Featured Replies

Just to satisfy my curiosity, could anyone who has their New vRS post what tyres came fitted please :)

Tdi vrs estate. Continental sport contact 2

Seem ok. Although winters went on 1 week after.

VRS est TDI. Car set up screen on tyres shows winter tyres set up and has no option to change it?

I'm in Switzerland (where winter tyres are mandatory from Nov-Mar) and all cars are delivered from the factory only with summer tyres.

Conti sport contact 2, 225/40 18 92Y as quoted above.

Winter wheels/tyres are dealer fit so are not handled by Skoda themselves (expect for specifying "approved" wheel/tyre combinations).

Looks like a consistent pattern developing !

From looking at the ratings, not the quietest tyre, but otherwise how are people finding them ? ( although most of you look to have changed to winters for now).

I like them but they've been around for donkeys years, they were the factory fitted tyre on my 2006 Fabia vRS! They're expensive too and they're are better tyres around for less.

I did about 600 miles on them in a week before changing to winters.

As mentioned they're not particularly quiet but they seem to handle well in the dry, not sure about the wet.

Had to do an emergency stop from 30 for a plonker who let their dog run across the road on a long lead and the car stopped incredibly well. Both me and the owner were convinced it was bye bye pooch.

Overall I think I'll be happy enough with them when the good weather comes. Although with a new car how do you tell what's letting it down the car or the tyres.

Now you mention it I think I had the same tyres on my Mondeo ST TDCi.

I guess I'm what you'd call a bit of a grandad driver (mainly highway driving with cruise active) but I was happy with the wear on them & didnt really notice particularly bad road noise.

Although I guess like Gullyg mentions, I had nothing really to compare it with back-to-back.

I think I replaced them with Conti CS3s a couple fo times but cant say I remember any differences between the CS2 and CS3.

I'm no expert on tyres so I'm interested in peoples views but I'm thinking of fitting Goodyear efficient grip. I replaced the premium contact 2 on my Mondeo and they seem OK. The Mondeo isn't really the same sort of car as a vrs though, however after about 9k miles the good years seem fine. Supposedly quieter but not very noticeable, supposedly grippier in the wet but again not obvious, but do seem 5 to 10% more fuel efficient.

I'll be buying 2 new tyres as soon as the car arrives, one to fit the full size spare I have sourced and one to match, so need to decide soonish.

On a previous Octavia, I fitted Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics and they were absolutely superb, as I've said somewhere else in this forum, I'm thinking of buying a set for the vRS as I was so impressed with their road holding/grip in both wet & dry and their low road noise.

I had Conti Sport Contact 2's (SP2) on my Mk 5 Golf GT170 (eMotioned by Celtic Tuning to 211Bhp & 330lbs torque) & they were absolutely fab. I didn't often hang about while driving & I was never left wanting with SP2s.

When they were due for replacement I put Sport Contact 3's (SP3) on as I assumed they would be better being a newer tyre. Not so, they were grippy as hell in the dry, but pants in the wet compared to the SP2 & lasted only 2/3s the time, about 13,000 miles. The SP2's fronts lasted 18,000 & were very good.

When the SP3's needed replaced, I couldn't source SP2's again so went for a performance Bridgestone tyre. I was impressed from the first day, way better in the wet than the SP3's & virtually equal in the dry.

Now that I know the SP2's are on my new (very late & yet to be delivered TDi vRS) I am an even happier man. I'll have winters fitted in the winter as summers are pants in comparison, but my summers will be filled with joy with one of the best tyres I have had fitted to any of my many cars.

And on my 54 plate Fab vRS!

Just bumping up for a refresh.

Mine did indeed come with CS2's as did the bulk of others.

I am just wondering if this is still the case, or if my new one might be on something different ?

Got mine on Saturday and it came with Bridgestone Potenza's. Had these on a Mazda 6 and they were very good.

Picked my oil burning vrs up last week with Bridgestone potenza tyres

REO50's ?

I had these on my Alfa very good tyre, looking forward to see how the VRS behaves with them on.

Slightly off topic but ive just put some Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2's on the front of my 2.0 Elegance on the recommendation of my best mate (and v accomplished mechanic), being a good quality tyre at reasonable cost and so far Im a convert. Seemingly more grip than the original Dunlop Sport Maxx RT's and they seem a little quieter too.

Saved me a good 40-odd quid over another set of the Dunlops too so cant argue.

Bridgestone  Potenzas were fitted. I prefer Michelins as my race bikes run on Michelins.......  Mind, both have predictable and noticeable drop off in performance

REO50's ?

Bridgestone Potenza S001 on my TSI vRS.

Mine was supplied with CS2s last Sept. Dry grip is good, but road noise is poor on rough tarmac so will be changing to either the Goodyear F1 Asy 2 or Michelin PS3 soon.

That's my experience Johnnie41, add to that wet grip not terrible but not particulary good either.

Hopefully the new one will have better and quieter tyres, but If not they will have to wear out first, with my mileage that could take some time !

Picked my TSI RS up on Saturday and it has Bridgestone Potenza S001 fitted. With only just over 200kms driven I can't comment on their performance.

Tsi vrs, collected last June, with SC2s.  Serviced today after 7400 miles and tread depths, all equal across the width, FL 5mm, FR 6mm, RL 6mm, RR 6.5mm.  I guess roundabouts are causing the nearside wear.

I don't want to rotate front to back, I want to wear a pair first and replace (I have a pair of Goodyear efficient grip in readiness). But am I right in thinking swapping the 2 fronts over left to right would not be a good idea?  I'm thinking twist in the carcass on driven tyres, being forced to untwist and twist the other way, sometimes causes problems.
