Fabia Vrs Oil Fix

Featured Replies

hi VickyVrs, and welcome to Briskoda

As a lady of course you are welcome, and from behind a keyboard who knows. Anyway, on this site you will find many threads relating to high oil consumption with the vRS. Is there a cure? We all hope so, or at least those of us suffering hope there is one. Just stick with it an hopefully Skoda or more realistically VAG will discover what went wrong and how to solve the issue.

And oil consumption aside though, its a great little car.

In answer to your question at least one person who has had a new engine still suffered high oil consumption. Was yours a full engine replacement or what they call a short engine?

  • The vrs won't have the oil in the system long enough for it to do any damage

so after all that reading .

what do they exactly change to the oil breather ?

mine used around 0,75l oil in 30.000km .

Hi Jerry. That's the problem.... I love my car but not the problems. I had the old model for 8 years and didn't have one problem with it. I believe it was a full new engine but I'm not sure.... I'll ask when I'm next in the garage. They know me so well there!!! My dad has just ordered a brand new Monte Carlo after being put off by my vrs so I hope he doesn't have the same problem.

If the vehicle has a new engine it should have a new engine number or block with a new number and you will need the engine number changed on the V5,

which surprises me about the short engines,

are they stamping them up to match the original numbers and scrapping the block removed.

How much kidology is going on with VAG/SKODA i have no idea.

Are they reconditioned engines sent through on a return basis to the dealer?

I doubt a crate arrives with a nice 'complete new engine' to be fitted!

maybe a Tech on here can answer that?

george

The part they replaced is basic engine. My new engine number are exactly the same as the one in the seat.

I hope ladies are welcome here. I've got an 11 plate vrs and mines under investigation by Skoda. I've had a new engine after 5000 miles as I was told this should correct this problem but it's still drinking oil and I'm forever back at the garage. Has anyone else had the same problem after a new engine and if so what happened next?

Hello Vicky,

When you are next at the Garage could you please ask for the old engine number and ask them to give you the new one. Ask them if the replaced engine is brand new or a reconditioned unit as VAG mostly fits reconditioned parts for warranty repairs. How much oil does it use now and how do you drive it-hard or gently?

kopo,

Same as which number, the one that has had a grinder taken to it?

My stamping is identical & the grind marks a little neater.

*That is not the 'Engine number' as used on the V5 tho.*

& the orange sticker is '19 06 10' on my car first UK registered July 2010

& the engine was rebuilt or it had new short engine/block this time last year.

Hi,

Just to weigh in with my details, picked up my brand new vRS a month ago, engine details same as yours sk4gw and kopo, red sticker date 26/7/2012, so my engine was built around 4-6 weeks before car was shipped. I used roughly 250ml oil in 500 miles, going to check again at 1000 miles to see what the difference is.

I will try and remember to do that. I was told it was a new engine to cure the problem as VW had been working on this fault accross the whole VW group. Garages will tell you anything though, especially women!! I drive it carefully as I don't find it fuel efficient and my journeys tend to consist of sitting in traffic.... that doesn't mean to say I don't like the odd race or to beat my time every time I travel to my friends house 70 miles away!

In answer to when the engine was replaced, it was May 2012 and it has had a top up with oil at the garage, another top up in August when it was serviced and another last week of 1.5 litres..... All within 3000 miles.

Thanks Vicky,

It looks like new cars from 2012 have oil consumption problems as well... dammit, I was hoping that was resolved in the most recent batches...

Have to call the stealers to check when my vRS will be ready for pick up - build week was 42 so last week...

Yours better not use oil other than a little in the first few thousand miles.

I have a bet running on it not.

Vicky,

it is not the best idea to let it go as low as to need 1.5 litres put in at one time, if that is what it did need doing.

george

I had no idea it would be so low after only a few hundred miles. I should have guessed I'd need to keep topping it up after the garage gave me a bottle of oil to keep in the car after I had the new engine. Thankfully I work about 3 miles from the garage so its easy to pop along and get them to deal with it. Jabozuma, my car is a 2011 plate so I really hope you have a better engine in your 2012!

Vicky,

I was more referring to this post...

@George,

I bl00dy hope so you win your bet man :D

Vicky,

have you read the Owners Manual & some of the stuff on here on how to dip to check the oil level.

It needs to be run for around 10 miles before the oil is up to normal running temperature & then left to sit a few minutes then the level checked on the dipstick?

Is the garage always dipping it to check when hot, & then topping it up to the top of the hatched area?

george

This is a VW Polo Manual not a vRS one

& the dipstick pic is from another members car, dipped when hot and needing topped up.

My mates wife had a call from the garage to book hers in for "the oil consumption fix" hers is an 11 plate, new inlet manifold and new oil breather pipe to be fitted

Thanks George. I have no idea to be honest what they do. I did the typical woman thing and have not bothered with the manual as since my manual told me the bonnet lever was on the drivers side of the car and its not I gave up reading! I am making notes of all these comments to take with me next time I go to the garage. My knowledge of cars is not great as prior to owning this vrs I had the old model for 8 years without a single problem so never felt the need to understand cars!

Mine was also week 42 build,it's current status is "At Germany port released for shipping."

I assume the port is Emden, hopefully it will be loaded on ship very soon.

Yay! Did you call the stealers and they confirmed that over the phone or you have some other way of finding out?

I was told my is going to be arriving at a port in Sheerness, Kent http://www.medwayports.com/sheerness/automotive.htm.

I am off to call my lot now :)

I am using "Track my Skoda",but this only a system provided by two dealers.

Mine should be shipped to Grimsby.

Your dealer will have the info, but,if they are less than helpful, you can always go to Skoda Customer Services who can also give you the up to date position.

If you can get the name of the ship, you can track its voyage through shipping websites.

I've just had a call from my local Skoda dealer (someone must have been reading my posts on here) and they have booked my car in for more tests as Skoda Technical are still not happy with the oil consumption after my visit last week. They are possibly fitting an oil breather (I hope I got that bit right). I have got a brand new engine and they need to give me the new engine number so I can advise the DVLA. Thanks for everyones help so far.

That is honestly unbelievable that the "new" engine is still using oil... Could ask them a specific question and ask for it in writing as well.

"Is the engine you replaced a brand new unit or a reconditioned unit. Could you please confirm that this is not a reconditioned unit please?"

Get old engine numbers and new engine numbers from them including production dates for both engines.

This is to make sure theyy are not BS'ing you and not giving you a reconditioned engine, which is probably a unit which was replaced due to oil usage, returned to factory for "reconditioning" and then being used for warranty replacement purposes aka your new engine. I think i'd be worth getting this investigated properly and putting it to bed.

You need to notify your insurers as well, just in case.

I was at the vw garage ain dealers and asked about the 1.4tfsi engine in the polo, he said the tech guy there that they did have issues but now sorted new design?, he said yeah the vrs has the same issue but didn't elaborate further but said they are frantically trying to sort it ? ,

We do kind of already know it is some TSi 1.4 twinchargers 178 or 182 bhp, & it does not matter if in an Audi, SEAT, VW or Skoda.

Its just that VAG do not appear to publicly say what is the problem with the engines they update, modify, repair, rebuild or replace.

It did start with SEAT's in 2009 & it is 2012 now,

that is some, '3 monkeys', See, Hear & Say no evil!!

http://www.ttf.icand...?t=8956&p=66759

*** If Dealership Workshops are fitting new blocks on behalf of VAG, with 'new/different' engine numbers and not informing the Registered Keeper of the New Engine Numbers and the need to inform the DVLA and have your V5 and possibly the VIN plate/sticker changed, that is a major oversight i would think.

Going to be a problem to VAG in the event of a vehicle being in an accident, written off or undergoing a VIC (Vehicle Identification Check)

roadside stop or a VOSA Inspection.***

Some that are undergoing troubles now and have the experiences need to get the Email of to 'BBC' 'Watchdog' and then VAG will

be more likely to admit the ongoing problems and the 'oath of silence' they appear to be holding to.

A few Forum & thread links should get things moving.

Some Emails off to VOSA as well.

george
