1.8TSI 4x4 Yeti - RON 95 or 'super' RON 98?

Featured Replies

I've had my Yeti for 2 weeks now and have been filling it up at the pumps alternatively with RON 98 and RON 95. The reason for this is that in my old Octy 1.8 T I found the engine management light used to come on if I ran it solely on RON 95. There seemed to be no obvious effect on the car's performance on the lower octane just this annoying orange light on the dash, which would reset itself after a couple of days and then re-appear a week or so later. When this first happened I took it to the local Skoda specialist and all the error checks came up with no major problems and their suggestion was that I needed to 'drive with more gusto' (or words to that effect). Anyway, more gusto didn't really solve the problem but RON 98 did (cheers Ron ;)). After 133,000 miles in the Octy all was well, but obviously it was (ahem!) a 'trifle' more costly to run.

Am I likely to have the same problem with the Yeti on RON 95? What do other petrol heads advise?

Hi I had a 1.2 for 18 months and it was only filled with regular unleaded, from sainsburys (sits back and waits for the long argument about supermarket fuel :giggle: ) and never had any problems in the 18 months of ownership.

Try sainsbury's Super unleaded, 97 Ron and only 4p a litre more.

I run my Vrs TSi on it (11 plate )

The fuel flap sticker on mine says 95, and that's all I've ever put in it.

Only ever run mine on Shell V power (98-100Ron) or 98 Premium when abroad BUT im sure, as stated above, that the engine is designed to take 95Ron as standard. :)

I have had my 1.8 TSI for about 10 months now and done (a lowly) 6000 miles on an exclusively regular 95 RON unleaded diet. I have had no problems at all and performance seems pretty good for a bulky 4 WD car. Average fuel consumption has been between 30 and 35 mpg depending on use.

Same engine here aswell. 95 RON all the time. 8000 miles in 11 months. Mainly very short trips and a 2000 mile trip around France. No problems. Plenty of grunt and very quiet. Display average from new only showing 28mpg.
