This thread is totally pointless now. I asked last week what the lead time is for the R and not one response.

  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

I believe it us still 5-6months

No trolling Fab, Just highlighting you get a lot of talk on forums and no action, bit like the ebay buyers who have no intention of buying. Observations on various project forums suggest that those that talk a lot tend to do very little doing with lots of excuses. The ones that get on with things do so in a quiet unassuming manner with out blowing their own trumpet and referring to apparent wealth, skills and expertise. That's how your posts read.

The math don't add up either for your intended project why spend 17.5K on a donor and rip apart a lower spec donor car forecourt value circa 18-20k.. along with a load of work for a total spend of 37.5k When you can buy a new car for £33,585 albeit DSG if you really want a manual that badly, swap out the box using the savings for the discount you negotiate and the money you recoup from selling on the DSG box. De badge the car, do the exhaust etc and you'd still be in pocket and with a better car at the end of it. Considering all of the above your intended project currently doesn't have much credibility.

Crack on and get it done and my view may shift (no pun intended)

So you think I have no actions eh?.........Just go look at the very informative links in the tech guides sections in Fabia & Roomster sub-forums.....& the parts manager at the local VW & Skoda dealers would defo disagree with you!...........then there are the tech guides I have written on the golf forums.............I've had my new car in bits already, well drivers seat out, passenger side lower dash out, all the undertrays off, wheels off,......... subframe & wishbones & front door cards are next jobs as modifying those as well.....

Anyway you are just making sweeping assumptions though.

As for "wasting time adding an "R" engine & drivetrain to a "low spec18-20K car".....................again you assume.........

My car had a book price of £29K & even now forecourt sticker of over £26K all because it has a very useful high spec with items not found on a standard "R" like sat nav, heated seats, reversing camera, Dynaudio, 230v socket, heated front windscreen, advance tel prep.........let alone the fact that it has Tungsten Silver Metallic which is N/A on the "R" estate!!

For a new Golf "R" estate with the same options you are looking at £36,675 minimum...........then to swap the gearbox & internal trim pieces around the gear selector area, also to remove the front & rear bumpers & side skirts & fit low spec ones, then get a full proper respray..........I'd prefer to find a crashed R hatch manual & just swap over the mechanical & electrical bits which are needed............the one at £17.5K I had missed, & a little high on £.......

You can't even retro add VW sat nav to Golf MK7 due to the security protocols, it is soo bad that a UK dealer ordered a customer car "R" & missed the satnav, they had to re-order a new car with the satnav............

Anyway I said previously why I won't be doing it to due personal reasons but hay-ho.....

...........oh why aren't you having a go at BossFox??..........look at the cheque-book cars he has had built! spent way more on them than they are worth as a resale, BUT he does it because he wants a "one-off" to his spec, & those are all way more difficult to do

To Mods:

What is it with this forum recently?? I don't want this thread closed as we need a thread for the Golf R & considering it is still a VAG car & has so much in common with the MK3 Octavia,.

I've been a Freedom member for years, written decent tech stuff which has views over 10k, had a Skoda for 14yrs & driven & worked on VAG for over 21yrs, & still keep the faith by having VAG cars as in Golf............you would have thought a thread on a current  VAG  car on a VAG car (abit brand specific) forum would have generated less antagonism......... :S

This thread has had quite a few reports from a number of people about a number of people.

Suffice to say there are those who know where the line is and will do all they can to push it. Others just seem to get a kick out of it.

We should and I believe generally are able to keep threads on things civil and useful. When we get more reports on a thread in a day than it gets replies it begins to waste the mod teams time... not to mention a long thread is a nightmare to catch up...

They are incredibly patient, but even that is tested from time to time. It would be shame to see it broken for the sake of some self discipline :D.

My views, lovely motor. I tend to ignore costs as I can't afford it. It does not matter if personA wants to spend 5x the amount on a project versus off the shelf, that's fine, it's the point with bespoke work. I do bespoke software dev, all the people I want to help can't afford it and those who can have bigger needs. But I always begin with, what does 80% of what you need and can that be gotten off the shelf? Found a match, then go with that...I'm not a good salesman ;)

So buying car x as is will for 95% of us will be enough; a compromise at worst, it will do the 80% of what we want. Can I live without flappy paddles, yes, do I want them, even in my citigo, yes! It would be a bit different, and mad. So we go down the bespoke build path, fully aware I'll never get a return on this 'build'.

But when costs become an issue, remember some people have aston martins as daily shopping drivers, some have dacia as the family luxury. An ex-director who told me to my face I could not have a pay rise for the 8th year on the trot was in my bad books after he ordered his 5th bmw, one for each office. I left soon after.

So ignoring costs and envy of others who can do as they please imho... We're on pure mechanicals... what's it got that makes it go and stop, I like what I see :) So will most of the car thieves in the area. Sorry.

Fingers crossed. Golf R is a nice looking car

Do they come with leather seats?

Not as standard. Two specs,£1750 other at approx. £2300

Cool thx, couldn't remeber if they did or not. One I tried was prob a specd up demo

Cool thx, couldn't remeber if they did or not. One I tried was prob a specd up demo

Forgot to say, you would probably have to get the Winter Pack at an additional, approx.£250

forget the leather as you stick to it in summer (plenty of threads on MK7 forums), so spend that money on the Dynaudio & satnav, much better in the long term come resale & for actual use believe me I have both............ B)

Still laughing at the comment about 8 or 9 pages ago digging at Alex for not maintaining a thread he started ahhahaha. At least he's now formally relinquished his duties... Hope this isn't too offensive to the accuser; but get real haha you're on an Internet forum!

To keep it relevant, I don't particularly like the way VW chose to style the Golf R. It looks too much like some of the smaller engined versions but with 4 exhausts. I prefer the slightly more aggressive appearance of earlier R32s but that's just me.

...........oh why aren't you having a go at BossFox??..........look at the cheque-book cars he has had built! spent way more on them than they are worth as a resale, BUT he does it because he wants a "one-off" to his spec, & those are all way more difficult to do

Cheers. :)

Well this isn't north korea, it's a community of 'responsible' adults. I believe in inclusion and hope people can adapt, some cannot, so as a community you become tolerant of the annoying prat(s); to a point, then get on, or choose not to. The variation then, stems from a clarity in some that simply won't adapt and are so at odds from day1, others there is a glimmer of hope, which eventually gets extinguished and I capitulate to exclusion.

I'd not advocate anyone bar me loose sleep over others postings on an internet forum though. Life is too short and time on planet earth too short.... Can't get it right all the time, and frequently don't. Eventually everyone's ship comes in, we see the same names often enough, connect the dots. Yep life is too short, you get the idea or don't.

I recon this is because they might sell more of the GTD estate (2wd) & the Alltrack estate which is 4wd & can be ordered with the GTD engine!!!!!

Shame the Alltrack can't be ordered with the 184PS and manual though. Not sure if it's a packaging issue, as the Leon X-perience equivalent is the same.

However, with the way taxation on the diesels is looking to go, I'll be looking at petrols next time!

This thread is at the point it's so full of **** you can't find anything of relevance to the Rolf, why don't you make another information thread and get rid of this one

Right then, long post/rant........

  1. This thread seems to have attracted several people (same names keep doing the same stuff) who post trolling/wind-up, have-ago-posts, knowing that it will induce yet more posts in reply the their wind-ups.
  2. This creates loads of posts not relevant to the thread, which then induces people to compound this by posting "lets close it down as it's full of rubbish" type posts as per the one above, this also induces more posts in reply.
  3. Then the mods step in & ask people to play nice.
  4. Then the thread might be ok for a few posts until the "same name" posts start at point one again, add infinitum...........
  5. Thus we have a thread full of rubbish all due to certain people "kicking -off" because they are bored & having fun.

This is Briskoda, NOT SCN.....FFS...!!!!...........GET A GRIP PEOPLE!!!

  1. This thread is in General car chat, NOT in Off-Topic, if you want to have a go at Golf owners then go start a thread in Off-Topic where you can vent your frustration!
  2. What is happening to Briskoda?, when a thread about another VAG car (Golf) which the current MK3 Octavia shares a lot of mechanics etc with , repeatedly has antagonist post, & posts in it asking for it to be closed!! ...WTF??...
  3. If it gets to the point that we can't have a thread on this site about another VAG car because of the antagonist posts then WTF are we doing having threads about non-VAG cars then, ban those I say as we've lost our way!!

As mentioned by "vrskeith" there were other new threads started on the Golf R & Golf R estate, but the Mods merged them into one thread, so if this one is closed & a new one started will the same happen by the Mods?. & if not with those same people who troll/wind-up start up again on the new thread again, with the same inevitable posts calling for it to be closed?

  1. Like "vrskeith" I have never been more disappointed with Briskoda that the stuff on this thread, & most from older (not newbies) posters WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER.
  2. If this is the direction that Briskoda is taking then I would consider not to renew my Freedom membership.

To the Mods:- We must have a thread for Golf "R" on this forum because:-

  • It is relevant to the MK3 Octavia (shares some of the same tech).
  • One of the most talked about cars at the moment.
  • This forum would look stupid if it can't have a car thread on it because it raises "controversial" posts from certain people
  • It's a VW & Skoda would not be where it is today without VW,.. & VW would not have had more money without the success of the Golf, So "Respect Due" I think!

Deep breath out & disengage rant mode.........

I look forward to posting useful info on this Golf "R" & stuff relevant to it which I have found out for my car........ B)

Back ON Topic........I'm trying to track down a pic of a development mule Estate R which had one oval exhaust each side not this stupid twin each side, will post up when I find linky.........

Shame the Alltrack can't be ordered with the 184PS and manual though. Not sure if it's a packaging issue, as the Leon X-perience equivalent is the same.

However, with the way taxation on the diesels is looking to go, I'll be looking at petrols next time!

Not packaging issue as MQB gets around this, just marketing reasons.

I was wondering that, but it's annoying. I have CR170, 4x4 and manual right now :)

What price progress.....  :dull:

fabdavrav,

is this the one.?

fabdavrav,

is this the one.?

Bingo!!............. .

Thanks for the pic "goneoffSKi" that's the one I was looking for.......why they hell VW didn't do that .....oh hang on!..............It looks a bit too "Audi" that's why..............bloody marketing dept.............

Even all the aftermarket ones seem to be twin both sides & not like the GTI with a single each side...........hhhmmmm..............

One thing with the Single at each side Oval like that is it looks just like the rear of a Mercedes A Class Diesel,  or even a Volvo.
