  • Right, after my annoyance at the organisers' letting us out at Combe, and wishing to at least have a truly 100% brisky session along with a smidge of tracktime desire, I'm up for this. Won't be a work

  • We've had the practice times, we've had the hot lap times, now we have possibly the most important table of all (for obvious reasons), the improvement between practice and hot lap times 01. +5.317 -

  • I need something to cheer me up Just to bring this to the front as it's several pages back... 1. BossFox - Booked In 2. CRAIGROBBO - Booked In 3. PastyBoy - Booked In 4. M12MKD - Booked In 5.

Drifting is not allowed BTW.

I drove my Yeti to within an inch of it's life and did melt the tyres a little, but the ridges wore off driving home an they were fine again.

Unless you've got a serious toy I don't see the point of track tyres.

It's just a hassle changing them over and sliding all over the place when it rains.

You haven't taken account of Jabo Schumacher, and his unfeasibly hot oil temperatures :)

HA ha ha - I am Captain Slow with cornering problem ;)

I am staying behind Jabo as he will be looking at the maxi dot!

On a serious note, I have 5 litres of synthetic 5/30 so we will bo ok Jabo ;-)

I'm about to change my 'summer tyres' and will have a set of Ultrac Sessantas in 225/45 18 with 3.5 - 4mm of even tread available for a small fee (buyer collect).

I ruined myroad tyres last time... Sidewalls got destroyed..

Sidewalls? As my first track day was in the wet, I haven't seen any tyre degradation.

I will be fitting the wheels off the Golf again as these are well worn anyway, I will also have the Yellow stuff pads on too.

Were you rolling onto the sidewalls under heavy cornering?

Suggests either under inflated or trying too hard.

Lol, yes, keeping tabs on fuel consumption and oil temps :D.

Earlier in the week I picked up a parcel containing 8 1ltr bottles of fresh Castrol Edge Professional Long Life III 5-W30 for a meagre £85 delivered.

Original filter turned up today from VWSpares.

I can share some oil too :).

One thing I discovered recently is that at speeds approaching 140mph front goes very light and nervous.

What is the max speed at Bedford again? ;)

Never hear about side walls being ruined on a track. They would have to be severely under inflated to have them damaged by the rims. Other option is ruined suspension bouncing up and down while cornering making the wheel jump up and down chewing up the side walls. As usual there might have been something totally different :)

It was the corner between the sidewall and the tread of the tyre on the edge. I tend to push hard. They weren't under inflated, just a zealous driver..

What tyre size were they?

205/50/16 i think... Not 100% sure. Normal fab vrs size :)

That sounds like the shoulders rather than the sidewalls.

They will indeed be the first bits to go

This was Jason's tyre after out hullavington trackday way back when.

This looks to me like underinflated tyre wear as, if I can see correctly form the photo, the tyre is worn much more on both edges with the edge closer to the camera worn significantly more indicating towards bad tracking me thinks? Unless the tyre was a front one on the left, driven on a clockwise track. Missing shoulder would be a clue here :D.

Yeah this with the addition of 300bhp and a looooong day on track on the hottest day of that summer.

That is why most people think there is something wrong with F1 or BTCC cars when they look at the way wheels are set up - they seem to be "all wonky" :D. Proper camber setup for the track would prevent that. I suppose not many people change the susp setup when they go for a track day.

Also, on the state of that tyre, it looks much better than than some tyres I've seen around here in a sense that it has not "disintegrated" i.e. chunks of it are not missing. Or has it passed that stage already? :D

I'll post this again as it's already been buried by two pages of tyre discussion.
