New Golf R

Featured Replies

Just had a call from my Service dealership ,as the R is booked in for it's 1st Service - Oil Change  9500 miles on Monday.

He pointed out that there was an "Enhancement Notice" on my Vin - relating to side skirts attachment. (Service Campaign / Recall- God only knows.)

Only an hour to sort ,provided parts available.

Has anyone else (member's) had similar request?

Can't find anything on other websites yet.

Strange one that. Maybe just more fixings?

Yeah, unfortunately the message was left on my answerphone ,so no chance to ask details.

Service is on Monday but he was not sure if parts would be available by then ,depending on numbers affected.

Perhaps 999Pooch will have some knowledge.

Saw that some time ago but mine appears solid, no flexing when cleaning  both the rear window surrounds and spoiler.

The message said "side skirts."

Will let you all know Monday aft/ evening.

999pooch,

Is yours a 5 dr?

Being optimistic, may be the mod will increase weight yes, but might just have better aerodynamics and improve the 0-62 by .0000001 sec and my ass won't shake to bits. Result - Simples!!

Very nice handsome motor!! Cheers.

Sounds like a Volkswagen

:)

IMHO the standard wheels are a bit of a letdown. They look too Korean!

IIRC the only(?) other optional wheels are very good though.

Don't mind them at all, plus the 18" are a better ride. imo

Just down to personal choice.

Each to our own.

Yip wheels are very much a personal thing

Only bit I don't like is the current trend for diamond cut wheels

I have a set of Octavia Mk3 alloys might try them on the R sometime. They look a bit S3 ,now that will confuse a few people.

Now do I buy VW centre caps or do I leave the Skoda ones in place ??

Would the warranty be null and void if I used the VAG PRODUCT? Note ! tyres on the Skoda wheels are the same size / spec as on my VW wheels - Continental 2. for 18" Rims.

If all fit dimensions ,retaining bolts etc. were the same as the R, for the Octavia  vRS  mk3, would VW use the excuse that the wheels were not designed for the same level of performance vehicle?

Or is there an EU / UK /GERMAN SPEC THAT SAYS OTHERWISE?

Does the R have a 9.5K service interval? or is it conditional based?

I own the car, so could have had Fixed or Variable Servicing. I'm "old school" engineer, so 10k is fine by me.

The PCP cars are contracted ,usually at 10000 apply (9500 alarm set service schedule)

Just visited the VW website before I take the car in for the service, under the section OWNERS, there is a " my Volkswagen Information", click on square "Check for Recalls" ,you can then enter your cars VIN for investigating .

However, it appears to only relate to "SAFTEY ISSUES" it does not highlight any "Enhancement /Service Campaign" infor.

As I say mine is an Enhancement.

As an engineer, you should be aware that these are a trade off against each other. It would have to be an extremely efficient aero improvement to improve acceleration.

Or like the fins at the back of the Toyota iQ, to keep the rear screen clearer.

Amazingly they did and it was noticeable in rain if they were not fitted.

I thought the intervals would be higher, but I guess VW play it safe with a reasonably highly stressed engine. Didn't those FQ Lancers have a crazy short interval, something like 4.5K?

Yes, the Lancers were 4,500 miles between services.

My original Scooby was a pretty short interval as I recall, can't remember exactly what it was, but 7.5K rings a bell. Funnily enough my 135 is conditional and seems to indicate over 18K at the moment, although I expect this to come down soon :)

The daft short service interval on the Lancers was one of the main reasons I bought a Subaru Turbo 2000 at the time (year 2000, buying 18 months old).

I think the Scoob was 7,500.  A big difference to the Lancer.

When Subaru lost the plot and starting bringing out the bland models (2001 IIRC) the interval jumped to around 10k I think.  But that wasn't enough to make me think about buying one of those odd looking things.
