Has anyone posted Thomas and his roadtest yet?  Sorry if a repeat,

but always worth a look at Thomas talking cars IMO.

  • For 23k I'd be in a Cayman.  Not a bleeding Polo.

  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

Well done Tom, How did it go?

I wonder what tweaks were done, other than the cosmetic- visuals .

I was expecting to see "JPS" in Gold down the side etc.

Can't think why?

Doh, i never even noticed it was a Golf or the registration number, i thought i was photographing a Honda.

That would be one way of improving it

(nb - maybe not a good idea to take the pee out of others when you can't take it yourself?)

I'm seeing at least one new Golf R every day which surprises me,. dosn't 33K buy anything better?

The PCP deals made it much cheaper than other £30k cars.

They were knocking them out for around £200 per month, which is similar to a special deal on an Octy VRS at the moment.

That's why they are so common.

I also see them quite often.

Howmany left shows it as very near 1,900 MK7 Golf R DSG

& 1,300 manual Golf R first registered in the UK in 2014.

Maybe they have doubled that in the first 6 months of 2015, no idea,

but it does mean there are double the Mk 7 Golf R in the UK in just the first 12 months than 4 years of production of the Mk5 Polo GTI.

(& More of them on the UK roads now than 4 1/2 years production of the Fabia MK2 vRS)

I hope there are enough about that bargains can be had when the lease cars are back in the trade in 2-3 years.

Here's a great picture or three, of the R with the Modesta BC04 treatment. It's extremely expensive stuff, but look fantastic:) The BC04 is a glass coating with the durability of the BC03 and some of the titanium particles from the BC05 to help the colour' pop'. In theory it last for a very long time too

'Titanium Dioxide.'  not titanium particles luckily.

?

What does this treatment cost?

The stuff is crazy expensive as I think Modesta limit the people who can actually purchase the stuff. and use it. I think the BC04 is £240. but this includes the base coat of BC01. Roughly speaking it's around £500+ for a full machine polish etc plus the Modesta treatment on top (I haven't read of any non-pro doing a Modesta detail yet). One downside is the coating has to be machined off if a panel needs a respray. BC03 costs a little less but doesn't have the glittery particles in it and the BC05 is super shiny with lots of particles. This makes it slightly less durable, but gives astonishing results.

There are currently approx.75 in VW DEALERSHIPS in the UK, on their website, used and or demo .No doubt part of your breakdown mentioned above George.

Tom,

More info :

What Bhp did it make? Comments suggest maybe 375bhp with stage 1 map and exhaust?

Thought it sounded very tame considering it has a 'zorst on and was filmed indoors!

Power is fine, I can live with that Tom, I'll just plug this into the Soundaktor

Ha someone must be mad

With weather getting warmer I have been having some country road blasts, it amazes me how biased the rear end can be when going round corners at speed. Feels weird in a hatchback lol. Still enjoying they car, I do sometimes drive it and think why did I buy it's soo boring, but this quickly changes to oh yes I made a brilliant choice, when I switch all safety esp etc off and put car in to sports mode and dsg in to manual.

....just saying...

You really know how to accessories your motor B33fy!

Didn't realize Boots were into car accessories these days, you could have been a little more adventurous with the colour combo imo.

Fantastic idea, I hope you pulled!

Is that the special you've been building????
