  • This should help clear up a few confusions about "how hard it looks" or "where does this wire go".   My kit arrived a moment ago, and in this pic I've laid it all out nice and neat. You have the 2x

  • It's not the ballast that is the problem, like I said they were both sides secure on the slam panel already at this stage. It's the bulb. For some reason I just can't get these new holders to twist in

  • These are the pictures you REALLY want to see!   Can you tell which one is the Monte?          And my personal favourite...     I do have a couple of snaps of dipped & main beam

i chose the ones on the first page :wonder:

Hi, ryno, where have you got the holders from, let us know if they fit ok.

theyre terrible, ended up chopping my originals up.

originals are reusable once you make the cut, i dont understand why everybody is making out you need to have a spare set..

Hi mat. just a couple of questions, once you have put a cut in the holders , is that it , they fit ok, secondly I am sure that I read somewhere that you can , pull the two wires that connect to the light plug , out of the grommet, squeeze the grommet through the holder, then push the wires back through, would this work with the set you had , or wont the ballast connectors go through the holder.

hey, the bulb holders i bought were mangled, cheap steel and it actually took longer to try reshape one side than it took to install the whole kit. NOT WORTH THE £5 I PAID!

in the end i made one cut (with a dremel as thats all i had) bent the holder slightly to create a gap, fed the wires through and that was that. the plug for the ballast is too big to fit through the original bulb holder. thats why a cut is needed (or conversion holders with the gap)

So make a cut in the holders, feed the wires into the holder, cut a circle (18mm ish) in the rubber grommet, feed the three wires through for the ballast. mount your ballast somewhere, job done, like i said it took me about 30 minutes max on a VRS after throwing the new conversion holders in the bin!

if i were to do this again, i wouldnt waste my money on new conversion holders, i would cut my originals. they retain all strength, and can definitely be reused to fit your original bulbs (because you arent changing anything.)

I just bought this HID Kit...:happy:

http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/h7-canbus-terminator-hid-kit-slim-35w/

Used the promo code to get discount and paid £57.95 in total...went with 5000k option as I love how these look on iSamage's Monte...Fingers crossed these will be delivered to me by Weds this week so I can install and post some pics to help the others...

In regards to the comments above about the bulb holders. There is another option, if you're like me, and you don't want to chop up the originals.

The rubber grommet that holds the 4 wires in place to go through the rubber light cover. If you snip from the edge of the grommet to the hole that one of the wires to the BULB passes through, and then straight across to the other bulb wire from that hole, you can free the wires, and insert the bulb holder over the connectors which in the end wire up to the ballast. They do fit through but it's a tight fit. Make sure you have the holder the right way round.

Like I said, I just found that a better option than to chop the holders up.

thats the kit I have coming slotty

but there is no reason why you cant reuse your original holders, you arent 'chopping them up' its just one cut across a corner of the holder  :) like i said, all rigidity is still there etc.

the thing which ****ed me off with the new holders is that they didnt seem big enough to actually clip into the headlight. i sliced my thumb open with fiddling on for ages with the new holders, it was getting pretty sore and had had enough so made the cut in the originals. it fit first twist :)

cutting the grommet from the HID kit is what i was going to do if all else failed :)

You can mate. You dont need to cut anything. Its a tight squeeze but it can be done.

I did mine like that.

anyway im confused here,

why is everybody worrying about cutting their original bulb holders, which fit 100 times better than these HORRIBLE conversion holders when you could just buy some new H7 Bulb Holders from ebay when you want to revert to originals. not that the cut ones wont fit as nothing has changed about them,

im not trying to start an argument, im just giving my advice.

those conversion bulb holders were a complete and utter waste of money.. they were so warped and weren't even the correct size to clamp in the lights! one side would clip in and the other wouldnt reach.. i may have got a bad batch maybe but even so, if you're a seller you make sure stuff like this doesnt happen and its to a good standard..

just cut your originals, the bulbs will fit first go, no ****ing on with inferior parts. if you're as busy as i am, and value your time, especially at the weekend. Then time is money anyway...

mine wouldn't squeeze through :( plug was mega bulky.

Theyre all the same plugs. It will go mate. Its tight, but it will go. Especially if you bend the holder slightly.

I'm not scared of cutting it, you just dont have to aha

Well, I ordered the holders and the HID Kit already...Have very friendly member who will give me a hand fitting these...:)

The eBay listing does not say they are for Skodas. If it did, I would have returned them by now. But I bought them only assuming they were correct as it was designed for VAG cars on the whole, however it seems our cars are different. No biggy, only a fiver and to return them i'd have to pay postage and that would mean only getting about 3 pound back.

Also, not cutting the originals is just part of principle to me. I always like to have a spare. I detest working on something if I don't have a spare, as i'm still quite young and can do things wrong. I work a lot of lates - what would have happened if I had broken that holder for good by messing with it? ;) And to add to that, my car is obviously for my age on Finance. That just makes me worry more when modding  :giggle:

No argument intended, I just want to justify what other people may see as "picky" or so actions. :D Driving back from work lastnight was a doddle with these HIDs :)

I am tempted to see how much the holders are from a dealer.

Would just make it easier to swap back to halogens.

I prefer to take them out for services or warranty work, just incase they try to be funny with me, or make a note next to my car about them. Prefer to play it safe ;)

So are you saying that holders I bought won't be any use to me as these won't fit at all...?

You might be lucky, but mine didnt fit, and i dont think many others have had much luck either

for me they did not fit, may be due to the condition they came in?

to me buying a H7 bulb holder means buying a H7 bulb holder... so in my eyes it should fit, but mine didnt, in fact the one i did use which actually clipped in, isnt holding the bulb at the correct angle so come tonight i will be chopping up the other original bulb holder and fitting that also :)

im not trying to be a d**k btw :) i agree with everything you're saying.

im not arsed about the money tbh, its just when you buy something you expect it to fit, especially when it was bought to make my life easier haha.

it wasnt foggy last night and it was an actual pleasure to be driving with those HIDs fitted!!

One thing I read elsewhere... Because of the way the holders work (they can only be inserted a certain way as the clips aren't at exactly 180 degrees), the HID bulbs have to go in with the ceramic return wire on the top. This does cause a shadow in the beam, barely noticeable, doesn't affect performance, but it is there. Had to actually look for it last night going across Burton bridge and took me ages to actually spot it..

IIRC When I tried to fit the HID Bulbs in with the new holders, I was trying to fit it so that the return wire was on the bottom after fitting and twisting. Maybe that's where I went wrong. The new holders WILL work if you adapt the clips to match the clips on the originals (New ones are more of a long spade instead of the tiny flick on the originals). Compare them and you'll see what I mean.

Having a pre-FL you might be lucky.... ;)

Thanks a lot...! Yes mine is pre facelift so might be lucky lol...;)
