  • Right.   I gave myself a good talking to and popped out for a little bonding with the new car.   Holy moley it's even more bonkers than I remember the last ones being. Yes, they have worked a lot

There are some Skylines in Time Attack as they are not too bad for a 4WD twin turbo at under 1,500kg stock.

It's the newer R35 version that's the big fattie at 1,800kg.

Admittedly they always struggle against well set up Evos though.  Stripped out those can get down to a lower weight.

The Skyline is popular for drifting, but they remove the front wheel drive, or just start with a lower spec RWD version.

Drifting is not really my thing though.

I thought an all steel R32 to R34 GTR was more like 1600kg as stock?

Agreed that you'll never get one as light as you can an Evo or an Impreza though.

Oh and I don't get drifting either (yes I did mean the "sport", not smokeless power slides when basically driving grip).

They are actually smaller than people think and due to being a bit old without all the safety legislation ballast are lighter than a modern car of the same size.

The quoted kerb weight is 1,430kg.  The R33 is a bit heavier and the R34 heavier still.

For a 2.6l straight six with two turbos and four wheel drive it's not that much.

I should weigh mine really...

I take it as you said collected and inspected you have purchased it.

I know the owner quite well, he's letting me have it for a week to check it over before we talk money. :)

I'm picking it up on Saturday...

Ah, I added a bit on the assumption that Japanese cars are usually weighed dry rather than ready to go kerb weight including driver and fuel.

As for size, an R32 shell will fit over a 911 (well maybe not the rear arches on a 930 Turbo, but an R32 GTR front goes over the fronts on a 935/76).

Well there u go Mr sox fox :)

Im all caught up

R35s all gone

R32 awesome 530bhp fun beastie

Its really cool mate :)

Not read that much since my exams

Any idea who this is?

Probably easier for anyone to read this thread on GTROC than repeat it here...

http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/304793-r35-bedford-parody.html

Gets quite interesting from page 3+

Basically the GT-R driver posted a vid of his driving on YouTube.

A thread was started on Pistonheads, someone found the video before he got criticised and decided to delete it and downloaded a copy to make the one with comments.

Yes, I have since become aware of who it is, although I don't know him personally and they are not apparently a GTROC member.

A 2009/10 GT-R in white with the 2014 facelift parts grafted on, a carbon bonnet and spoiler is quite destinctive

No one cares how big your mate is, he drives like a *****! My first track day I kept both hands on the wheel and respected others!

Made me laugh much more than it should've :)

The GTR register/ forum is a bit more relaxed in it's moderation.

Now that was a good laugh / read. Made the first hour in the office go quickly.

The driving is terrible, I am a track day novice so I cannot comment too much but it's clear to see you cannot be too aggressive and effectively just out brake people into the corner and then force them to avoid crashing into you. Its not go-karting.

I don't understand the whole jealousy thing; I would love to own a GTR, but to be envious of someone else's success in being able to buy a car of that quality and performance will get you nowhere. Just relax and enjoy watching other people batter them around a track!

If the Kebab lover was driving a normal hot hatch or sports car there probably wouldn't be the same response / outrage. But the video does outline the fact that the GTR, even in the hands of an idiot, just blows pretty much everything else on track away. it raises a question as to whether cars with hyper performance should be allowed on track with the majority of cars that take part in track days? Maybe MSV need to consider having track days for different 'classes' of cars? Hot hatches, sports, race?

I know for a fact I would feel uncomfortable being on track in my little Furby with a modest 210(ish) BHP surrounded by 650bhp+ Japanese monsters screaming past. I would be spending too much time looking in my mirrors not wanting to hold up a car with twice the performance (and then some) compared with me.

The GTR register/ forum is a bit more relaxed in it's moderation.

Quite a comical read :D

I'd have an R32 in a heartbeat but that vid puts me off owning an R35 if a ham-fisted muppet like that can get it round

It does make you wonder why the marshals didn't stop him from driving like that. Part of what you pay for on a track day is a safe (as can be) environment and they weren't doing their job.

Yes, it's being discussed on the GTR forum thread linked to.

This video has hit just about every performance car forum out there, it makes MSV looks quite bad.

Arrival of red R32 GT-R number 2 for health check...

RbVF9L.jpg

Will be giving the car a good going over this week to see if it's viable.

The most obvious issue so far.

WCby5u.jpg

It's an exercise in weighing up how much bodywork/structural work is needed against the nice bits fitted as last time it went on a RR it made around 600bhp.

While it would be easier to buy another clean import they are more money and lower spec.

Plus they are getting rarer and a shame to knacker a well loved clean rot free car pretending to be a 1990's JTCC driver. :D

Are the panels the same as on more ordinary versions?

No, arches are all bespoke GT-R flared items and no official repair panels apparently...

So custom repair job then :(

in the words of "regular car reviews"

Track Car bro!

Well is it more fun to drive spiritedly than your own GTR32? If so then restore and use that as your track toy and fun day out car. If not then no need to worry. You can always swop bits over to whatever is the better car in your mind. I'd agree on the rarity on these saw a nice one the other day for sale and was like.. if only LOL.

Got a few tin worms Richard, if it is just panels then it should be an easy fix.

just read through the stuff from Bedford, seems like an eventful day!  The video is hilarious and shows poor etiquette on track
