December orders club! pull up a chair, we could be here a while

Recommended Posts

I've expressed my disappointment to both Skoda UK and my dealer in the last 24 hours. Both have been helpful and apologetic but it still leaves me with no build week some 12 weeks after order.

I began to look at plan B's today. Namely the Leon FR & Cupra (local dealer had a lovely cupra 280 in already) and the golf Gti/Gtd. All of these cars have some merits over the vRS but none can hold a candle to it as a complete package. If it was cost neutral I'd have a Gti in a heartbeat but the vRS is such a good complete package I can fully understand the demand.

So, my wait continues...

Well... I spoke with Skoda UK today. Lovely and polite, but no real help at all to be honest.

Car ordered in December, STILL no scheduled build week!!

its getting ridiculous now. 3 months and not even a vague idea when the car will be ready

exactly the same as with my order. They have no idea after 3 months. ? Unacceptable.

Both the Leon & the Golf are excellent BUT oh yes its a big but(no, not the kind you'll find on some of those specialist websites either) niether of them has much more than half the boot of an Octavia ! If its a company car, I can't see a Director going for less space to carry work stuff and missing the oppertunity of some lower lease costs on your old car in the mean time, "its suited you since you've had it lad & its thrupence ha'penny cheaper a month"

Sorry I know its not what you wanna here but, you might get more brownie points telling him rather than him telling you.

Same here guys - ordered mid Dec, had no build dates and no info from dealer, so rang SUK yesterday after seeing that others who ordered around my time have solid dates and was told mine isn't showing on the system and they have no idea when it will be built ! Come on SUK at least let me know how you allocate the dates as I don't get it !

Ewansdad when you ordered, SUK were giving out loaner cars for orders over 18 weeks waiting, I'd inform SUK that you were made aware of this, don't say told by the dealer but, imply it. See if that gets you a confirmed build date, I don't think it'll get you a loaner car but, it could well get you a BW.

Skoda UK also mentioned dealers quotas yesterday and suggested that they can only order "10 a month" but then wouldn't elaborate any further when I pressed for details as to whether quotas had affected my order.

Part of my 'difficulty' is I am getting a sizable military discount on the skoda (very nice thanks, so hence the speech marks) .  it means when comparing I have to consider this.  I do get the same hefty discount on seat, and on mazda though.  I've considered the mazda 6 very carefully and quite liked it.  in sport tourer petrol manual form it would cost very little more, comes with all the toys but isn't as spacious for leg and elbow room, has a harsh ride and no spare wheel (that bugs me as a lot of my time is on long journeys - I want a proper spare please).  I've ruled it out but do keep drifting back to it.

the seat, well hte st fr would be about the same cost once specced to be similar to the vrs, but is smaller and slower. hmm.  looks like I'm waiting for the vrs then.

My dec 24th order has no build week allocated on the system and my dealer can offer no explanation other than the system warns him of a "worldwide parts shortage" whenever he places a vRS order.

He's promised to dig deeper for me if nothing has changed after next weeks update.

I would begin to consider alternatives but I dont think there is a credible one. My PCP is £270 a month after a £500 deposit, nothing else seems to offer the combo of spec/size for that same money.

Hello All first post here,

Ordered my VRS estate in Candy white on the 1st Dec,

Pet protection pack

spare wheel

sat nav (can't remember which one!)

Still waiting for a bw, although the dealer emailed me two weeks ago saying it should be started today or tomorrow!! Shall contact him and let you all know as soon as I do.

I have a quick question, the above quoter said they put down £500 and paying £270 on PCP?? Which octavia have you bought, as I have put down £500 and with these options I am paying £340 a month over 42 months with 0%

Anyone else get a better deal??

I did, vRS hatch in white with approximately £1000 worth of options. 6% discount negotiated. £500 down with monthly payment of £270 a month.

Based on a 42 month agreement and an 8k mileage limit. The strong residuals on the TDi help the PCP cost considerably. I've since added the winter pack and expect that to add approximately £10 a month to the PCP

Thanks for the reply fewie,

My PCP is over 10,000 miles, can't see how that would make much of a difference, your extras will take it to around the same price as mine.

Going in today to speak to the dealer....

@ waiting, my discount was approx £1500, takes £35 a month of the PCP payments immediately. If you've ordered an estate they are 1k more than the hatch so that's another £25 a month saved. I'm also fairly sure the difference between 8k & 10k mileage allowance was another £15 a month saved.

I also refused to negotiate on things like lifeshine and gap insurance until the car actually arrives as I've had dealers stick this type of thing onto the monthly payment before without clearly telling me. In the unlikely event I take either product I'll pay cash rather than increase my monthly payment, even at 0%

Thanks Fewie,

Yes that all adds up, plus I got the tifeshine and gap insurance. Had both previously in the past on a BMW and in my opinion made a difference, although you can pick them up both cheaper afterwards but with a wife in tow who's pregnant, time was crucial and for convenience bought both!

GOOD NEWS........

My car has been confirmed as a week 12 build, the sale man was sure that was this week, so hopefully within a month I should have my new Octy! Ordered 1st December, production accepted on the 12th December. Looks like I've been one of the lucky ones.....

Sorry Fewie, am I understanding you correctly, doing 8k miles p.a. you brought a TDI ?

I am not sure of the price difference on the vRS but, how long will it be before you break even on fuel costs saved compared to difference in purchase price minus retained value difference. Dec-13 prices the diesel Elegance was gonna cost me a grand more than the petrol over 42 months including GFV differences & I couldn't save that much in fuel costs over 42 months, plus the diesel's don't start from 0 miles with really good effiency, they need to bed in.

Sorry I maybe way off track and you just like driving a diesel but, I thought I ask, your sums may just include things I didn't.

^^ Due to the extra depreciation you have to cover on the PCP the petrol vRS was going to work out a fair bit more per month. Combine that with likely fuel consumption of 35mpg vs 45 mpg for the diesel and the difference in RFL for the diesel then the monthly savings are more than you'd think. The diesel vRS is only £300 more than a petrol so there is no significant cost difference to have to regain.

^^the cost of running both was also compared to running my current RenaultSport clio, which returns 31mpg, costs £260 a year to tax and has a higher group insurance than either Octavia.

The petrol vRS would still be an improvement but no where near as much as the diesel.
