New Golf R

The daft short service interval on the Lancers was one of the main reasons I bought a Subaru Turbo 2000 at the time (year 2000, buying 18 months old).

I think the Scoob was 7,500. A big difference to the Lancer.

When Subaru lost the plot and starting bringing out the bland models (2001 IIRC) the interval jumped to around 10k I think. But that wasn't enough to make me think about buying one of those odd looking things.

Early RS6's were quite short too werent they? 5k springs to mind for some reason

I had an original 94/95 model. It had an Aluminium bonnet :) But the handling wasn't so good, lots of grip by the standards of the day, but proper old school 4x4 understeer when pushed. I replaced it with what was known as the 'High Torque' version which had much improved handling (mutterings said they had used similar suspension settings etc to the Prodrive version), much less lag and proper seats (although I don't think they could be zipped off :D ). Although I have owned six 4x4s, none of the fast ones were FWD with switchable 4x4 type systems. I have driven fast  Haldex cars now, but really need to live with one for a few weeks to see if I prefer them to a permanent 4x4.

The R seems to be the first of this relatively newer style of 4x4 to have cracked the FWD-4x4 power transfer thingie and I had high hopes the RS3 would pick up this baton and run with it. Perhaps the 400 will be the next torch bearer? Audi must be a little worried about their reputation, surely?

Just visited the VW website before I take the car in for the service, under the section OWNERS, there is a " my Volkswagen Information", click on square "Check for Recalls" ,you can then enter your cars VIN for investigating .

However, it appears to only relate to "SAFTEY ISSUES" it does not highlight any "Enhancement /Service Campaign" infor.

As I say mine is an Enhancement.

So just informed that the Enhancement is the removal of the rear window side spoiler and rebond with a stronger adhesive. Unfortunately the adhesive is not yet available. So that will mean another booking in.

However,oil change wasn't to painful @ £125.

I'm already on it but don't view that often. However, I knew about various owners mentioning it but mine seemed firm in place, as I hand wash around the area and have not noticed any movement.

As mentioned earlier the Service Dealership linked in with my 1st Service.

No planning ahead, working my nuts off, so as to get the funds for the R400 Only buying after a test drive of course.

Meanwhile, 30k in and nothing has fallen off the SEAT. Oh, wait, ****.

Nothing fallen off my R either.

That will change when you get the Alfa then

Once upon a time yes, but not anymore.

So he wants to fit a 'Tuning Box', which is undetectable while posting a Video on the World Wide Net.

So If that car has a Turbo Issue Volkswagen US will never be any the wiser. Result!

Sensible bit of driving, even if he's no threat to the current 'ring willy waving hot hatch manufacturers! I'd love to have a go, but I'm sure I'd be backwards into the armco....

Real world though, when not willy waving Promo! So makes it a more interesting view.

I edited my post, but yes indeed. I wouldn't be able to push it too hard, as it's my car, and I'd be serious trouble if I over cooked it. More worried about having an altercation with a motorcyclist.

The mk6 is the better looking car imo. Interior is nice, exhausts dont look tacky and the lights look better. Sorry, just saying it how it is, imo.

R32 engine was lovely. Been in a mk5. Best thing is the sound though isnt it haha.

George as I have said to you before , I do like the look of the offerings from this company :http://www.hgp-turbo.de/

Looks like a great deal for the Golf R DSG estate:

£1440 1st monthly installment then 23 monthly payments of £240.

£180 admin fee.

5k pa.

Total payable £7140 (don't think it's been cheaper than this in the past).

http://www.gateway2l...053_leasing.php

I never understand lease deals like that with such low mileage, unless it's for a weekend car, which is unlikely for a Golf R estate IMO

5k pa?

What use is that?

I drive a van in the week, car at the weekends and bike whenever its nice weather.

Car does 12k a year

Bike does 10k a year

Van does, i dno. Enough. Haha.

Whats the point in 5k? Its nothing!
