Colin, look forward to seeing you over there. Maybe you can help drum up some interest in the other thread by adding you name to the list.

With who and at what time are some of you going over. Only reason I ask is I've never driven in europe before and I'm scared I may get very lost lol

Hi Guys, i booked in at http://www.pension-zimmer.de/

Mike, there is an easy route to the ring.

Leave the hoverport, the head towards Dunkirk. Stay on the E40, till you get to brussels then head towards Luik (Leige), then exit at J38 Eupen and take the B258 all the way to the ring. Look at the directions on www.nurburgring.org.uk they are the ones I follow although its ok most of the time the Brussels ring road can be a bit of challenge.

and make sure you've got a 100 euro's on you as everyone gets caught speeding on the b258!

True, same can be said about the belgian section of the E40 with hidden mobile cameras. On the spot fines are the order of the day for foreign nationals in France and Belgium. When following the directions on the site I linked to you will pass through 3 fixed german speed cameras, there presence is not signed and they are all forward facing and grey in colour and use induction loops in the road.

Yep saw those the other day, going into 50Km/h zones as you drive on the A258.

can always take your front number plate off!!!!

"Opps it must have fallen off, sorry officer"

what happens if u get caught speeding on the fixed camera?

Get the tow rope out?

If I recall some euro countries have an arrangement with the dvla now to transfer points, although I understand it's only for stupid cases, like 100 in a 30.

I think it might be inplace for ireland aswell, nothing stopping you popping over the border and have ing a blat with no points risk.

then again the german police carry sidearms, aswell as big forearms...I'd pay.

I did get flashed by one of the german cameras on my 1st trip, didnt here a thing, but I know where they are now. One thing though, the unduction loops are on your side of the road so it is possible to get round the camera undetected by moving to the otherside of the road, assuming nothing is coming the other way. Seen the locals do this, so it must be ok.

They are sited in towns, and one on the return trip when coming home close to the Belgian border will be in an active 20kmh limit outside a school. Thats the one that caught me the 1st time.

Other than that dont be stupid and things should be ok, I usually travel with the cruise set to around 80ish although some go fasterl

Does anyone know how far it is from dover to the ring (or other port)?

Just need to work out if I should get it serviced before I go over or not

Just under 300 miles.

Just for the smokers among us, a trip to Luxembourg on the way home will be worthwhile to purchase your personal allowance. There are two service stations, one at each end of the country, or for the more adventurous, a tobacconist will be cheaper still. They will take sterling too, and you wont pay commision on a credit/debit card by paying cash.

Just thought it might be worth mentioning.

Cheers shift, I'll do the 30k when I get back then :D
