Elite: Dangerous

Featured Replies

I got into the top 70% in less than a couple of hours last night (454k cr) - depends what you have to fight in - that was  a mixture of eagles (4k), Cobra (8k) Vipers (10k) Asps (14k), Anaconda (36k) and pythons (26k) - ( I think that's right could have a couple of the values reversed).

Things have changed if you haven't logged in for bit - the Heat indicator scale has changed (now start taking damage at 100%)  and repairs and ammo are cheaper.

Well the war is done.. and i did get into the top 40% (16mil) but as i couldnt get on last night, i dropped back to 70%  - still might be vulture time now :)

still might be vulture time now :)

Had half an hour last night just to make sure that I was still in the 70%  - upgraded the power distributor in the Vulture and with the D2 beam lasers it's fun - I think i have the confidence to take almost anything on. With four pips to lasers you just keep your finger on the trigger (until you overheat!). The 750k cr + 6m cr is the most I've made in 2 to 3 hours play.

I like the Vulture so much I might use it to do some exploring - which will be challenge considering it's poor jump range.

Ah well - next time I guess.

Anyone looking for the Nvidia Black rare items? I don't I can be bothered as the card would worth twice as much as the rest of the pc. It should be fun to watch the people camped out waiting to "pirate" anyone coming to claim the card.

Im not looking for it, but i may go over to the destination starport (in a cheap sidey) and try some stealth messing about ;)

Now that I have enough money for an ASP, I don't want one. The Cobra when fully kitted out is an awesome machine.

I have discovered that you can exceed your power plant capacity but still operate normally by reducing priority to certain systems.

I have life support set to priority 2 and cargo hatch set to priority 3. When I engage hardpoints, all three of these modules are unavailable. I have A3 life support, so 25 minutes of fighting time before I need to return to base.

i switch off the Fuel scoop, FSD and Discovery Scanner on the Vulture when engaging hardpoints. If you think the Cobra is good -it's not as good as the Vulture as a fighter.  I have an Asp and I think I'm going to go out to the black again(with 30ly jump range ) to get my rank up now I've had a bit of fun in the Vulture.

can someone explain exactly how I'm supposed to use a kill warrent scanner? (not the idea, the operation)

You have to assign it to a button in your Fire Groups and make sure that Fire Group is selected.  When you have identified a "wanted" press the button you have assigned (you may need to deploy hardpoints) while keeping them in front of you - a graphic will appear (similar to the system scanner) and it will take ten seconds to do the scan and you have to keep them ahead of you -when complete it will say completed under the graphic. It had me flummoxed for a bit and it also took me ages to realise that you had to the same with the system scanner.

It is a good way of picking up extra bounties,  I haven't been to Empire space for a bit but have 150kcr to collect when I go there next.

thanks, but these are my problems.... how do I assign it to a button?! I can go in the panel and assign it a fire group 1 or 2 how do I make it "selected" ? isn't it selected when you deploy hardpoints?

On the Fire Group screen go to  the row that the warrant scanners on and press your select (mines the same as my fire button)  button,  once and a one should come up (meaning main fire button)  or twice a 2 should come up (meaning secondary fire button) - I can't give which keys as I've messed about with the keybindings so mine. You need to make sure that the Fire Group is active as well. (again I don't know what the default key bindings are).

For each Fire Group each device can be put on the main (1) or secondary (2) fire buttons. You need the right Fire Group enabled. How have set up the Discovery Scanner because it's very similar?   I could be you just haven't selected the correct Fire group?

thats part of my confusion, the basic scanner, isn't any fire group (nothing in the circle, not 1 or 2 ) and operates on its own when I target a ship. iT doesn't require a key...

I think you are confused - the basic discovery scanner is for discovering planetary bodies - it picks up items that you are close to (when you enter a previously unknown system) and you can can assign it a button in a fire group and press it when you are in an unknown system (Basic  500ly range , intermediate 1500ly and advanced whole system) when it picks up the sun it's because you are close to it - you must be missing out on lots of exploration credits! . If the Fire Group is selected  this appears on your screen during supercruise.

The Warrant scanner operates in a similar way but in normal space (it might wok in supercruise but have never tried it) you have to assign to a key just like any weapon.

so without a kill warrent scanner, what scans the ship when you target it and says "wanted" ? isn't that the basic discovery scanner?

also I want to do the exploring for money too..... so I have to press a key to make the scanner work? because the basic scanner scans the sun anyway...... no key.....

I also want a discovery scanner :)

gonna do aome playing today!

The scan system for other ships is not the basic discovery scanner, it is built in to the ship and does not require a fire group.

The warrant scanner, frame shift scanner and frame shift interdicter all require a fire button. Think of them as weapons, and assign them a fire button and fire group.

Press 'n' to change fire groups.

Is that how you do it ;)  I use Voice attack so have never used the Key press,

The basic discovery scanner scans the Sun because you are so close - if you have assigned to a button it scans in a 500ls (i think I said ly before) radius and "discovers" any other astronomical bodies which then appear as "unexplored" on your scanner (it also makes a loud "trumpet" noise when complete).  You can fly to these bodies and the ship will automatically scan them as soon as you are in range (the detailed surface scan module works automatically as well.)

The intermediate and Advanced scanner just increase the scan range. You get credits for finding the bodies using the discovery scanner and extra for scanning each body (more if you have the detail surface scanner) - and if you are the first to detail surface scan and sell the data for a particular body that's when you get the "First Discovered by" tag in the System map.

It took me ages to work out what they all did and only realised after I bought a Intermediate Discovery Scanner and I got the message to i had to assign it to a Fire group.

leaning all the time :) got rid of my missiles for multi cannons to see what they are like, got some gimballed beam lasers, and bloody hell they are better! lol.... and got a better power unit, and better power distributer..... ships a bit "harder" now! lol.... oh, I got rid of the kill warrent scanner and put a shield booster in its place....

I understand now though, thanks Gilly Io :)

Same. I'm nowhere near an anarchy system and still doing trading runs. I stop at every nav beacon on the way out and back for extra fun and credits.

I've been doing that since you showed me nav beacons, in warzones (and anarchys) almost every signal source is a pirate :) (I avoid strong signal sources) and the faint ones are cargo! so I have been killing a lot since the new power unit, distributer, and gimbaled bean lasers! I tend to make as much in bounties as the trade route! lol...

A ship will only come up "wanted" status if its wanted in that system - scanning it with a kill warrant scanner will see if its wanted in any other system...

So - generally a already-wanted ship will normally have extra bounties from other systems.. and also scanning ships that come up clean in that system may be wanted in others.

I tend to drop into nav points and scan anyone who tries to scan me.. theres also (allegedly) a rough way to tell the "role" of the NPC ships by the type of name they have.

Some of the names I've seen seem to indicate a different older profession altogether  :D

I am now classed as "unfriendly" by the federation! lol...

What have you been doing?

I've gone to do a bit of exploring in my newly kitted out ASP (btw the 30ly jump range is great!)  and about 400ly out I was scanned by a System Authority Vessel (a viper) in an uninhabited system.  I plan to see if I can get to the eastern edge of the galaxy.

As mentioned last night I hadn't realised you could see where your Friends are on the Galaxy map.
