tweenster's Citigo Monte Carlo - it's very red!

Great mpg readings. These cars are small but cope well with anything you have asked of it. Keep the updates coming

  • Hi, just a quick introduction having been a reader but not a poster on the forum for some time. I'm a Brit living in Germany and finally picked up my red Monte Carlo last week. The pick up was in Muni

Today I put some sound deadening material in the boot and then fitted the rear mudflaps. I didn't want to drill holes in the body work so decided to cut the 4 plastic studs off the flap and then fit the flaps using the small clip at the top and the metal clip at the bottom. They went on easy peasy and it took about 2 minutes per side (3 if you include cleaning the area first!). Will they stay on? Don't know, but the metal clips are pretty solid and I took the car for a 9 mile round trip to the curry house at up to 50 mph and they hadn't moved when I got back. I reckon a couple of those paper clips (the ones like miniature bulldog clips without the arms) should do the trick. And if they come off then so be it! Very happy with how they fit, they are square on and line up perfectly with the wheels.

The big test will be when I go through a big puddle at speed and a wall of water hits them. Until then, they're on!

Looks great with the Monte Carlo, considering getting some fitted when I get my car in for its service in two weeks.

How's the sound material in the boot working for you? :-)

Hard to tell, I think the front bulkhead is where most of the noise is coming from, although I quite like the sound of the engine when it goes beyond 4000rpm.

The three-pot growl from 3500 to the Redline is great. Just sucks that it's all noise. Certainly in the 59BHP model, there's no power beyond 4000rpm, just a growl.

Indeed it is, but driven enthusiastically the Citigo can easily keep up with more powerful cars that are just 'being driven' and I am having a whole lot more fun!

Yes, that's true. If you like that noise and little bit of grunge, I came across a new Induction Kit Foam Air Filter, which will bring it out a bit more. Also heard it makes the car accelerate like a ferrari! :p

Yeah all noise and no go that's what ours are like. But good fun [emoji16]

I know some day I will get rid of that blasted filter and swap for a cone with a piped intake instead of just sticking it onto the engine block, it seems like that gap next to the resonance chamber is designed for a cone filter  I've asked my insures twice now and tried different wording but to no avail, I'm too young to do any engine mods apparently :swear:

I really don't see the point of any engine mods to the Citigo; if you wanted something faster you should have bought a different car, a Suzuki Swift Sport would be an obvious choice. I like the 'sporty' looks and the fact that it just about runs on air!

I couldn't care less about getting any more power from it, it's more to do with the sound, without the resonance chamber on it sounds so much better IMO just listen!

A few more small changes on the way:

I've ordered chrome indicator bulbs for the fronts and sides to get rid of the 'fried egg' look.

I've got some self-adhesive hooks and para chord to prepare my own parcel shelf lift mechanism.

I've ordered a motion sensing LED strip light for the boot; not exactly sure where I'm going to mount it though.

And I actually got the Karcher pressure washer out of the box and set up this evening; this is going to make car washing a far easier experience.

Yes, what a stupid idiot! The man can't drive for ****

Perhaps the led strip could stick to the parcel shelf with velcro? If that's possible

That's what I'm thinking at the moment; need to see how big it is when it arrives.

Is it a motion sensor? If you are able to stick it to the shelf you could conceal it quite nicely

Yes it is.

Had to pop 2 miles to the shop this morning and took the scenic route around some local lanes just for the hell of it. The Citigo may be designed for the city but it is a fine companion on a twisty back road.

And the mudflaps have stayed on at speeds up to 70 (ahem) miles an hour.

The citigo is brilliant on country lanes. It was certainly more fun than my old remapped 320d ( a car renowned for good handling) despite the citigo giving away about 120bhp and about 200lbft torque.

My little Sport can outrun my friend in his M3 on the bends but after that..... Well [emoji57]

The disadvantages of FR drivetrains on tight bends! :-P

Does this Monte come with electric and heated wing mirrors?

Thanks
