Insurance time!

Featured Replies

My renewal is up, £168 with £200 excess. What sort of figures are others paying, I appreciate its a lot more dependant on postcode, age, NCD etc so Im guessing the question is really, is any one paying less than me because I reckon I could get that down a bit further.

Paid £140 two years ago then paid £750 last year with a newly passed 17year old on. She's off it this time so hopefully less than what you've been quoted !!

£375 with Tesco, some £600 cheaper than what my previous provider wanted!!

Still too expensive in my book but I've my brother on the policy with little driving experience.

Every year I purchase Vaseline to sooth the experience of by shafted!

I paid £166 with Hastings Direct.

Funny Hastings wanted £980 off me!!

I found them the cheapest all round last year. Saying that they wanted £720 for the Rapid Sport I'm getting. I've beat them with another place at £350 :)

£177 here for the Citigo. I've read folk are getting covered for as little as £120 ish when I bought mine, infact I've had quotes that low but it has to be with companies I can trust, not just anything that comes up on a comparison site.

Having said this I will do my best again to get the price down, surely a 60+ yr old with no convictions or claims in over 40 yrs of driving in semi rural Derbyshire can do better.

I was quoted £138 by Saga, but that's probably a big clue as to how old I am!

I have put my wifes car through hastings direct, they appear to be after the price conscious market lately. Seems fine it appears until you need to make a claim; according to the review centres.

Yes they use an agency which left me £50 out of pocket for a rear end non fault accident!! They insisted I use them and not let the other guy's insurance carry out the repair. If I had done I'd be £50 better off in my pocket!

Interesting with the older members I removed the old man (67) as he knocked the insurance up to nearly double.

Honestly I think it's all made up on the spot!

I'm 29 and looking at the moment, best quote so far was £151 :-) not too bad!

Over half what I pay and I'm older! I really really hate my postcode! (high price is due to this)

I'm lucky with the postcode as it's in he middle of nowhere which really helps! I also found it was cheaper to insure a 1.7 van rather then a 1.2 Fabia or a 1.2 Clio it's crazy

Maybe try the Post Office.  If over 50 they say they guarantee to beat your renewal by at least £50 (Ts and Cs apply) or free assistance and recovery if under 50.  They use an outfit called BISL, which sounds distinctly less than impressive but BISL provide cover for all manner of different, well known, names and I have been with them in the past and found them no worse than most others.

Worth a try?

Cheapest price rarely means best value. I prefer to pay a little more to get a decent policy and good customer care. I've always got quotes from those "Recommended Providers" from Which? currently these are: NFU Mutual, John Lewis Insurance, Saga and RIAS. Surprisingly, John Lewis were surprisingly competitive with excellent cover....and my renewal premium for the second year was slightly less!

21, Male, with 3 Years No claims Discount, 1 non-fault accident, £350 voluntary with £200 compulsory (due to age)

£400 including legal cover, personal injury and courtesy car.

id say thats pretty good :)

harumph! I tried a new quote with my existing company and they under cut their own renewal by £20  - now looking at £150

which seems pretty good then by the replies!

But I will give john lewis a lookup, thanks for the tip @oldstan The AA are now topping the charts for an extra £3 saving, so its down to extras now like windscreens..

Im currently with Churchill, so reasonably reliable, and I have made a claim (not my fault) with them this year already and they dealt with it pretty seamlessly.

My Sports due for renewal mid October so just been on Confused.Com to get a rough idea what to expect and came up with £212-00.Just out of interest put a Swift Sport in for comparison and came up with £267-00 !.A group 19 car is only £55-00 per year dearer than a group 1 car,I am confused now.

Forgot to say, tried Saga last week for the Sport and came up with £368-00,pathetic.

Which jjust goes to prove that you really do have to get your own quotes rather than rely on the recommendation of others.  I've just renewed my Yeti and Hyundai i10 at £156 and £125 respectively..with Saga....both were competetive renewals.  But we all live in different postcodes and different circumstances.

But I still take notice of what others say about their experience even though their encounters may be very diffeent from someone else.

NFU Mutual are reckoned to be good but quoted 100% more than other, reputable, companies.

I always reckon it's worth at least a quick look on comparison sites and giving some of the better known companies a ring just to get a feel.

And then give Chris Knott a ring. I got my renewal quote from DL for my Octavia at £336. Got an Admiral quote for £254 through the meerkats and then got another ten quid off from CK.

Took me under an hour all in, and saved £90.

You are more insuring your risk than the car itself. add in any known claim/repair theft stats for each model and maybe the swift doesnt get stolen or is cheap to repair and there you go.

I used to have a TVR and the insurance was very cheap - on enquiry it was because they said they have very low theft figures. so statistically they didnt pay out much on them!

I'd say so, only a few pounds more than me, considering I'm nearly old enough to be your dad, so the saying goes!

Funny enough a Fabia mk2 vRS and Audi A1 1.4TSi are both cheaper!! (go figure).

Just to be silly I put in a Fiesta ST3(group 30 car) and got £304-00.Thats 29 groups difference and only £92-00 more,Im getting tempted here now!.

maybe because they broke down all the time? Not ideal for an escape car!!
