So is the face lifted model not selling very well then Tom?

Yours is hardly run-in @10000 MILES.

Is the exhaust transferable?

I doubt I will go for the deal, would make sense to keep mine really but it's still tempting!

No idea on LCI sales Keith. This deal was put together as part of a drive to get a volume bonus for September new reg sales for the dealership.

Exhaust is fully transferable should I take the plunge...,

I'd be tempted to go manual tho this time around just for something different.

I'd be tempted to hang on to yours for a couple of years longer then see what the M140/M135/M2 deals look like at the run-out of this iconic little RWD hatch :)

(I'm assuming the next engine will be called M140?)

Funnily enough I am reading that the M2 will have a modified version of our engine and not the next gen 3.0.

Much as I always enjoy a change I think you are right about hanging on abit longer.

Normally I'd be chomping at the bit so the fact I'm still thinking about it speaks volumes how much I like this car! Either that or I'm getting too sensible with age lol

Apart from the looks There isn't too much difference I guess. I do prefer the front of mine, but also I prefer the your rear (if you will excuse the expression ;) )

I have been listening to the recordings of the M2 however and it sounds a little bit special. Probably out of my price range, but if the previous 1M was anything to go by, then it wont lose any real money in it's first few years :) Actually the more I think about it, the more it makes sense, assuming it's as good as we hope. Probably Mr Harris will make or break it's reputation :D But when you think about it, the last of the RWD 2-ers and hopefully the greatest, harking back to the former M3 glory days. Might be a shrewd move to save up for one.

I have been using Sat Nav in cars since 1999 and find them jolly useful. Wouldn't want a car without one in my job. Unless I misunderstand you and you mean that an auto is like a sat nav? might be a problem for RS3 owners and A45 owners then I guess.

Haha don't read too much into it Keith!

As much as I think the ZF8 is the best thing since sliced bread I'd be tempted to go manual again purely just to mix it up abit and make the feel of the new car as different as poss to the outgoing one. I'm a definite flappy paddle fanboy but I still like a good manual too ;-)

I do worry though that I'd end up missing the auto car....

Having slept on it I think I'm going to turn down their offer for now and hang fire abit longer. Will be interesting to see if they come back with an even stronger deal....

Tom, not sure if this is manual or Auto of both. What is your "real world" average after 10000 miles. What is the M135i service frequency, have you had a 10000 yet. How much do they charge?

I am currently averaging just under 27mpg. Which isn't too bad considering the amount of short journeys and town use it gets. When out of town I tend to open the taps and enjoy the performance whenever possible so it's never going to return great economy really.

Not had it serviced yet, the first service is usually due around 18000miles lol. I know some people are horrified by that thought and get it done sooner. Mine is on 10k and the service indicator says another 8000 miles to go before it needs to go in. It's entirely variable/condition based servicing regime.

My mate's M135i is on 18k miles and the car is saying it's not wanting a service for another 6k.... He's obviously not driving it hard enough haha! Not sure how much the first service costs but I've heard its reasonable and there is no "M-tax" associated with servicing a "real" M-car :-).

Have you got a mind to get a test in the M2 when it comes out Tom. having already tried the RS3 and found it wanting?

Absolutely! Definitely looking forward to trying the M2 :-)

I did like the RS3 as an overall package but not enough to swap my M135i for one just yet! Very fast and oh so capable and nailed to the road but you get a sense that fun had been sacrificed in the pursuit of ultimate performance. Fine if getting from A to B as quick as possible is all that counts i suppose! I think I'd have enjoyed it more if the demo car had been fitted with the optional sports 'zorst.

Mrs Furbytom is absolutely in love with the RS3 though. She'd like to change her Fabia for one next year. There is no way I'm prepared to spend the kind of cash required to have both on our drive so I might get her to try out a Golf R /S3 or even R estate as cheaper options as I think it's the haldex/4WD feel that she likes and the familiar VAG ambience rather than needing the full-on pace. Any of these options might tick her boxes in the same way but save quite abit of cash. For what she wants I'm sure an S3 (at 10k+ cheaper) might be fine lol! If however she is still insistent on an RS3 then I might be able to have my arm twisted next year but would probably (shock horror!) chop in the M135i for a cheap and cheerful but fun small manual car (Fez ST or even another Abarth 500). Wiould probably regret it though.... Lol.

It's getting to a stage where even these modern fast hatches are too fast for the road :( I can see me in years to come getting something like the Subaru.Toyota GT86 just for the fun element and not worry about the absolute speed of the thing. It's one advantage the M135 has imho, it has many compromises and helps deliver the fun at lower speeds too :) I do love the look of the new MX5 though and the early reviews are more than promising

You and Mrs Furbytom still not Test Driven the R yet then, as I thought that some months ago this was the preferred (Variant) replacement for the Fabia vRS Estate :

Sadly not Keith my local dealer is abit naff. I've contacted them twice to ask for them to get in touch when they have a demo available but never hear back. Will be a few hours round trip to another dealer but I'm off work next week so might enquire if anyone has one in :-)

I'm sure you have seen this page Tom, but just in case you haven't   BMW Blog M2   the video lets you hear a prototype yowling away (well that and lots of tyre torture). About 1'15'' there is a shot of the M2 being followed by what looks like a 4 banger A45, I think the M2 wins the battle of the exhaust notes :D

Worth ringing Murray VW in Plymouth and ask for Jamie Watts he was very good with my Golf R, nothing was too much trouble :)

Tell him I (Ben) have recommended you and you can have the £50 M&S vouchers if it came to anything.

The R is very much the full package and the estate should be good and 4x4 was why I did not go back to take a serious look at 135i, especially living up on the moors ;) you can start punching the power in so quickly and sure footed in the Golf compared to the BMW IMHO having driven both.

Funnily enough a large part of me buying my M135 was to drive it on the moors (North Yorkshire into Co Durham and also Northumberland) :) Admittedly it wont be pressed into service on those roads during winter as 1,000+ feet up, I might not have too much traction.
