May be a daft question but would the R34 6 speed box be a straight swap?

  • Right.   I gave myself a good talking to and popped out for a little bonding with the new car.   Holy moley it's even more bonkers than I remember the last ones being. Yes, they have worked a lot

Quite a good question actually.  I asked the same. :)

It can be done, but the R34 has different diff ratios matched to the gearbox.

So you need to change those too.

I've been advised to keep the 5 speed though and put better ratios in as that costs the same as an R34 swap and also gives me a stronger box.

Will you be getting it done over the winter down time so to speak? Same time as the Yeti?

I'm hoping to have it done for the Briskoda day at Brands hatch in five weeks.

I needed a new pair of pants after I went for a quick spin the the GT-R. Got home rather fast to do so! Words can not describe how that car went. The swearing filter would be working overtime if I attempted to describe it!

You definitely need a passenger ride at Brands Hatch. :D

Hope it's dry...

LOL think we all want that Richard! :)

Please form a orderly queue!

I might buy an orange cone, a high vis jacket and a bucket and stand by the car collecting for Richards car fund ;)

The extra work on the R32 has been put off.

Two or three weeks to get the parts is going to rule out the Essex RR day and probably make the job over run causing the car to miss Brands Hatch on the 3rd November too.

So I'm holding fire until 4th November when it'll go in and the parts will be waiting.

Very nice Richard.... extra vroom vroom for next year and time :D

Looking forward to seeing the effects of a 2.8 kit on the car.

More torque and power over the rev range, but it'll also spool the turbos better giving less lag and more top end power.

If we lower when maximum boost is achieved by 500rpm it will increase the usable powerband by 25%, as it's mainly 5k - 7k now.

Will transform it when pressing on and on track.

Watch out R35s. ;). :D

Ooh, more useable power :) sounds brilliant. Can't wait for a passenger ride to see the difference

Yes, starting to think it's silly to move the Yeti to the next stage Charlie.

Skyline will be well sorted by the end of January ready for 2015...

Citigogo should be a few months behind that, fingers crossed...

Finally coming together for you :)

The Yeti's already bonkers enough in my opinion and is well balanced, so I can see your point :)

agree'd, much like the Fez ST if you give it any more you risk making it worse on track.

  • 2 weeks later...

This looks pretty awesome

I'm sure I've seen a build thread for that! More work yet it was still shorter than mine :(

I started a thread in January about this vehicle, which a Qashqai+2 (correct wheelbase) with the floorpan cut out mounted on a GT-R floorpan and running gear, tuned by the guys that built it and specialise in the GT-R.

Yours for £250,000 and a fresh mortgage everytime it breaks.

Which it will as it's running 1,000bhp and from what I've seen any GT-R with over 650bhp gets the odd issue from time to time, if used hard.

The people that made it are currently building a new workshop with something like twelve ramps.

Business must be good. :)

Business is very good I think, they are based around the corner from me and about to move into a much larger premises.

The Qashqai itself was behind me at some traffic lights a couple of weeks back. Sounded beautiful as it overtook.

I'd guess the profit margins on R35 work is high.

Compare a stainless exhaust.

R32/33/34 = £650.

R35 = £2,000.

Big Brake Kit.

R32/33/34 = £3,500.

R35 = £7,500.

Alloy wheels.

R32/33/34 = £250+

R35 = £1,000+

It seems that the R35 market will tolerate far higher prices.

And business doesn't work on a set margin, you charge what the going rate is and what you can get away with.

Both of the large R35 tuners (Litchfield and SVM) are currently moving into far bigger premises with a huge amount of additional equipment.

On my R32 I had a complete engine rebuild, new turbos, chassis bracing, exhaust, tyres etc... for less than the cost of similar brake upgrade, remap, exhaust and a set of tyres on the R35.

Jesus. Seems like they're certainly in the right business. They've just teamed up with Cannon performance too who I think do similar work, just not as GT-R orientated.
