Did you get any luck with AU Trading Standards, motoring press, local press, Aussie forums?

After that towing, what happened? Did you get your car back on the road with clean bill of health from the garage?

Morning,

I am considering taking this issue back to Skoda HQ and possibly trading standards as this has been ongoing since January 2012. I am forever back in the garage and my life is going to be taken over by checking the oil, reading the manual etc. The car was only 6 months old when I bought it, and it was an ex demo from the garage I bought it from. My local garage have been great about dealing with it as they can only do what HQ advise them to do but enough is enough. I love my car but I don't want to be back in the garage every 5 minutes, expecially as I will be changing jobs in a year or 2 and will not be local to the garage. Has anyone received compensation/a new car as a result of this fault?

Yes several members from here have just this year.

Forewarned is forearmed.

Get that Trading standards advice first & Log a case with them, & possibly be prepared for a solicitor to be involved,

but you can Inform SKODA UK, they will be paying all costs and losses. JMO obviously.

Law is on your side tho.

PS, my vRS now was an ex Demo that the next customer who bought it rejected, @ 4000 miles & it had a rebuild & its fantastic, £14500 miles now. used oil from the rebuild @ 4000 miles - 7000 then none. 'bargain'.

I bought a second rejected car, 'Much cheapness'

but swapped it in a deal, it was great & the new owner is getting on very well with it.

Uses no oil.

I am ordering and having a new one when they annouce they are going to stop making them unless something

else very very good and is available instead.

The next models engines will be a disappointment i think.

My vRS has done 16,500 miles using 5 litres of Edge 5w30. Should I mention this to the dealer at 2 year service next week?

I am concerned it may affect trade in value next year.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Tony

That is considered a very low oil usage around here :D.

According to the manual normal usage is 500ml/1,000km (621 miles) so if you used 26 liters it would still fine lol.

Are you saying that since its 1 year or 10,000 mile OIl Change service you have had to top up with another 5 litres & now it has done 16,500 miles.??

Or done 16,500 miles since the last service?

(1st service 'they put in 3.6 litres' or so & should have had the correct amount in.

so how many litres have you put in since they serviced it?)

What mileage was the First Oil change service done at?

I can not see why it would effect your trade in value at a Skoda Dealership,

VAG/Skoda would claim that was normal oil usage.

Are you going to tell any other person when you trade your car in, 'This is an OIl user' ?

Trade in value should be based on Condition & mileage really

& the fact the Warranty is out, unless you have an extended one.

george

Mine is going in for a consumption test on 1-11-12 it has used just over 5 litres in 5250 miles, I kept hoping it would get better once it reached 5000 miles but it has been constant since i got it new last Christmas. At least I have the option of handing it back after 3 years if it does not get sorted but apart from the oil usage I love the car and would have kept it, but I would not consider that with such high oil usage.

If they don't do anything about it I will probably have to go for the new fiesta ST when it comes out which is a shame as this has been my best car.

Disregarding what the dealer put in, I have personally put in 5 litres since new.

I realise it's within spec, but I doubt I have put in 5 litres in cars over 15 years of new car ownership. I only keep cars 3 years.

I will look forward to my new vRS next year.

Tony

I personally would almost totally give little consideration to the first years usage up untill the first oil change.

What mileage did the First oil change get done at

& how much oil is required after that is what would bother me.

? What mileage was your (10,000 mile/1 year) service done at,

& How has yours been since the Oil change untill now.

How often did you top up oil or how much used between the service and 16,500 miles?

george

In my case oil consumption was 7 litres over the first 9,000 miles. The first service was at 9,500 miles. Around this time Skoda UK agreed to pay for my oil. I have now done 11,500 miles. Oil consumption has got worse. Currently 0,5 litre top-ups are required after less than 500 miles have been covered (I have kept very accurate records). The car goes in for the breather fix in a fortnight's time. The comment I got back from SUK is that the oil consumption on my car seems to be following a fairly typical pattern, i.e. getting worse rather than better after 10,000 miles. Castrol Edge 5W/30 has been used throughout.

Hi guys Aussie legislation says if your car is a lemon u are entitled to a refund or exchange I am waiting very patiently for VW customer service to deliver there findings.

When the car was towed back to dealer of course they returned it with nothing but positives. This dealer sells Audi and Ferrari also and have told me that the new A1 has the same issues but since doing breather pipe issues for that car have ceased. Who mows what the truth is. Cn u imagine if this issue was with a Ferrari can u imagine the out cry from customers demanding a new car.

As stated u by a brand new car for the main fact that u want reliability .

Seriously I am the only vrs fabia driver in Melbourne at the moment I live in the heart of CBd and pay a lot attention to cars. I was told by the dealer when I bought that Skoda was prepared to deal on the price because they wanted cars on the road here. A lot of people stop me and ask about car and I say love it but and it's a very very big but. People are speechless and others from smaller towns say that that would not happen due to completion.

You would think a company that is trying to get cars on the road would look after me knowing I am a bill board for advertising and if they did the right thing they probably would bennifit from it. If I don't get a new car I will be writing to the crs guide section in the state paper and from there I'm willing to sell what I have to fund a legal challenge. Fed up.

Love all you guys and love the comments Bring It On VW

Ha ha ha! That is the spirit!

Just don't sell your body parts :D

Just took my Fabia Vrs in to have an oil consumption test. I waited for an hour and it was all done, filled up to the limit with new oil etc. Then I was told that my engine had to have the new oil breather fitted and it's going in on the 12th nov. They can tell if it's needed by the number on the engine, so why drain all the oil too refill with new oil when they now know the problem is the breather that's fitted.

At least it's costing me nothing and I'm getting a hire car for the day.

Hi guys just wondering if any of you narrow down when Skoda would have known that there were issues with the oil consumption. I am getting no where with there Australia complaints service. The person who I am talking to has all the history but seriously has no idea about the issues with the oil etc. Australia legislation was implemented to protect the consumer. But Skoda play the same line and same car waiting for head office to advise him and then he tells me that there is no way I would get a new engine or exchange or refund which I am entitled to due to the oil issues that I have previously spoken about. Seriously this guy lies through his teeth and does it so easily it's scary. He keeps telling me that there is no issue with the Vrs 2012 and what has happend in Europe has no barring on what happens here. I get so frustrated banging my head against a wall that I requested to speak to someone else, and kept being told sorry I am the only that can help. I can not get an email address of anyone over your way to submit my complaint. People's I need help please .

Cheers coops

As I recently learned they started installing new engine number power plants recently in Europe allegedly with changes designed to combat oil usage issues. That engine has had a problem and as of late 2012 there was new engine being introduced to address that. So yes, he's laying through his teeth as those engines come from only one place on the planet in Germany.

Having had that one established you can move on to Consumer Protection Legislation in AU. All manufacturers have the right to fix their defective units within a reasonable time frame and without causing the customer unreasonable hardship. This is how it goes down in UK and I'd venture saying that a similar take is taken by AU legislators. You need to start reading the Consumer Protection Act or however this is called in AU, then quote the relevant parts. It would be wise to access some free citizen legal advice if you can.

Please remember this engine is not only fitted in vRS'es but also in Audi, VW and Seat. Please research their forums as I understand you are one of the very few Fabia vRS owners Down Under?

First write a letter to Skoda AU and your dealer stating that this is a common issue for CAVA series of 1.4TSi twin charged motors and already a new engine ( CTHE see here http://www.polovw.it...rt=2376#p545644 ) is being rolled in to replace those faulty units in second part of 2012 (maybe that is why he's saying that there is nothing wrong with 2012 engines, what is your engine number anyway?). Then go on saying that they had their chance of fixing that manufacturing fault, they took extraordinary amount of time, far beyond reasonable, to deal with it. They failed and in the process caused you unreasonable levels of hardship and incurred costs to you of no fault of your own. Then go on with legislation citing your customer rights. Warn them that should the issue be not resolved satisfactory by either rectifying the fault, replacing faulty motor with the new unit a full refund plus costs should be issued.

That is what I personally would do on top of copying this to the motoring press, local newspapers etc.

DISCLAIMER:

The above does not constitute in any way or shape any kind of legal advice, does not pertain to be such and should not be acted upon as such.

I am sorry you are being treated this way, really unfair as there is no fault of your own in this at all....

In good faith you spend hard earned money on a motorvehicle assumed to be fit for purpose and functional and got a dud intead.

Don't give up!

Thanks mate love the car f..... Hot

I must admit mine with racing blue and black roof with blacked out windows, I would pick yours.

Is there any chance you have email details of Skoda HQ. the only way to get someone with any idea about the cars history is those in Europe. I got told by the survey company that VW germany were not happy with Skoda AU.

I think if I write to them I might get some better answers. This guy seriously has no clue and will not let me talk to any one else. Our legislation clearly states that if the company did not disclose the true facts regarding the car I am entitled to exchange or refund. The guy keeps saying all I they have do to is return it to original warranty specifications.

To cut it short if I new about the issues with the oil consumption I would not have bought the car. My engine number is CAV415095

Hi All,

I have been off for a week so haven't posted to moan about my car! Its gone in today to have its oil breather kit put on but I am not hopeful it will cure the problem. A new engine hasn't. I am completely at my wits end now as this problem has been on going since January. I will be writing a very lengthy letter to Skoda as I bought this car thinking it would be just like the previous model (i.e. in 9 years I didn't have one problem). Moan over for a Tuesday morning.... Have a good one all.

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you" - this been around for a while and I do not think it lost any if its potency.

Contact trading standards. I have had the breather fix lots of weighing, trips back and forth and 10 litres of oil in 10,000 miles. I contacted trading standards yesterday logged my complaint. I have sent a letter to the dealer recorded delivery giving them one more attempt to sort the problem if not i have requested a refund or replacement. This is the advice given to me by trading standards. My car goes back for a final attempt in a couple of weeks. I'm now getting my receipts for the oil for reimbursement also.

You'll have to let me know how you get on, and good luck. Thankfully I've not had to purchase oil as the garage have done it all for me. I'd like to know what car you'd want as a replacement, assuming you want something similar?!

I would have to go Fabia VRS again although after having the Octavia VRS trouble free for 7 years i would be tempted with another. Its pursuading the wife though. I have no issues with Skoda in general and will stay with the brand. Best cars ive ever had.

Although I haven't had any problem with excessive oil usage, coming on here makes for grim reading - some people have had a nightmare experience.

From the SEAT and VW forums it appears there is a head-in-the-sand attitude across the VAG group. I'm on my fourth consecutive VAG car but this may well be my last.

Will be interesting to see how the revised CTHE engine performs. I'm surprized it's taken so long to reach production cars. Hopefully they have been doing extended testing it to make sure it's ok.
