I have a screen to fit it to but no camera yet, Jars (currently at Glastonbury watching Metallica)

has a helmet cam he uses when snowboarding which he's going to lend me to have a play with.

Looking forward to filming a few rides. Should be fun.

Not sure I want it on my head though.

I'll be getting a Drift Ghost "S" camera when i want to upgrade, it's whats used for onbike footage in BSB.

More importantly all the Drift cams sit flush to your lid, whether its on top or on the side.

Smart pieces of kit and fantastic dealer backup.

Ah I see, I did consider that as I have all of those items sat next to me, only thing is I dont know if I want a GoPro mount stuck to my helmet all the time. I guess for a decent POV thats the only way to do it, I cant think of a slightly less permanent method. I'll have to have a think, quite like my lid as it is lol.

Cheers!

When you buy one you tend to get a few self adhesive mounts that the other bits then clip onto, you could have one on helmet and a couple on bike in different places. Camera unclips from the sticky mount, so not permanent, permanent. It really depends on what the purpose of footage would be for, nose mounted is what I used to do with a Sony CCD Bullet Cam and PVR box, camera mounted under headlight above front wheel and hard wired to bike (PVR box under seat), I stopped using that when it broke in 2011 and moved onto a stand alone unit which was the Bullet Cam HD (highly reviewed at the time but utter crap camera in all ways), I mounted it on bar end which was the most convenient place at the time as it's supplied helmet mounts were worse than useless. Then moved on to the GoPro in 2012 after a couple of weeks of the Bullet Cam HD.... (still annoyed at wasting £180). Dead centre front like first camera was ok but only shows a fixed field of vision, even a wider angled lens would still only show whats in front, bar end was good in it's location being at one of most extreme far points from centre allowing a cross over angle but will fixed field and big blind spots like the front one. Helmet is the way forward, you look at something the camera records it fully and can catch things in mirrors etc. Only time I would consider mounting on bike would be specifically for a track day personally (if allowed).

Sony CCD (back in the day this was a £369 set up and as good as it got)

Bullet Cam HD on bar end

GoPro HD Hero2 helmet side mounted approx at eye line level

When I go to change the GoPro, I wouldn't buy the current new ones as I rate them as good but not worth the money! DRIFT destroy them now and are the way to go for shape and functionality, but WOW the prices are worse than GoPro. When I got the HD Hero2 DRIFT were still trying to break into the market properly and couldn't provide a camera as robust, reliable or with as good a quality of footage unfortunately, so I sold my soul to GoPro that fateful day. The HD Hero2 is a crude design aesthetically and with mounts silly looking IMO, but as it's absolutely bomb proof and works perfectly still, it is way down on my list of things to replace. Where as the GoPro's generally mounted on a helmet look like a box on some scaffolding the DRIFT's lens is not on the large face of camera but on the end so can be mounted shallower. But the prices for both GoPro and DRIFT are in the clouds against the competition, £330 for a Ghost - S, the GoPro Hero3+ Black edition is £269. GoPro prices were just slashed by £100 as they were over priced and masses have moved away from the brand as sub £50 cams have become direct competition on quality of footage, size and weight. I could set up 5 or 6 Mobius Action Cams with the accessories I would need and memory cards for the price of a DRIFT and it's not better enough any more to go for on footage grounds and that is my number one requirement. 1080p 30 FPS is all I want due to space footage take up.

Definitely the best camera for a helmet on the market today overall, but the price is outrageous. BSB it's not simply to pick the best camera but a sponsorship of sorts as it is being plugged heavily. After sales support is taken from Apple's example of a well designed/finished product charging the customer 500-700% mark up, then if it goes wrong just throw them a new one no quibbles and they are still quids in, but the customer will feel loved and gains future sales and recommendations with new found brand loyalty. I am hoping they will follow suit with GoPro's price cuts of late as if I really needed to replace mine tomorrow, I would end up with a GoPro for the price difference alone over the two. If they brought the 'S' down to £269 or offered a trade in for any old GoPro they would win that war over night!

Fubar you need to look up an old Performance Bike wright up on the ZX6R from 2000/2001 which had a good suspension setup. I had the J1 model of your 636 and I tried the setup from PB an it made the bike much better. I bought mine new at the time and did 20000 miles in 2 years, with a trip to the Nurburgring /multiple trackdays/south of France trips, ham fisted attempts at wheelies and rolling stoppies,  all on the original chain too. Brilliant bike and better than the CBR600 I had before it, plus the best headlights I've had on any bike.

Enjoy it

Cheers, I am quids in with this bike it seems. My mate who had the same A1P still has loads of parts and a Haynes manual etc even a spare complete rear wheel and a new tyre on it :D That's before the parts left from when he was breaking it.

I found the following made the bike better, for me anyway.

Braided steel brake lines all round, renntec sports rack and fixed foot rests(knurled ones) and regular cleaning of the chain made it last forever(paraffin and toothbrush). Other than that just ride it, it can take the abuse.

Nice to know that is someone parks across two spaces, it creates a couple of motorbike bays :-)

A good mate of mine did Europe with us 2 years ago on his ER6 because his Fazer 1000 was off the road for a few weeks. Never had a problem at all, you can tour on anything :)

How was it at Johns aka Greybeard? I'm there in August on the way down to Italy on the GS

Went for a wander to that Wales, nobody else seemed to bother :)

Next year, late May bank holiday, I am organising the annual pilgrimage to the Harz in Germany, staying at my mate's Pension in Bad Lauterberg. I will post again nearer the time, but it's normally about 6 days long and ideal for anyone wanting to cut their teeth touring. As well as some great biking roads, you will get to do a Dambusters tour on the way, and get a trip down to Colditz castle, and many many other bit's n bob's.

As I said, it's a great intro to touring in Europe, here's some snaps from some previous ones

It was OK. The restaurant/bar and rooms are what would probably be described as traditional or functional rather than luxurious, but they did the job. Food is basic but pleasant enough and the beds, whilst very comfortable, are in real need of a refresh in the duvet & pillow department.

John clearly knows his stuff and is happy to advise on routes for days out, especially as he watches the weather constantly and knows what roads are busy when.

John's clearly doing a good job of keeping the neighbours happy, and doesn't tolerate speeding, stunts or excessive or unnecessary noise in the village, all of which I think is perfectly reasonable.

I was less impressed by the "no food in the rooms or we'll charge a clean up fee" rule, as my decision to take a cup of tea and a couple of breakfast items back to the room for my young lad rather than wake him on a day when we were clearly going nowhere, was meet with abject horror and a lecture that left me completely clear as to the hotel policy.

So I was quite happy with the place as part of a biking tour, but I'm not desperate to return especially as the entire region seems to be "biker friendly".

A wee clip of her after I hacked away at the garden around it this afternoon (broke my yard brush am gutted). No idea why light was on on phone and mic is at opp end of phone and covered by hand, but you get the idea.

Love the clip, brought back memories. Just seeing those clocks and thinking how much I use to have the needle hovering round by the redline

Sounds lovely, I bet she sounds even better when being given the beans

Paid £1.40 for a tin of diet coke from the National Trust robbers and rode back home.

Slightly embarrassed to still have chickenstrips. :(
