Yes, the rest of the engine was built to ensure it can do 550-600bhp all day long.

So in hindsight we over engineered it a bit and didn't need to modify it as much.

oh well...

  • Right.   I gave myself a good talking to and popped out for a little bonding with the new car.   Holy moley it's even more bonkers than I remember the last ones being. Yes, they have worked a lot

At least you don't have to worry about it being a weak point at all when taking to a race circuit

Better to have a solid over engineered engine, than one that breaks every time you put pressure on it.

And you could still improve it afterwards.

429 bhp and 360 lb/ft.

Should be 450-480 but I think it's down a little becaue I've had the exhaust changed and the map hasn't been tweaked to suit.

Also the AMD RR which had a reputation for overreading seems to be very realistic now, possibly even a little cautious which is actually better than giving out optimistic info.

Must have been 25+ cars there today and they were all getting exactly what was expected or a little under.  Mine made a bit less than I expected.

The full line up of pictures from the GTROC meet today.

We did really well with the weather, location and food quality at a nice little country pub local to where I live.

What an engine bay looks like on a car that's had £200k spent on it! :o

Love the fire!!

I also love how an open bonnet at car meets is like a magnet :D

Yes, it was an investment banker's toy in Japan and was bought by the guy who imports cars to stop it getting broken for bits.

The amount of bits on it is amazing.

We had the R35s, an R34, R33, R32s and both generations of Stagea too, series 1 and a 2.

Last time it was all R35s and two R32s.

Great, brilliant to see a nice collection :)

Well, back to the garage with the Skyline.

I thought the power was a bit low at the AMD RR day on Sunday, before that I just thought I was getting used to the performance.

So I've got a second opinion from the R32 specialist I use and they say it's slower than it was, so it has a suspected boost leak...

They think it should be making 480-500bhp.

maybe when they fitted the uprgraded FMIC?

  • Author

Unlikely, that was before the track day.

Could be any number of things, spec has not changed since it made 480.

  • 2 weeks later...

It's the old exhaust restricing it.

Looks like I need a bit more noise to get more power.

So plan is to put the newer system with the daft big tailpipe on, but cut that off and weld on a more sensible diameter tailpipe.

Fingers crossed that should see us up around 480bhp again.

Can't be building the car to take big bhp due to wanting around 500, then be running around 400.

Yeah, the exit makes no difference to power and precious little to noise as long as it's at least equal to the back box exit CSA.

That r34 is epic. No plans to purchase one of those? My favourite :)

Nice as it is I specifically went for the R32 as it's smaller, lighter (track day fun) and I prefer the looks as the rear of the R34 with it's big spoiler isn't really my kind of thing.

Today a plan has been hatched to move the Skyline on a bit.

Partly because the Yeti will soon be faster round Brands Hatch than a Skyline GT-R, which just isn't right. :D

So we are moving up a size in turbos, which should take the 450-480bhp to around 520-550bhp.

Also adding billet wheels to reduce lag a little, resulting in them not being very different in lag to the ones I have now, so still good for track days and not too top-endy.

Turbos arrive tomorrow, which are then being sent to be tweaked a little.
