New Golf R

Featured Replies

Going for a test drive of the r hatch on Friday. Interested in the estate. Some Tom included. Have contributed to my 2nd car thread. The r estate would replace our vrs rather than running 2 cars

Specced up on dtd it comes out £32k but that's without the tech pack bargain as it's not on dtd.

I think that's a great price. If it drives how I hope then an order will be placed

I recommend also taking a GT spec estate out for a test drive as this has the same -15mm ride height as the forthcoming R estate & will also give you an idea of the length etc of the car!

Also a GT estate is Very similar in terms of internal trim to the R...............only items which can't be spec'd up is R badges, steering wheel centre boss, look & colour of speedo & revs, & the seats have the alcantara on the side & cloth in the centre (GT has the opposite, but the same sports seats.).

I spec'd my GT to "R" & beyond.............2 zone climate, Dynaudio, reversing camera, winter pack, heated front screen, adv tel prep, 230v socket in boot, rear seat protection, bi-xenon/led drls, colour MFD, badge delete, metallic paint, 5yr warranty.............went a bit nuts...... :giggle:

  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

1/2 the BHP & 1/2 the number of driven wheels though, sometimes even half the number of Cylinders working with the 1.4TSI GT,

rather a different vehicle,  Golf GT Estate & Golf R Estate.

Chalk & Cheese really.

Err no **** Sherlock........ :dull: ..........go back & re-read my post I was referring to the interior so he can get a feel for the space & trim, seats, length, etc & ride height which is the same as the R estate.................R estate is N/A to view for a couple of months yet so looking an R hatch & a GT estate will give him a very good idea of the trim, space etc...........

Oh & my 1.4TSI does not have the ACT thank god...................you didn't know there are 3 versions of the 1.4TSI available in the Golf did you?

Sorry lost me now, there is little mystery in the size or interior of a Golf Estate, the interest is in how a Golf R Estate is i think.

Yes i do know what versions of the 1.4TSI there are in the Golf,

we discussed it in your Golf GT Estate thread.

Poster "solwood" is thinking about ordering an R estate & will be having a test drive of a R hatch......so I recommend he also drives a GT estate to get a feel for the length & ride height............................

Wunderbar.

As the poster I appreciate the suggestion of trying a car with useful similarities as well as a car with the power and drivetrain I would be purchasing.

Just to add drive a vrs

That's drive a vrs. Predictive text on a phone pah

Vrs Octavia estate that is.

Space is slightly less in the gold than mk2 Octavia

Saw an estate at the dealer. Strange space under boot floor.

Any ideas what it is for

That's upset the Octavia VRS lot now.................... :D

What golf or Octavia?

Golf with strange space and what looked like some kind if fitting with rubber ends

Dealer has no idea either.

Broadspeed, as George mentioned on the other thread

I saw there was a seperate thread now for the Estate version of the Golf R and I was amused. :D

Top work Keith.

All Golf estates have variable boot floor height & if fitted to the sill height position then you have to have three grey plastic side fill pieces, one down each side by the wheelarch cubbys, & the other across the boot about 1ft away from the seat backrest. The later in conjunction with one next to backrest makes a separate storage space with lock down rear part of boot floor. The then main space houses the spare wheel & the optional  dynaudio subwoofer rests inside the spare wheel which is face down in wheel well. You can store the roller blind type rear parcel cover in the slots under the boot floor in this main space.......this item is about 3ft long, tubular in shape with a ridged flap, & is black & has sprung loaded rubber end caps is this what you saw? If so the sales man is thick!

I'd recommend the reversing camera & Dynaudio

Oh & like vrskeith I'd like a manual............(glad I didn't wait & got my current car instead).

Another option but check comparative specs in detail to be more accurate.

Don't agree, it looks perfectly fine to me.

Take off your VAG tinted spectacles. :D

A choice, but there isn't a bad one, including the SEAT and the Golf in terms for styling for an estate car.

Ford have clearly done a better job in the quality of the images on the configure parts of the sites though.

Anyway, I thought this was a thread about people who have ordered a Golf R estate on Briskoda.

You miss understand me, I meant I cocked the computer transfer up - not Ford's Hatch to Estate, if that is your understanding of my comment above

Took off my Rose tinted glasses for a moment! Not totally biased.

Just like to make people aware of the very good VFM the base spec R Estate is against the competition.

If they have already ordered and are reading this to tell you the spec it's too late. ;)
