Picked up my M135i today- gentlemen get your Kleenex ready for some car porn...

It will sound much as this one then.

Good honest review :)

In summary, both cars are great.

Golf R a slightly better handling car with a great engine. BMW M235i, a hoot to drive with a great engine.

Either car would be a good great purchase proposition :)

  • Right, this is getting ridiculous now.   I really do feel sorry for Tom, as his thread is being constantly spoilt by off topic arguments.   Can the people involved please no longer post if it is d

  • Ok so here it is, side by side comparison of M-Perf and Stock M135i exhausts. A mate of mine owns the white car, the grey one is mine. :-)

hope you don't mind me posting all this guff in our thread Tom, but I got my car back from the detailers and the result is superb. Super shiny and ultra reflective. The coating has teeny flecks of gr

Just wait till the next round of M2 v R400 v New Uber A45 (400+bhp). If they are as good as we expect it should make for an epic showdown. Shame Top Gear isn't about to do it.

There might not be any left afterwards. Sorry, I need  to fill the garage of my mansion (I am banking on finding a lot of money)

Proper drift car!

Bit expensive to start playing that game though.. :D

Happy as I am I think :D Can't say I have missed a LSD. Perhaps I am getting old, although I don't go racing on the public roads so it isn't a deal breaker anyway.

The only mods I think are worthwhile are the Exhaust and possibly the suspension. I have read a lot of people have changed the springs on their cars and got worthwhile results. There is a large rumour going round that the LCi version has had a suspension tweak anyway, so the only way to find out would be to get an extensive drive in a pre LCi and  one that has the different springs.

So here is a question. My M135 is in for a new headlight and control unit (long story) and I have been given a loan car. Did I get lucky and receive something nice, or did they fob me off with something I might consider a bit 'sub-par'.

Clue. It's got 4 wheels and an engine, oh and it's white

It'll be a 116i? And is that the same issue where battery warning pops up on start up iirc

Well if I said I am finishing my early lunch, going out to play and hopefully empty a large amount of it's full tank, would that help?    :) :) :)

Just popped home to find an excuse to park it outside the house again :D and the ruddy phone rang to say the M135 will be ready in about 2 hours :( Oh well, I'll have to go out and try and empty what's left in the tank :) Shouldn't be too hard, although the M3 doesn't half make our roads seem small! (I don't mind in a dimensional way)

Not bad for a loaner!

WANT!

It'll be a 116i?

I use Sytner BMW and usually get a Mini unless I have a chat with the salesman and make out I'm ready for swapping. :)

M3 looks epic. Sooooo jealous! ;-)

I miss my M3...........See how I say it like it was mine.

The only things I can whinge about is the lack of sunglasses holder and a surprisingly small brake pedal for the left foot brakers amongst us (not me).Oh and the exhaust in particular, booms something quite loud at low to medium revs, it makes the engine feel coarse with the resonance. Naturally when pressing on it all starts to make more sense, but it is never as sweet or turbine like as the M135. Also I did wonder why it didn't popple and crackle like the M135, then it dawned on me, you just need to give it more beans :) Then it can actually go bang....in a good way :) But blimey you don't half find yourself travelling at speed quickly. You can tell a really powerful car by the way it accelerates at high speed and this thing is properly quick. Maybe not supercar quick, but more than enough for most British roads (wish I had it for a weekend blast in Northumberland and north Yorkshire....other fast roads are available). Oh and it is definitely RWD, I found that out only 200 yards from my house :) (I wanted a bigger smilie there really)

I really love the look of the M3 but the cost is eye watering. Not sure it is worth twice an M135i?

It's not worth it in £s, but if you are in the market for something of this stature, it makes a compelling case. I like to have a go in the new C63......hmmmm there's thought :D I think it would be hard to live with if you only drive in built up areas and the running costs are staggering. you have to track this car if you can't access some remote fast roads. I'd definitely spec the DSC gearbox, it's awesome, even smoother than the ZF 8 speed when in it's first 2 shift modes (it's got a bit of a kick when you nail it, but it's not unpleasant). But the extended M levers are beautiful to use and the speed of the change is truly excellent. It's the best dual clutch gearbox I can recall driving and if the current Porsche version is better (as is implied in road tests), then it must involve the Dark Forces and a spot of Harry Potter magic. The steering is nice (it has much more self centring on the motorway than the M135) and changes direction like a startled Stickleback, although changing between the different settings doesn't reveal much, it still feels like all modern electrically steered cars, so I'd leave it in comfort. The adjustable suspension is great and the comfort setting is actually pretty good :) it doesn't roll much and soaks up most of Manchester rough and ready roads. Switching into the more sporty modes makes the car feel even more planted, but the ride quality is still remains pretty good, I definitely prefer it to the M135 in that sense. Oh and the throttle modes are similar the M135, except the eco setting feels about the same as Sport on the M135 :D

Overall I'd say it's a great GT car for flying up motorways and such like, as well as a real chuckable hoonigans car if the mood takes you. The back likes to squiggle without much provocation :) and I suspect that in the rain you would have to either have to respect it a lot, or have a standby Aryton Senna in the glove box, just in case.

2 for 1 Amanda. Go for it!!

I just need more money and a much bigger garage :) Where is George Clooney when I need him?

Jeremy has done some testing for you.

Best just get your order in.

Had an awesome weekend at SantaPod in the M135i. Went up for RWYB on Saturday then the BMW show on Sunday. 3 of us in M135i's went from Cornwall in a mini-group.

I set a pretty respectable quarter-mile time of 13.009s @108.8 mph so happy with that although would have been nice to nip under the 13s mark.

Tom,

Are your tyres holding up okay. What mileage would you estimate before change.
