Columbus, Blue tooth, Voice control AGAIN!

Featured Replies

Probably Maplins? I didn't need it as the existing wire was long enough already when I did my friend's.

Thanks Adam

Just a quick thought, should I be able to make voice controlled calls via mfsw as it stands, where do I check with vcds to see if this is enabled?

Cheers

Possibly.  It would be in telephone 77 - check voice control enabled or similar.

Thanks Adam

All the best!

Thanks Phil

I will take to the same chap who fitted my sub with the my-gti instructions!

Not feeling brave enough to attempt myself

Cheers

Haha.

Yes unless you are competent/brave enough to snip wires in half and solder them together as well as removing the headunit and swapping pins round it's maybe best to take it to someone who (hopefully) know what they're doing.

Shouldn't take them long. Should only need max an hour to do it.

Phil

Thanks Phil, just booked a chap to do it, he said 1hr to 90mins tops, unitl without seeing it

Hope it all goes well

Thanks

Right, just had a play with VCDS and enabled the volume roller on MFSW so now when pressed it opens up the VC dialogue.

However, it does not recognize any commands. Is this due to the MIC not being routed through columbus, as I thought this function may be separate?

Also took out the columbus to check around the back, but as it was a bit tight, I did not want to disconnect the two black connectors on the RHS (with silver flat round plugs - what are these conenctors?) in case they were power as I dont have code.

I did take a few pics of the unit, where would the code be?

From my view of the connector, difficult to see if any mic is there.

Chap coming round next weds to rewire

Thanks

If its expecting VC but not hearing any then the mic routing is wrong. Have a look on the 'My Gti' website for the three possibilities.

Not sure what black connectors you are referring to: aerial is a double white, blue is GPS & the large square black one is the quadlock for all other connections.

The code is stored in the car so don't worry about disconnecting the HU or the battery.

Thanks KB, had a look at some columbus pic and those black leads are the aerial connectors.

May take it out tmrw and have another look

I think VC would work exactly like you are experiencing if the mic was not routed through the Columbus so that should be sorted by your rewire.

Thanks Adam, am hoping to be sorted on Weds, Be great to have it back again!

Cheers

Good news, I now have voice control - just have to learn how to use it properly!

It turned out that the BT loom had all the wires in place and there were two white plugs that needed swapping over and hey presto - VC!!

It did take a bit of time for the tech to see exaclty what was what behind the columbus and he had to drop the glovebox to get a bit more access to the loom, but all done in less than an hour

Thanks for all your help chaps

See post 16, always worth checking!

See post 16, always worth checking!

I would never had seen that as all the wiring was wrapped in that sticky black cloth tape, which the tech had to cut off to see what was what!

When seeing it, I remembered reading about swapping a couple of white plugs over, and the tech confirmed they were mic cables!

So glad I didn't start chopping wires!!

Thanks Adam
