Epic Waxathon - 2 days and still not finished

Featured Replies

So glad we have had good weather this weekend. The new Blackline diesel bitch was looking very dirty and not in a good way.

So first thing Saterday morning out came the old cleaning kit and my latest purchase Collinite 845 as kindly recomended by a few forum members. Both cars got the following treatment.

1. Prep work hose down get most of the crap off.

2. Wash with autoglym (Green) shampoo

3. Wash with Guardx shampoo & conditioner

4. Use Guardz Conserver rain repelent

5. Clean windows with Guardx glass cleaner

Went to bed.

6. Got up washed off all the frost ice that had formed overnight using AG shampoo.

7. Prewax Polish with Autoglym Super Resin Polish (Twice)

8. Polish windows with Autoglym Glass Polish

9. Wax with Collinite 845 (twice) including alloy wheels.

Im knackered but im hoping that will protect the paint and make the next couple of washes easier.

Things left to do

Treat all rubber trim with AG bumper care.

Treat Tyres with Tyre dressing.

Interiors of both with Leather care and Cockpit shine.

Im so far very happy with the results

Bagsy mine next!!

Yeah every one on the street has asked me to do theirs and i not even finished mine yet. I don't enjoy doing it its a necessary evil. However i do enjoy how good it looks after. Well until some plank puts a ding in the door in a car park or the local pigeons release their bowls all over it. :@ . Thats why i took some pictures so i can remember how good it used to look lol.

About 1 hour while i did the other car and then went back to it noticed the second aplication it was more dificult to wipe off so i guess i put a bit to much on. will know for next time though. By the way ChrisRS thanks for the recomendation it was very easy to use for a noob. Hopefully it should last a while.

No problem with the recommendation

I love it!

I asked how long because the previous coat needs time to cure..The second coat was harder to apply and buff because, more than likely, it was removing the uncured previous coat

24 hours is best next time

Yeah i would have done normally but with the weather i thought an overnight frost might have caused a problem and was just eager to get it finished, you only have about a 4 hour operating window so had to get it done today. I tested the sheeting an water repelent qualities and very impressed.

What do you remove the haze with after applying the wax? I used a microfibre cloth but it seamed to get really solid with wax after a while and you can't just shake it like you can with the polish dust. i used linear motion when polishing to avoid swirls

Golden rule with any wax is ...as thin as possible

You probably applied too much

Use agood quality thick pile MF cloth to buff off

If its hard to buff..youve applied too much + leave it to a haze no longer than 15 mins

I'm knackered just reading all that. Spending an entire weekend on car care is real commitment. Well done!

I was in the same boat myself having just done a 1200 mile round trip in the last week. Wasn't half as bad as your session though, only 3 hours for the one. Happy with the results though. Will try uploading pics in a bit.

I used autoglym Hi-dev wax on mine but would be interested to hear anyone who's used both Hi-dev and Collinite845 and how they compare

Is that your neighbours vrs in the background?

Sounds a good treatment, started mines sarurday but the rain came >:( stupid country

Rich git! Congrats on choosing the best and 3rd best colours of VRS  Looks a good job on the paintwork well done. Any thoughts on colour coding the chrome grill surround? I used to look at mine in some lights and angles I liked it in some I loathed it! Once colour coded I love it from all angles.

Well ive had 3 now. I had a silver MK1 loved it. so we swapped it for the Red VRS MK2 when that came out and the blackline was too good a deal to pass up on so i got that. I was thinking of buying an Audi A5 but it was gonna cost way to much. My wife drives the blackline mainly though an i use the Red Petrol VRS as i do less miles. But surely two cars is not an insane prospect i'd have ten if i could fit em on the drive.

Rich git!

I wish, skoda's are great cars and i aint a badge snob but i would be driving audi's if i were rich.

nah will keep it standard kind of defeats the point of limited edition otherwise.

Would look good on the red one though. Although my days of modifying cars are long gone. I used to modify cars when i was younger brakes engines the lot but got two kids now and they want lots of things which means i dont have the time or money. Plus i have learned that Car designers generally do a Good job.

Must admit the colour coded grill looks brilliant. Was it easy to do? Is it not prone to getting stone chipped as I find the rest of the paintwork bad for this?

Sorry to hijack the thread!

So now its waxed up and protected do i wash it next week with AG Shampoo or will this just removed the wax?

Im so sad I love it how when you spray water at it the droplets are like little ball bearings fighting to get off the paint work and

it all just disapears without a trace. Love wax!!! can't beleive i never bothered with it until now.

No.Car shampoos are pH neutral..they are designed this way NOT to remove your LSP

I wash mine sometimes 3 times a week without removing any wax

Yep, what chris said, as long as u use a good shampoo to wash the car like the ag your going to itl be ph neutral and wont strip the wax :) freshy waxed cars are lovely when the rain starts lol i LOVE beading :p also, get a good glass sealant and apply it to the windscreen if you are impressed with the bodywork, the water just shoots off the glass haha brilliant to watch, and passengers are always well impressed!
