Resource Extraction sites seem to be more fun than the Nav Beacons as they have added asteriods!

  • I'm not doing that again!   The ZX spectrum version ate 2 years of my lfe, and the 16bit rerun on the Atari ST / Amiga saw off another year.   I havent got enough years left to play Elite another

I feel guilty that I turn up, distract you and then you get blown up! Especially as I made 300k at that nav beacon.

It was very funny! :)

oooh, you two met up to fight pirates? :)

"Hi"

"What happened?"

Just having another quick explore out towards the core - don't come this way if you want some "First discovered by"  as I'm already out 600ly and most things have already been taken.

Edit: But it's fine once you are out more than 1000ly. ;)

Think the RES are a bit too much for me - accidently stacked it into a rock before id even had chance to fire off a shot! lol.. quarter mil mistake that!

What are everyone's ranks?

Mine are Competent, Merchant and Pathfinder.  (not that good considering I've been at it since Dec.)

What are everyone's ranks?

Expert, Merchant, Aimless. I am allied to the Federation and a Warrant Officer.

I haven't done any exploring but plan on doing so when the ASP is kitted out properly, need about 25 million for that.

Do you take weapons when you explore or keep the ship as light as possible for extra jump range?

I've not got any weapons ;)   I have a shield though.  I don't think mine cost 25m to kit out - the big ticket items are the FSD, ADS, Powerplant and Power distributor. I have just under 30ly jump range I'd have more if I hadn't been nervous and fitted extra shield boosters and a big Fuel scoop.  It depends which way you are going how important the jump range is. If you go out towards the rim there are gaps between stars that can be quite large, towards the core It doesn't seem a problem (apart from the fact it will take more jumps).

I'm also Allied to the Federation  - but that wasn't planned.  I haven't attained any ranks yet - so far it only seems to get you a few permits and access to the Dropship (don't fancy that one) or the Imperial Clipper (looks better).

I'm "unfriendly" with the feeration, and a midshipsman..... cant remember what my other stuff is for now, don't get on that often though, so a bit behind!

Need to think about getting back on this - been a few weeks without any action on it.

Not a clue as to what my current status is in game.

what are "active community goals" and how do I participate?! :)

what are "active community goals" and how do I participate?! :)

They are events that have a certain goals on reaching those goals the rewards increase  - you are normally rewarded by how you participate.  You would need to find out where the community goal is, go there and sign up to it on the Bulletin board message and do what is asked.  I've been in two so far - Ist was collect stellar data and sell it at a specific station reward was a discount on an ASP, 2nd was at Lugh and was a cash Bonus of 7m  for fighting for the Crimson state in a conflict zone and collecting the combat bonds. If you go to a place where there is an active community goal it will all become clear when you read the bulletin board.

so I need to check the forums and stuff to find where the comunity goals are ?

Think I might keep an eye out for the community goals as well

The one at Lugh was exceptional good value  as you got paid for the Combat bonds and the reward  at the end (which ended up being 7m)  so probably made about 8mcr . The explorer one wasn't as good as the the reward was only a discount on an Asp. (15%). But I really didn't spend a lot of time on either.

right, done some more work, now got a detailed surface scanner, and a better power distributor :)

Still in the Cobra?

yup, got a while to go before its properly kitted out.... probably at about 50 % of its potential.... I have military grade armour, thats at the top.... I can have better everything else yet though! lol...

my trade ranking has gone up too :)

I have been killing Asps quite well..... I have been trying anacondas.... I used your method of targeting specific places, like engines ect :) thats quite useful with a large ship!

probabaly making 60k a trip on bounties, and less on trading... but enjoying it.... gonna kit out the cobra to top spec before I head out.... for a bit of an explore :)

Don't forget you don't need guns when exploring -just the best fsd.;)

one of the reasons I like this game is the open endedness :) I will be a hunter killer when its properly kitted out :) and after that go exploring ect .....

I intend to make it an awesome ship to the best of its ability .... (in the old game you could get prototype kit, like power generators ect //// hope they have something similar, I have bought and sold protoype tech .....  If you can't I will suggest it to them :) )

maybe I will buy a bigger ship when its done, THEN go exploring.......

open ended :)

I do get a bit annoyed by some of the posters on the ED forums obviously have a different mindset to us who enjoy mucking about for ages slowly getting you funds rather than trying to "complete" the game (if that's possible) and asking where's the plot all the time.

But then I've spent ages playing Elite on the BBC (now that was hard to dock!) ,  Elite on the  Atari 520ste, Elite on the PC, Elite on an Archimedes (bought for that purpose), Frontier (which I've still got) on the PC, First Encounters (which I've still got and that was really badly bugged) on the PC and then some of Egosoft's X series  which where the best thing if you had no Elite (X- Beyond the Frontier, Xtension and X2  ). Out of Egosoft's offerings I  like Xtension the best as it has no plot at all!  X2 is good but only because I've got my name in the credits!   B)  For some reason I never did get into the following games.(too much micro manager I think)

I have ditched D2 beam lasers for gimballed pulse lasers. No more overheating or waiting for power means faster kill time. Plus they're a fraction of the cost.

 gimballed pulse lasers.

I tried C3 pulse lasers in the Vulture, I just didn't like them - I also tried and c3 beams but they were good but used too much power so I went back to the C2 gimballed beams I had on the Cobra.  In fact it has less weapons than the Cobra did but I can fire the beams for much, much longer (with 2-3 pips to weapons)  - in fact the only limiting thing is the heat generated by them.
