I am always one for cursing traffic, so which way do I go. Calais, then the E40, round the Brussells ring road, then Liege, exiting the E40 towards Eupen before picking up the B258 that goes all the way to the ring, basically the directions on Ben Lovejoys website www.nurburgring.org.uk. The website is also good for other ring related info

This coming weekend I am taking the Ford Mondeo as there are 3 of us going, and yes it will be going on track if only to see how bad the handling is. Will be even worse because its an auto, but anything for a laugh. For a once only experience for my guests I have booked into the 4* Dorint hotel on the GP start/finish straight.

Just to make this current and update the list.

Mike, you have nothing to fear. I'll post some info when I get back on Tuesday.

Anyone going over before this trip?

i'm going over on the 5th-8th August aswell now.

You must have a HUGE wallet if you want to go that way.

I'm not involved in the planning of this in any way' date=' but would have thought that dover - calais then across the corridor into belgium, up past antwerp and over into germany. I say past antwerp, the other way is through brussels, but the brussels ring can be worse than the m25, time dependant of course.[/quote']

How will that be more expensive then driving to the other end of the country and through the 5hit hole known as france.

I can be on a ferry from Newcastle in 30min and be in Hull in 50 (Travelling slightly above the speed limit :D )

Maybe I'm being thick and not knowing my geography very well.........

Probably me being thick, I just thought that it was a particularly expensive boat to go on.

You would only be in France for 20 mins, which is arguably 20 mins too long.

Your saying this to the man who c*ap himself coz he didn't realise it was his own reflexion in the window the other day! :o

Well I have just got back from the ring. The weather was very very hot, and as usual I got sunburnt.

Met up with Carsten who is going to help me out with the organisation. What he is going to do is phone around some B&Bs / Hotels and get some info on group discounts. So what I really need now is a list of who is DEFINATELY coming rather than the maybe's and also how many people you will be bringing and room requirements.

Here is the list, please update with your requirements. If you are unsure if you are coming at this stage please for the moment can you state that.

We may be able to come up with various options. eg. B&B or Hotel but it would be better if we could all be in one place or at least close together in the town so no one has to drive anywhere in the evening.

Any idea of a rough cost for accommodation and ferry/tunnel crossings

Any idea of a rough cost for accommodation and ferry/tunnel crossings

Ok very rough prices for the moment.

B&B single room is usually around the

anyone have problems with lowered octy's and the ferry?

  • Author

Didnt have problems with mine, just take it easy on ramp to/from the ferry deck. I found it helps to take the last bit at an angle. Also once on the ferry if they try and send you onto the mezzenine car deck, just point to the lowered suspension and poor ground clearance and they will put you elsewhere on the main deck.

Manny, how much are the "ring" passes again?

Will be sitting down this weekend and going through the costs. I will confirm next week if that's ok?

Darn you briskoda you cost me too much money

Go on the Eurotunnel and follow the signs for high vehicles and motorbikes, you get on the large carriages then with loads of room.

Lap ticket prices from the main nurburgring website (cars)

1 Lap ticket -

looked at the tunnel but it costs 50 quid more!

Sorry if its a silly question, but lets say i bought a 24 lap pass. If i was giving it some, i would need fuel after about 15. Do you have to do the laps all at once or can you leave, refuel, and finish them off the next day for instance?

With the 24 IIRC you can use it over the remainder of the calendar year. Pah, do 24 in a day me, but then I had a years pass :D

Oh and I only get 11 mpg there Shifty, so refuel every 8-10 laps - trust me you do not want to run out - 15 laps and you'll be on fumes :D

after each lap you have to come off and put your ticket in the barrier, you'd be insane to do them all one after the other! Doing 2 in a row is enough!

The ticket is valid for the year I believe.

Pah, do 24 in a day me,
