Hi

I need some advice about a few issues/problems. The Fabia previously belonged to Mike Daniel who got the car to this standard. It was passed on to someone else who replaced the turbo with a Garret PD150 hybrid. My girlfriend posted via her account on behalf of me earlier but we can't get back into her account to see any replies we previously had so this isn't spam.

1. Around 1500 to 3000 RPM there is an unusual sound which I originally thought was a problem with the EGR valve but GotBoost proved this incorrect and said it could be the fan belt. Since then I have taken it to two other garages who have both said different things (Boost leak, a belt of some kind). The car drives exactly how it should so I have no idea what this could be. (video will be linked shortly)

2. The trip computer and mileage are out by exactly half (so 2 genuine miles would be shown as 1 mile and 50mpg states 25mpg). I have been told this could be a problem with the ABS pump as the ABS light and TCS lights are both on, however i don't want to pay for a part which may or may not solve the issue.

2. If I was to mount a FMIC would a used one be worth purchasing or should I just spend the extra and go new? I've been looking at a Seat Sport one from Darkside Developments and was wondering how much modding do these require or are there any other easier/cheaper alternatives because I really don't want to do more work than is needed.

I am in the process of restoring the Fabia so any help/advice will be much appreciated!

Cheers,

Rhys

Boost leak could well be correct if its a high pitched squeeling/whistling/air escaping sound?

Could also be the turbo overboosting if its not set up correctly.

Has it been remapped to match the new PD150 turbo, if not it needs to be.

Ref thegwarning lights, have you not had it on diagnostics? :)

Sounds like you need someone local off here with some experience/vagcom to take a look over it for you.

Thanks for the reply!

Prior to the hybrid turbo it was mapped to 165bhp and I'm pretty sure the new turbo hasn't been mapped in so it may well be over boosting. Im in the process of having the turbo mapped in as well as getting the FMIC on.

Yeah GotBoost plugged the vagcom in and no fault codes were displayed so Im still a little puzzled as to what It could be, I think the best bet is to get someone to have a look at it that is experienced with these cars like you said.

Thanks for your help

I had an odd high pitch squeal, almost like a belt slipping.  It was a split on the EGR pipe that attaches EGR to the exhaust.  £5 worth of blanking plates later, car runs sweet.

1. Sounds as suspected, the issue with buying someone else's project is you don't know exactly was done and how well but I'd suspect boost, logging and checking pipe work.

2. How on earth in this day and age can you find not one, but two garages who can't read a fault code? Get them read and find out what's logging the fault code, then have it investigated/repaired/replaced. It's not a Merc, it doesn't require a stupidly expensive WinStar kit and multiplexer, any garage with kit purchased in the last decade should have kit capable of reading generic codes from a fabia.

3. Until you have 1 & 2 resolved I'd not bother considering 3 at all but it's been discussed and iirc a fitting guide exists with pics.
