Great having the power but with petrol prices going throught the roof 2.5 litres isn't going to be the eco mans choice ;)

Weird how it's a 5 cylinder as well.

Also looks very much like the Leon Cupra R shape wise.

Definitely something to watch - 10 seconds faster round the Nurburgring than the Focus RS

Time to start making enquiries at my local Ford dealers ;)

Chris

That must be getting close to a Fabia VRS, now! :D

Seems a tidy car, and they are using the Volvo based engine that goes in the S60R. SO in theory this car can be mapped to 345hp with no other mods. I will have to wait and see :)

The Current Volvo S40 and V50 is on the same floor pan and uses the same engine if you need to compare. But the Volvo is

Give over it's nothing compared to the Fabia ;)

INteresting you should say that as it has almost exactly the same torque as a furby Vrs

Focus 236lb.ft

Fabia 230lb.ft

Just dont mention the horsepower :grumpy:

But then neither is the Octy unless you go for the diesel variant... ;)

a six-speed close-ratio gearbox, and an additional instrument pod containing a turbo boost pressure gauge, and oil temperature and pressure dials as standard.

hey they have copied me!!

ummm not RWD though, I feel a need for RWD or AWD. I do like the sound of the leading 3 figure though ;)

Rather have the 1.8 / 2.0 litre whatever the vRS 2 is going to be than a whacking big 2.5 litre

I read the little review in the Sept issue of Evo.

By all accounts, the car is more refined that the new RS would have been, but as mentioned is quicker than the old RS.

The Volvo 5 pot turbo is very torquey with a nice flat torque curve.

Peak torque is achieved @ around 1700rpm right thro' to 5000rpm or there abouts.

off topic, how about a nice A4 quattro, not much heavier than an octy vRS

on topic

not sure of the new focus look but the stats seem very impressive

Its all about the best value for me,

the most power and fun per pound,

and if this Focus ST is as good as it seems it would be a definate option for me to replace the Octy and or the Boxster as thats going to be changed early next year.

Thought the ST was gonna be AWD?

wat about a wrc fabia! :D

I think the RS was gonna be the AWD chassis.

Interesting that it's cheaper than the Astra - that'll hurt Vauxhall.

just because its the same block as the volvo doesn't mean its the same setup with the same turbo etc

no car could just be re-mapped for a 120bhp gain surely

I do not see what is so different about the focus st fom any other hot hatch.

1. Its fwd

2. 215bhp from a 2.5 turbo? thats poor

3. Its a focus and its ugly

4. There are far better other cars out there.

You could easily throw similar complaints at the Octy vRS...I'd much rather have this new ST over a vRS. Think about a non vRS 1.8T 150bhp from a 1.8 turbo - how crap is that???? do you really think that the 2.5T Volvo unit is being particularly stretched at 215bhp

The new ST looks much nicer than a standard new focus (which is actually growing on me...) and in standard trim it's quick around the 'ring rather than just in a straight line

:)

You are right, the same complaints apply to my octavia rs. hence why id rather wish id bought an impreza as common as they may be.

I think Ford have been a bit clever here, wait for the Astra VXR to be announced and then steal its fire by undercutting it by

'cept the running costs, insurance and chances of it being twocced are far higher. For the money I don't think there's anything to touch the new Focus ST.

No I was comparing the oct rs to the focus st, similar running costs and insurance. I take it you ment the impreza? For the money you could pick up a very low mileage sti with PPP. Which is much more of a drivers car for the money. I guess its down to personal choice really.

If there was a new ford capri, then that would be a different story.

there is going to be a new capri isn't there?
