Superskoda hood power damper

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the shout out @BATVANVRS  I just put together what a number of others collectively found across a few posts, into one post, that hopefully made it a bit easier. Glad I could help though! :)

Looks great and I completely agree, it's a great mod that's pretty inexpensive but has a great result. Can also recommend the bonnet insulation to finish off the bonnet underside and it's less than £30.

Lol that's another thing I've recently been thinking about :D the pictures you posted up when you completed the damper install, is when I saw the bonnet insulation, also checked out the thread as regards the insulation.

It does make the underside of the bonnet look completely finished off but I'm just not sure about the heat dispense? I know the petrol vRS gets up to temp quicker than the diesel vRS but does the diesel run hotter or cooler when its warmed up compared to the petrol vRS? I've had diesel vehicles in the past that's had the bonnet insulation but the vRS is my 3rd petrol in my lifetime & they didn't have it! (suppose its more of a noise thing for the diesel to have the insulation?) I have to say that it is annoying having to clean the underside of the bonnet (which ain't often) so I can see the bonnet insulation will benefit me from having to clean! & for £30.00 it is a bargain.

I think I paid about £27 delivered from Mike (Briskoda Parts guy). Not sure about the heat dispensation, but it does seem to reduce the rattley-ness that's audible in the cabin from the engine on cold starts. The better look when the bonnet is open and more solid thud when the bonnet shuts make it even better. AFAIK the MK7 GTI and R get the bonnet insulation too. :)

Yeah I was thinking where to buy it from so good shout about Mike (Briskoda Parts)  I didn't know the MK7 have the insulation, if it's good enough for them, then it's good enough for the vRS B)

Mike is my go to source now for most VAG parts to be honest. Has always been cheaper than my local (who I refuse to use now anyway) and the service is spot on regardless of how big or small the order is.

@batmanvwall you need to do now is remove that ugly strut, it just pulls out.

Who's batmanvw  :D Yeah I know what you mean B) to be honest, I'm going to leave the ugly strut in-place for now, purely for a back up, I think in time I will remove it but glad to know it's just a case of pulling it out

Anyone has the eBay seller’s link for the struts?

This is the one I found:

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com.au%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F272705524566

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F191847450364

Just make sure that when you buy the struts, that you also add a note/message to the seller saying that you want the Febi Bilstein 27709 model/make & not any other brand.

And don’t buy the SuperSkoda ones (cost more) & don’t think there better in-terms of quality? everything ahenners posted above in-terms of what other bits n bobs you need are spot on.

Thanks mate. Just discovered that seller doesn’t post to Australia - what a bummer. Does looks like I gotta search elsewhere/another seller, perhaps locally.

Any idea if similar struts from the VW models/vehicles will fit? Seat is not sold in Australia so the part number is not particularly useful :(

Any struts with a similar length and force should be fine. Think the Febi ones mentioned are 525mm and 350Nm.

No I went for Febi Bilstein ones. The Superskoda set came in about 50 euros including delivery and I read that they aren't quite as good. Would have taken longer to come too.

The Febi struts are perfect in strength, they can lift the bonnet unsupported after initially lifting it. They slow before they come to a stop at maximum extension too.

2x Febi Bilstein 27709 struts. About £14 each from an eBay motorparts seller.

2x M8 ball joints with a 10mm ball head and 25mm thread length: https://www.sgs-engineering.com/x4-ball-extension

2x M6 ball joints with a 10mm ball head and 12mm thread length: https://www.sgs-engineering.com/x2-ball-extension

Above ball joints came to a tenner with delivery.

2x M8 and 2x M6 washers. Bought from an eBay seller for a couple of quid.

You also need an M10 spline bit to undo the bolt on the bonnet which I didn't already have.

Painted the washers and ball joint bolts with a touch up kit I already had to make them blend in and look more OEM.

Total cost probably about £42 but happy with the result.

Ok found one for the VW Polo 6R (sold in Australia) which is the sister of Seat Ibiza. Measurements and specs below seem spot on. Looks like they should be compatible?

Links below are for EU-based eBay sellers but will be using the same part number to hunt in Australia.

They should be spot on, the specs of the 27709 are very similar.

Length: 525,5 mm

Lifting Length: 215 mm
Piston Rod Diameter: 8 mm
Housing Diameter: 18 mm

Be careful with the lifting length though.

I bought cheap ones to my old Seat and they were just few millimeters longer when boot open and my rear wing on boot lid scratched the roof.
