DSG Went Bang :(

Featured Replies

Pulled out of junction yesterday, warm engine, gave it the beans to pull out into a gap, up to about 5000 Revs in first, DSG went to change to second and then seemed to "stall" and I got thrown forward in my seat.

It then finally found second and was away again with no problems. Drove about 50 mile yesterday with no problems.

However this morning in traffic on the way to work, changing from 1st to second seems very lumpy and jerky. Making a few banging noises when pulling away and when changing too.

Seems like I've got a poorly gear box.

Its going in to Skoda soon to get it checked out (Friend is a Skoda Technician and reckons i'll get a new box on warranty)

Any one had similar? Know what may be the cause?

Get it registered via Case No email, allocated by Skoda UK / DEALER.

Interesting that DSG issues are starting to raise their heads. Checkout other threads currently.

What age /mileage is yours ?.

A must!

It's a safety issue!

One of the inherent issues with driving by wire (electronics ) and I was involved in some of the early work on such steering systems ,is that it can be influenced by outside  interference for no apparent reason.(Lack of shielding etc.)

So intermittent hiccups can exist and do but are very difficult to check and identify with electronic test equipment. As you need to be able to simulate the set of circumstances that prevailed at the time. Hence the unknown even at Master Tech level or at R&D expertise.

Today 13th of May,  Checked on the 28th May,

They are having a Giraffe.

If you have an issue like a DSG playing up on the Public Highway, you pull into the side of the road as Skoda/VW say you will safely be able to do.

And as they Convinced the VOSA that you should be able to.

This is not like 'POWER STEERING' Deactivating, this is 'Loss of Drive' or Interruption to Drive'.

ie,

No Forward Motion Under Power, you are Freewheeling.

(No idea how they know that in those circumstances you can get out of where you are on the road safely, they must employ Derren Brown')

You call Skoda Assist, and if a Light is Showing or not or Plugging in shows a Fault Code, or not,

that does not matter,

you are not prepared to drive it to a Dealers/Specialist Workshop.

They Recover it, & Skoda Assist supply a car.

'Service Campaign', 'Field Action'  So Skoda & Skoda Dealers know there can be DSG Issues,

Maybe they think they are not 'Safety Critical',

But would Skoda Technicians or Skoda Executives go Drive Cars that might Cut out at Junctions or in Outside or even inside lanes?

VAG can't go on using Customer as an extension of their short falling R&D and test programmes, when developing  high tech, new to the motoring world products.

A must!

It's a safety issue!

Playing devils advocate, it will only be a safety issue when someone has an accident as a result of it.

I've just read the entirety of the "Recall that's not a recall" thread and irrespective of what you might think, VOSA decide if it's a recall in the UK.  If SUK decide to make a voluntary one, then so be it.  They've most likely done a Risk Assessment and decided that they feel confident that taking 12 months to get all affected cars have their oil changed if sufficient - or, of course, you (as the owner) can take the initiative..

I've only got mine for another 4 weeks, so it will be outstanding work on mine - should it need doing.  I've also had the odd bang and an occasional "forgotten what gear I'm in" moment - maybe a total of 3 or 4 occasions in almost 60k miles.

"A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one."

Initially it was a bit dangerous, but like i said he's gone without a hitch since. guess the gearbox could of just been a little "confused" and didn't select the next gear correctly.

Either way I'm happy with the car at the moment and it still drives like a beast, i would say i do still trust it.

As for taking a while to get it in for service, that was me rather than them selecting that date.

As long as its working fine for Fitted UK VAG show then ill be happy.

Out of interest, anyone going to Fitted UK?

Lets see how far Corporate Responsibility goes in the UK.

If VOSA/DfT takes VW,Skoda, Seat,Audi information on Reported Incidents and DSG Faults,

That will be pretty inaccurate, since so many Dealership just pass off reported Issues as 'They all do that.

If they do not log and report Customers Queries and Reports of malfunctions,

then the VW Head Office & Technical Department do not have the figures.

Like the 1.4 TSI CAVE Engines 2009-2012, the Figures are unknown by owners of the Failure rate.

Skoda/VW know how many Oil Consumption Tests, Breather Mods, ECU Updates & Engine Replacements are being done.

Nobody else does.

& many have never have  been done because Dealership Workshops & Service Desks at VW, Skoda, Seat & Audi

told the Owners, Within Tolerances, or 'They All do that.

Like they do With,

'Pulling to the Left'.

PS,

'revering',

are you expecting them to dismiss issues you might have with the DSG/Drivetrain since you car is on 'Air'?

That sounds just like the Ford Accounting policy to me  :bandit:

Perhaps someone at VAG and/or Skoda should have a look at Ralph Nader's "Unsafe at any speed", which for some strange reason appears to no longer be available at their local tax-dodging Amazon ;)

Mine's not on air. Will be going on Coilovers once its been in.

Now that you still have the youthful confidence, the next time you nearly have a Golf in you side!! Will you still retain that view. Hope that you wear your brown trouser very day, just in case!

Guess you haven't got kids or the missus on board!!

Did you report THEM in writing to Skoda UK as a "NEAR MISS", MALFUNCTION.

if not how will Skoda /VOSA ever have a true understanding of in the field problems.

Next thing, Insurance companies will be on the bandwagon-"Was it a DSG PROBLEM that caused the side on accident........"

I didn't have a "near miss", Keith.

As I drive the wife's Citigo with ASG, I get used to moments where the gearbox gets confused occasionally, so it (currently) doesn't bother me PERSONALLY.

Perhaps I should have reported VW to VOSA when my Scirocco decided to cut out when pulling onto a motorway because their service computer specified the wrong spark plugs?

Going OT now..
