. I do about 20K a year, and the fronts from last summer (probably about 13K miles) are less than half worn when I put them back on a month or so ago.

They aren't a bad price either, I paid about £130 for 2 new ones fitted with new valve and balance. I think BlackCircles wanted about £150 fitted. If you are anywhere near Chesterfield I can recommend a good tyre place, my cousin has just set up in business again, see this thread for details

I have run Yokahama tyres for years, since the days of the A008 tyre for the 10 inch rim on the Classic Minis in my youth ........ (showing my age now :-) )

Ours has the (presumably?) orignal Dunlop SP Sport 01 fitted.

'Up to press', it's covered (circa) 9,500 miles, with marginal wear showing.

The ride seems good, not had any rain of note to see how they are on a wet/greasy roads

Continental Conti 2's (my previous set) seem to wear pretty quickly though.

Our previous XKR had 'Sport Contact 2' on all 4 corners & they were superb tyres, even with 400BHP/400Ib/ft of torque transmitted through them. ... and ..... on the occasions the Traction Control was turned off they hung on, unless really provoked!!!

No noticeable wear in the 8,000miles that we put on it! (took over 3 years to do so!)

Mine were Premium Contact 2's. Can't comment on the Sport Contacts.

Got between 16-18k using ContiSport 2/3 on front and 25k rear. Great tyres but do get noisy as they wear.

Just been swayed by Michelin PS3 after doing a bit of research and coming to the conclusion they may be a better compromise.

Deffinitely a quieter tyre (might be because the side wall appears more supple/softer?).

Got them from Costco but they werent cheap @£147ea inc fitting.

Thanks for the feedback - I think I will try some Michelin Pilot Sport 3 (as they get such good reviews) and let you know how they wear / feel / ride.

Hi

I have to agree - had bridgestones on my astravan and they were terrible - noisy and dangerous in the wet. Have Falken 452 on the van now and a couple on the VRS and they are much, much better.

Cheers

Dave

What is the best tyre for long life - maximum mileage?

Something with a hard compound, one of these eco tyres.
