Octavia Elegance 1.6TDI Amundsen Sat nav

Featured Replies

Collected from the Skoda dealer today 29 Nov 2013.

I am absolutely delighted with the new Skoda which I collected today, after a 5 month wait for delivery, just one niggle the vehicle has as standard an Amundesen Infotainment Navigation system, however Skoda allegedly are unable to supply the maps or the SD card due to demand for the new MKIII, in order for it to function. I was told there is a backlog of 1 million SD cards required? how odd is that!!

I made a comment to the dealer and mentioned that in the meantime Skoda are advising me to get lost until such time as they can provide the maps on a SD Card!!

Question1:  Is there a shortage of SD cards?

Question 2: are they of a specific manufacture? (I doubt it)

Question 3: should I download the maps required and install then onto any high speed SD card?

Skoda cannot advise me when I will have receipt of the aforementioned data or card!

A bit of a poor show as I had specifically purchased the Elegance Model for this and other creature comforts!

Apart from this little niggle I am delighted to have yet another Octavia

Can anyone comment on this?

Oh brilliant. Ive got an elegance Octy coming shortly. Purchased one that had been pre built and waiting at Emden. Ordered it couple of days back and should be with me by Xmas. Id better not have the same problem. Basically you have been supplied a car that is not as advertised (could you claim it isnt fit for purpose as you cant use everything you should be able to?)

Id be wanting a little sweetener. More money off?

My dealer said that the SD cards were being stolen at the ports, so Skoda have changed the process. The dealer now has to order the SD card and it is sent directly to them. I upgraded to the Columbus, so I don't know about any delays in getting them.

Interesting. I took delivery of mine on 5 Oct and it didn't have the card. The dealer had to order one which came in retail packaging. Took another 2 weeks.

I've not looked at my sd card, but would it be possible to use any sd card and and get the software off another user or off Skodas website?

The SD card supplied is a unique size which is what the system looks for when authenticating the card. Can't remember what size it is but you can't buy the same size card in shops (think 96mb or something like that)

If you install the downloadable maps on another card the system won't recognise it.

No other option other than wait for the skoda card.

God this sounds pretty backwards....is it a backhand attempt to get people reading these sorts of forums to order the more expensive nav option, doubt it but you cant help but wonder....creative marketing and sales!

My Amundsen + in my MK2 came with all the nav stuff pre-installed, the unit has 4gb in built storage and the SD card is used just to update the maps and firmware, v surprised Skoda did not continue the theme, 2 SD slots for music alone wouldnt be too shabby would it?!

I would be really interested in any other experiences on this. My Elegence is being built next week. I am wondering if it is worth raising with the dealer now in preparation.

It is a unique size SD card.  From memory i think it's 7.6GB

Only Skoda SD cards will work  ( I have tried others including formatting to the same size and checking all files are there).

You would think that if the dealers are aware, they would order the SD card at the time of putting the car order in. That way when cars turn up they have SD cards in stock instead of having to order when cars turn up.

Might just be worth mentioning that to the dealer.

Mine came with the card already ordered by the dealer.  I was led to believe the card also has the chasse number on it that the Navigation system looks for.

It would be interesting to swap two cards over between cars and see what happened.

There is no chassis number on the card.

When you download new files from the internet you wipe everything off the card.  There are no hidden files.

i have tried making a duplicate onto a non Skoda SD card, file number and size match perfectly but it won't recognise anything other than a genuine Skoda card for navigation data.

Sheldon.Cooper did you use windows to copy the card ? How many files did it show ?

Interesting? Have you tried a direct block for block clone of the card?

Some on the internets think the unit is locked to the SD card's unique serial number.

Certainly a block copy doesn't work - tried that yesterday.

I've just had a good look at mine and no hidden files or partitions. Comparing capacity between one of my 8G SD Sandisk cards and the Skoda one the Skoda capacity is just a little bit bigger.

This looks more likely and could be confirmed using two genuine SD cards and swapping them between cars.

Edit that would make sense and the sale man got the info wrong, not the Sat nav that is linked to the car chasse the car is linked to the SD card. - VCDS maybe a solution

My dealer had to order the sd card as when I collected car it wasn't in car,it arrived in a week !

Checked the sd card in dos . there are two hidden file listed. Did a clone copy in linux. All files present but still did not load in car. Anyone here got a mac

Did a DD copy on OSX and didn't work.

The card was slightly bigger than my 8gb card so had to use my 32gb - didn't work.

I picked my vrs with sat nav up last week, and it came with the card. The dealer did say that the card does come separately though and they 'fit it' when it arrives. Perhaps the dealer just forgot to order it....

Does sound like a right pain trying to use a different card though, so probably just worth applying pressure or seeing if any of their demo cars have one that you could borrow until they sort you out.
