Let the 150, See the Fabia.

*generic title*

So my 2006 Fabia Vrs with 93,000 miles on the clock needs a new engine as oil is going into my water and my water is just disappearing

So why not make it bigger and better in the process right?

so my question is, will a pd150 engine from a golf be the same as the fabia pd130? (apart from turbo and injectors)

Any comments or any help at all will be a massive help

  • Ah the voice of reason has arrived.             Oh, hang on a minute...

  • Ummm, why not simply whip the head off and replace the head gasket? Reads like someone's had the dial turned up to 11 and broken it, stripped his mods off and traded it.

  • you reckon he'll fit Nankangs cos he ran out of money?

Different ECU, or certainly map.  So you would need the immobilser recoding or defeating.

i have very little knowledge on cars (changed a few tires and fitted some air horns) so you may have to help me out if possible

would it still run with the new engine but i would get the advantage out of the map?

how do you know your engine can't be fixed?

You would need the ECU from the donor car, otherwise it probably wouldn't run at all. But if you just stuck the new ECU in your car the immobiliser would stop it running.  I suppose there is no guarantee that the ECU and dashpod are directly compatible.

You also need to consider engine mounts, exhaust, driveshafts, gearbox.  Does the 150 run the same intercooler as the 130 (I should think it does).  You may want to look at a FMIC whilst you are doing so much work.  The 150 is also pretty famous for cam shaft wear - correct oil is very very important, so unless you now the history of the car you could have an issue.

the plan is to swap engines with a pd150 to reduce down time on my car, so i can put it in the 150 car to see whats wrong with it and fix it (or buy a 150 write off)

well i thought that the only difference was turbo and injectors so wouldnt mounts be the same? as with the drive shafts i already have aftermarket shafts as the OEM ones bent.

if you want to reduce downtime then you'd be better off sorting a PD 130 with the same engine code and fault finding/ modding the other while it's out and on the bench IMO

PM BoggFox as iirc he had an engine somewhere

i say reduce loosely, what i mean is the less the better ;) i just want to know how its been done before :/

It'll be off the road for a while if you do the conversion yourself as it will be an utter PITA so id just get another 130

No because the engine has come out of a different car, there is no guarantee that the mountings are the same. The exhaust manifold/turbo etc. could foul on the fabia bulkhead, the exhaust positioning may be different.

With the driveshafts that's assuming the gearbox is the same, you have two different sets of suspension etc. to deal with.

Dude, if this is your first rodeo, you DON'T choose the biggest baddest buckaroo to learn on!

but, but i want it bigger, better, faster and stronger :(

well, if you've got money to spunk against a wall and someone else is doing the work, get a 1.8T and 4X4. Job done

And to cost a **** load more in insurance.

And don't employ me to do it  most mechanics won't touch your conversion idea in all honesty it'd be a tuner like Jabbasport if you were to pay to get it done and it would be expensive plus BossFox normally keeps them pretty sorted for work.

you reckon he'll fit Nankangs cos he ran out of money? :notme:

in that case by the time it's done he may be able to afford the insurance.

No I reckon Kenda Radials :)
