Richard's (Brisky) Roomster

Have to say I am really liking the Roomster's rear seat and boot space while not being that big.

Lack of Climatronic, Maxi-Dot and Bluetooth is gnawing at me...

Ride is very well judged too.

Additional weight over the rear compared to the Fabia (plus this has a light 1.2tsi petrol and 5 speed) means it feels good considering it's on stock Skoda "stilts" suspension and 16" rims.

Damping over bumps feels well judged too, doesn't crash or lurch.

A real nice to use every day car.

I did go on the configurator and work out the cost of building an SE with a heap of extras to satisfy my curiosity.

£19,500 !!!

I know it's minor, but I get a lot of important calls.

So Bluetooth is very important.

I find the decent factory built in systems superior.

It was my mistake not to check it was included.

I looked in a Fabia Black Edition and it was...

In the Black Edition brochure it is stated under the Fabia, but not the Roomster.

I just got it into my head they were the same.

Can't really blame Skoda. :D  Although it does seem a bit "tight".

Turns out the Roomster is an SE with Monte front end and a few extras.

The Fabia is really a Monte Carlo Tech, hence it is better specced already.

Even the Black Edition Fabias are badged as a Monte Carlo.  There is no Black Edition markings on the cars themselves.

So completely different starting points.

They just look almost identical.

Is it swappable? Yeah I really should look at getting a Bluetooth system for the amount of calls I get from work etc

Not sure.

Will speak to Preston Motors.

Maybe there is a module that can be plugged into the Amundsen.

In theory it's doable.

It is a nice spec, any update?

Did over 100 miles today in one go all on Adaptive Cruise, and it really is very good and makes driving the M25,M1 and M6 very easy.

No, three weeks I think.

Should have been built last week.

So, 8th September.  One week on.

Seems like a short time for an update?

Maybe, but it's had a pretty busy first week of ownership.

Some commuting, trip to the Brisky Meet in Kent and a family trip to London at the weekend.

It's done 565 miles since I collected it with 7 miles on the clock.

As a family car it really is a good bit of kit.

Those big rear windows and glass roof mean it's very pleasant in the back seats.

Add in the fact that it seems to have around 10-15cm more rear legroom that the Fabia and it's a good (cheap) way to transport your kids around.

Drives well too, with the Monte Carlo front seats (which are a great shape) it's a comfortable drive although looking at the mk2 Fabia dash does remind you that it's a bit of a budget car.

So my choice is now if it's a keeper.

If I was looking for a family car and wanted to spend around £12-£13k then I would.  It's a good package and the main issue of the questionable styling blends in fairly well with the black paintwork.

As a family vehicle it's far superior to a Fabia due to space, light and practicality with sliding rear seats and a huge boot.

But it doesn't get close enough to the Yeti I already have, which will become the family car when my new mile muncher arrives in a few weeks.

So while I have been converted by the Roomster and it's quiryness/practicality, it will in a short time be back on sale at Preston Motors through no fault of it's own.

Call it a bit of an impulse purchase.

Could be a good buy for someone.

Considering it's a 64 plate with under 1000 miles and not being a demo car you won't have to wait until it's three months old.
