Elite: Dangerous

Featured Replies

I havent been shot at by police yet, and I have been flying into anarchy systems (always getting interdicted!) buying slaves, and flying back to federation systems to sell them :)

You've not accidentally shot  one then when they stupidly fly in front of your lasers when they come to help when you are trying to kill a "wanted" ship?  (This is alleged to be fixed in 1.1, so that the Police aren't quite as keen on accidental shootings).

I presume everyone knows about binding a key to 75% and pressing it 7 seconds from your destination in supercruise mode?

er... no! do explain :)

Supercruise in at 100% until exactly 7 seconds from your target. Then drop immediately to 75% and you won't overshoot.

As we are on tips - After the countdown begins on inter-system jumping reduce speed to zero (press "x" in default bindings) and you'll exit the jump at 30km/s.

Always make the point of doing this after heading into the sun once - only realised once I had looked up from the webpage I was reading on my second monitor to realise I was going full till and temps were critical

Ive tried something else new today, I have been collecting "reble transmissions" ! lol....

If you're not sure which end the docking entrance is, it's always spinning anti clockwise.

After upgrading to a Hauler two days ago, removing all weaponry and loading up on cargo bays, I have enough money for a Cobra already.

Don't be in too much of a hurry to upgrade to the Cobra as without shields, power upgrades, weapon upgrades etc it is a little fragile.

I reckon it has cost me about 5 Mill to kit it to a decently survivable level with enough cargo space for hauling rares (34T). Full upgrade will cost about 11Mill.

Interestingly since I added an advanced discovery scanner to it while doing rare runs (and simply running it during FSD cooldown) I have gone up 2 ranks for exploration (one trip each way on fastest and one on most economical as that way I get 2 different sets of systems)!

Going to have to decide whether to stick to rares to try to get Elite for trading (which is getting a little boring) or to switch to discovery or combat.

I'm going to trade and do missions (which i find fun!) then when the cobra is kitted out, its fighting time ;)

do you have to turn the advanced scanner on? or does it just work in the background?

I have it set up as the third option on my hardpoints -

1= Kill warrant scanner + lasers

2= Multicannon

3= ADS (set to button 2 on my joystick)

All I have to do is jump to the system then press button 2 while FSD cooldown takes place  and I am aligning myself with my next destination (assuming I am doing a rares trip with the entire trip logged in). Scanning takes about 10 secs so as soon as the FSD has cooled down, I hit J to start the next jump countdown. You do not need to come all the way out of FSD

All in all it takes probably about 20-25 secs to complete. Note that the systems will still possibly show up as unexplored as there hasn't been a surface scan done (which gets more money) but for every body discovered, you get 250C IIRC (some systems have 20-30 bodies between planets and suns).

This has just been announced for xbox one so I'll pick it up when it releases

That will increase the players online!

Too late, and I'm glad I did. It's a great ship compared to the Hauler and Sidewinder.

I have again maxed out my cargo space and am now making 50 to 60 thousand credits per trip.

I've bought a discounted ASP  (15%)  but I had to sell some kit off the Cobra as I wanted to keep. and am now trading rare goods (in the Cobra) so that I can 1. Upgrade the ASP 2. Afford the insurance! Once I've got enough for decent FSD/Thrusters/Power/ distributor  I'll take the ASP out.  The two new ships that are coming in 1.2 the Fer de Lance and Vulture look good fighters.

I'm rubbish at combat as I was coming second to an NPC in Viper and had to run away to save my pride  :envy:

Have you tried selling Rare goods yet  even with just 32t cargo in a Cobra you'll get almost 0.5m for a full load. It does involve a bit a travelling.

I will get back into this, now that the fun and games of starting a new job are now well and truly passed, get the Sidewinder back out and start some rare runs

Exactly what I am doing atm - the travelling isn't too bad since the change in the route planning.

I have just 3 tons are rare goods hanging around in my cargo bay..... how far do you have to go before the value goes up?

IIRC 160 LY direct flight (might work out as about 190 LY travelled)

I haven't but I won't pass up that kind of opportunity. Thanks :)

Have a look at the frontier forums - there is a huge amount of info on them.

I reckon that I can do 2 runs (there and back) in just over an hour with the routing set on fastest (it does cost more in fuel but with a decent scoop you can refuel in 20-30 secs from near empty). Economy routing takes longer as it does short 5LY trips to save fuel instead of large 15LY trips but you end up doing the 190LY (actual distance of the run that I do) in about 30 jumps instead of about 15.

The main prerequisite for doing rares is a good FSD - the best you can buy as the bigger the jumps (remember laden your distance drops quite a bit), the quicker the trips and the more money you can make. IIRC I am using an A2 which gets me just shy of 17LY fully laden (34T cargo).

the FSD drives have me confuesed (upgrading) some have higher ratings, but less tonnage capacity!

Both the letter and number are relevant.

A low grade class 4 drive might have better range than a highly rated class 2 for example

the FSD drives have me confuesed (upgrading) some have higher ratings, but less tonnage capacity!

The ratings should be easy to work out but aren't that clear.

IIRC the letter designates the "rating" with E being the worst and A being the best. The number is the size of unit/compartment however weight does come in to it - a larger number is not always best as it can affect the optimum weight.

Confused? Yep me too. Thats why I just look at whether the numbers were red or blue (red=bad, blue= good) so the more blues the better!
