Monte Tech - tsi or not tsi - that is the question (mostly!)

Featured Replies

I have just completed the first 18 months ownership on a Monte carlo 1.2 TSI 105, having gone from a 2006 vRS.

Mine is Red with the black roof.  The 1.2 TSI is a superb engine, and only really miss the extra ponies from the old oil burner on longer motorway trips.  That said recently been to Manchester and back from the West Country  (or at least North Somerset) and the engine is more than capable of crusing along well above the speed limit without excess noise or limitations.  Keep it around the 70mph mark and will easily hit mid to high 40's .  Drive it like a nun and perhaps 50mpg can be achieved.

I have done 15K miles in mine from new, never missed a beat, zero oil consumption, and people still comment on what a nice looking car it is.  In 18 months time i will have a decision to make but VW do the 1.4TSI engine which puts out 120 bhp.  Now i wish they would put that in the fabia one day !!

I really really wanted a red one :p  But left it too late and couldn't find a good one in time.  Stumbled across these white diesels by chance and after much deliberation re dpf decided to go for it.

Dealer reiterated today I should'nt have a problem.  It's very tight obviously but being tired I had to watch my speed - couple of times exceeded the posted limit 'a little' :cough: very easily.
