inner cv boot

Hi had a go on changing the clutch today went well until i realised i forgot the spline set for the drive shaft.

my question is while i was under the car i saw that the inne joint boots, on either side didnt have seal clip on the thin rubber end is this normal??

On the offside the grease had come out and sprayed the heat shield behind the engine.

wondered if this has anything to do with the clonking noise when going over small bumps and pot holes straight not turning.
