A couple of pictures of my gorgeous Python. It is an absolute beast of a ship.

  • I'm not doing that again!   The ZX spectrum version ate 2 years of my lfe, and the 16bit rerun on the Atari ST / Amiga saw off another year.   I havent got enough years left to play Elite another

I have discovered that when you are attacking someone and they try and elevate their horizon away from you, you can very quickly catch them up again by disabling flight assist (holding the z key) and immediately enable flight assist again.

I have today been to an Anarchy system with a Kill Warrant Scanner.

To find an Anarchy system, in the Galaxy map go to View and change the filter from Allegiance to Government.

When you scan the target, go to the Contacts panel in the left hand menu and it will show any bounties (they still show 'clean' in the HUD).

I attacked an Anaconda with a 100,000 credit bounty, and almost immediately got attacked by another Anaconda resulting in me turn tailing and running.

Back to trading and local bounty hunting I think.

You need some backup in areas like that. I hope you targeted it's powerplant as it's quicker than trying to grinding it's hull down.

when I'm next at yours gilly, we'll try to get together, and form a wing, then go bounty hunting ;) anarchy's are always a bit risky (but fun, I like to trade with them, stolen goods (WSS) like rare art, trade routes, and military plans, on the black market, and buying slaves for missions ect ......

but yeah, we'll form a fighting wing :) (will have to read up on the controls! lol)

how do you target a power plant io?

I've been following this thread with a view to perhaps getting Elite. I now realise that as I cruising around the Galaxy with a two stroke spaceship and no longer understand any of your modern ways, Elite will be too difficult for me to comprehend :( :D I will stick to Angry Birds for now

Two ways -

target your target as normal

1. - lefthand panel under "subtargets" you will see all the modules in the targeted ship - just select the one you want to attack.

2. - use I and K (I don't think I've changed from the default key bindings) to cycle through the targets modules (or subsystems).

in both cases the module targeted will be shown in your target info on the left hand side.

Damage to the select module will only be made once you have taken their shields down.  This works well with any large hulled vessel from the Asp up.

Luddite!!

it's a little bit more complicated but i've have got around that by using "Voice atttack "  as an input device - that's why I have trouble remember actual key presses. (the old brain can't remember them very well.)

BTW if you hadn't noticed it's available via Stream and if you add to your library (Games, non steam game) you can stream it over your home network.  It seems to work on my win 8.1 tablet (I'll have to experiment to see that it works properly)

I liked it when you bought a cassette. Loaded it up (several times due to drop out, usually) and sat and watched bright dots and lines crash into each other as you docked your space ship.

I finally took the plunge and upgraded to an ASP.

I sold everything on the Cobra which netted me 9 million, then stored it as I may outfit it again in the future.

ASP is great for exploration.

great tips there, some good info :)

keep us updated on the asp gilly :)

I like it. It feels quick enough, and the cockpit has a wide view. You can also see over your head.

I obviously haven't got it outfitted as good as the Cobra, but I've got an A4 shield generator and a B5 FSD. I've also got a D2 laser and F1 cannon, so I can still Bounty Hunt, although I'll probably avoid Anacondas and Pythons for now.

It sounds like a 2 stroke.

I'm avoiding them at the moment as well ;)

had a slight incident flying into a sun :sun: luckily has a couple of afms on board to make some repairs. Making my way home (only about 1500ly) before I make any more mistakes (exploring can get a bit repetitive). Asp is great especially if you meet an area without many scoopable stars. Hopefully should add 200 systems to my totals. Interested to see how much cr the data will bring.

In the original Elite, you could 'save' regularly, usually before the Docking Computer crashed your spaceship for you and so you didn't lose anything overall. Is this not the case anymore?

You can save at any point but if your ship is destroyed you can't go back to the last save. You have insurance for 95% of the value of your current ship. If you don't have the 5% you can either remove upgrades, take a loan up to 200cr,use another of your ships or start again. The other consequence of the destruction of you ship is that your log is wiped so any unclaimed bounties or Navigational data you haven't sold is lost. If you use the insurance you effectively go back to the last save you had in a station before you were destroyed less 5% cash. So in my case sometime last Friday.

and i use a docking computer and it hasn't destroyed my ship yet ;)

I have been doing a trade route between 2 systems recently , one fed, the other indipendant and at war.....

when I land at the ind, I make about 100k in credit on kills at the nav beacon every trip! :o turning out to be liucrative :)

Docking computers are for girls.

Docking computers are for girls.

it's quite useful when you've been away exploring and you have forgotten how to dock. :nerd:

Docking computers are for girls.

The original docking computers were for Real men and women who were frightened by that off axis spinning thingie.

Honest, every time you used it it knocked the brightwork of my shiny ship, sometimes a lot more besides (when I say shiny I am using quite a lot of imagination)

I finally took the plunge and upgraded to an ASP.

I feel guilty that I turn up, distract you and then you get blown up! Especially as I made 300k at that nav beacon.

It was very funny! :)
