Redline error

Featured Replies

I have just noticed (after 18 months of ownership) that the redline on the PID rev counter is different to the rev counter in the cars instrument cluster. On the PID its 4k and the cars instruments its 6k.

Does anyone else have this problem and did you solve it?

Does the Garmin unit do the same?

Update: - Ours is a Navigon unit (Skoda Portable System DRF acording to Navigon Fresh)  on a 75PS Elegance.

I will ask Garmin/Skoda and see what happens (Not much me thinks)

(I did do a search to see of this had been covered before but no luck).

I know which one I would pay attention to!

Although as I have the 60bhp version there is no point taking it beyond 5000rpm.

I know my Garmin is registered with Skoda as a Citigo Diesel [emoji15]

Interesting [emoji6]

I've never noticed that as I don't look at that part. I have had mine on the rev limiter a few times but as said there's nothing up there power wise.

Just checked my PID and the red line starts at 6000 just like the dash' rev counter.

Looks like it thinks yours is a diesel... which is weird considering you can't get one!

Well if they can't sort it out they will have to give me a new Garmin unit.

Mine is at 6000rpm, but the demonstrator I tried had the red line at 4000rpm on the PID.

Mines exactly that that too. never really bothered me.

Basically its the same system from the mii and up! and a few other cars, so its just a generic readout.

Where did you get the fact the PID thinks its diesel? And I will see if I can find it in the config files

When I received my replacement PID (Garmin) from the dealer I plugged it into fresh for updates and it asked me if the chassis number and model were correct. The chassis number was but it states mines a diesel [emoji15]

It does store the VIN on the PiD, but I have yet to find the dials info. Im sure ive seen it before....

Well if they can't sort it out they will have to give me a new Garmin unit.

Or a Citigo diesel :giggle: ?

Contacted Both Garmin and Skoda Technical by email yesterday. John from Skoda Technical phoned today to say he was contacting the techy guys to see what can be done. Good one Skoda for the quick reply. I won't hold my breath for Garmin!!!!

Mine also red lines at 4k on the pid

Mine is also on the 4k mark, perhaps its to do with the engine size? People have said that the 60ps is just noise past the 4k mark, I tend to find it useful, if I need to accelerate quickly I always change at 4k and not 6k

Mines the same on both! Red starts at 6k! And mine a 60hp sport :-)

I now have 75 bhp Citigo where the max power is at 6200rpm but it still red lines at 6000 just like 60 bhhp model

So the nice man from Skoda contacted me and said to book the PID and car into my local dealer for them to sort it out. If they can't then its a new PID (or maybe a new Citigo  :notme: ).

I would suggest anyone else with the same problem contact Skoda Technical and get it sorted.

Well or car has been at the dealers all day and late on I was asked if they could have it for another day to sort out the redline issue. Apparently they are looking at a coding issue as the coding was different for when it was delivered (We had another Skoda dealer code the single door unlock and doors locking at > 9 Km because we were promised these when standard on the car by the sales team).

Now they say it thinks its a Citigo Diesel. Not sure if that's the PID (or our Citigo  :D (75Ps)) So the saga continues.

I would have thought that the engine ECU would tell the car/PID which one it was?

How many other Citigo's have PID's that think they are connected to a Diesel Citigo and have not had any coding done?

When did you get your car? (is it a batch issue) Ours was March 2013.

Any coding tech's out there that could shed light on this issue?

Still waiting for Navigon to get back to me on this issue!!!!

Mines a 2013 January model (although it was made in December 2012) mine has the same thing, never bothered with it, I change at 4k rev's as it is if I'm driving like a knob on some country lanes..

Mines a May 2013 and apparently it's a Diesel [emoji15]

That's what came up when my Navigon was replaced with a Garmin [emoji57]

You can get the pid device on the Seat Ibeza, I reckon that's where Garmin have got their wires crossed with the petrol/diesel

Well the Citigo has returned un-changed. They looked at the coding for the car and said that did not make any difference to the PID. Apparently they tried a new PID and that defaulted to a Citigo Diesel as well. So they are now going back to Skoda technical and Garmin to see what the next step is? I won't hold my breath as Garmin still have not contacted me after a month of sending my email. So the stopwatch is running.

I would suggest others affected by this report it to Skoda UK to add weight to fixing this.

So if they are unable to fix the problem by resetting/replacing the original PID. Can I put in for a replacement Citigo   .

So the saga continues.

Today I get a call from my Skoda dealer. They asked me to contact Garmin technical. I spoke to a nice chap who tried to help with the problem. I was asked to carry out a factory reset. However when going to Navigon Fresh to carry out a restore it detects my PID as a SKODA Portable systems DRF. So no point carrying out a factory reset on our PID.

Garmin Said that the PID gets a code from the Citigo when its paired to give it the correct fuel info. So they say it is probably a Skoda coding issue???

Can someone who has a normal PID check what type their model is described as.

My PID reads to 6000 correctly. On Fresh My System described as Skoda Portable System DRF.

Cheers nbjubilee.

That backs up my theory of it being a car issue.

I carried out a full factory reset on the PID and updated the software as follows:

7.6.6 has 6K redline

7.10.15 has 6K redline

7.10.25 has to be connected to the Citigo before you can use it and on our car the PID recognises it as a Diesel.

Apparently its the radio unit that sets the fuel type.

Garmin said that the information about the car model or fuel type is stored in the car radio. Perhaps, a wrong radio was installed in the vehicle, which returns an incorrect value. The car dealer has the ability to read the vehicle data with his ODIS and check them.

So back to the dealer to see what can be done!! (Hopefully not at the garage for two days)
