I have been emptying my mums house because she has had not go into a nursing home. She is 98 now and sadly it was time.

That is not joyful but i have found pictures going back over 100 years of my mums & dads families and lots, boxes and boxes of them.

I need to get lots of them scanned.

 

There are ones of my dad when he was a member of the Tarlair Swimming club in the 1940,s when he met my mum and through the 1950,s to 1960,s when he was a Senior Champion in the North East.  I have his medals and will donate them to the Tarlair Swimming Pool Macduff after it has undergone a multi million pound rebuild.

It is a Lido that is easy to find on Youtube as model boat clubs, BMX / Skateboaders / Danny MacAskill etc have been posting and lots of the best Northern Light pics are taken there.

 

These were sent to me today.  My dad was Ernie Walker.   This will have been before he broke his back at a fall from a ladder.

He recovered from that and years latter doing a diving display there was a clash and he hit his back on a diving board and ended up back in traction.

Going through paperwork in my mums house i found pics of me long forgotten. Days when i had hair and even was a fashion icon when a child.

Picture of my first car and even me at work.  No idea why i had a dust coat as it was not like i did any work.

As a child you look just like me, identical hair, especially the hangy down bit pretending to be a sideburn before we grew facial hair!

 

I guess most of the barbers cut kids hair like that in those days.

This is my Mum & Dad. 

 

He was the 2nd youngest and his youngest brother died when around 12 years old, he had 5 sisters and 6 brothers born in a 3 room house. 

Carters & Hauliers that delivered coal.

I had a lot of cousins and 2nd cousins.     They are recognisable by the ears..

 

Bottom picture is 1952 i believe when King George VI died. Almost all the family there, Uncles & Aunties and Cousins. (No 2nd Cousins there.)

Or it might be at the time of the Queens Coronation in 1953.

The Queen was 1 year younger than my Mum. 

Before moving to Macduff my mum worked at Cuthberts Bakery in Fountainbridge Edinburgh & Sean (Tam)  Connery worked in the dairy.

He was 3 or 5 years younger than her depending on what age he claimed to be, seemingly 5 years younger when he died.

Agree 100%, and why I love using old manual focus Nikkor lenses from the late 1970s on my modern Nikon mirrorless camera. There's a character to them that the modern glass does not have.

Talking with a lovely nurse this afternoon, who told me that my (Tuesday) CEA blood test result was 1.3. 

This is in the normal range, so no further treatment other than periodic scans and 'oscopies' required.

I think this is as close as it gets to an 'all clear' statement for my bowel cancer.

Dogs.  I'm a dog person and always get along well with a good mutt.

 

Fixed a minor annoyance on my mobility scooter today, where it sometimes felt a bit weedy, and had some charging idiosyncrasies I'd been trying to get to the bottom of.  It's been back to a mobility scooter repair shop twice for this.  I took the three battery packs apart earlier, checked the wiring looms and found a couple of connectors in a terminal block that needed crimping to make the connections a bit more solid.  Putting the battery packs back on the scooter, I can feel they are now more firm as they locate 👍

 

Took the scooter out for a run to Polegate and back, and it also doesn't have the 'weedy' feel any more 😎  On my way up there i passed a lady walking two Springer's.  They were just ahead of her and as I went past they tagged along, perfectly happy to trot alongside me, tennis balls in mouth, and oblivious to having left their 'owner' behind.  Was a little moment of joy to turn around after a few hundred yards and return them to their rightful owner.  They were a lovely pair of Spaniels 🥰  I said I'd never have another dog after losing an English Setter to Parvo some 40 years ago, but now I'm not so sure......

Timely that you should speak of dogs and their in this case responsable owner just as I should post at my pleasure to have read an headline saying that dog owners in Beziers now have to have their dogs DNA tested (free of charge) to be able to walk them in the city centre.

 

Initially I thought it referred to the banned dangerous but sadly popular breeds which are often passed off as allowed breeds but no, its all about the dog poop problem shared by all of France, they are going to DNA test the dog poops that the municipal workers clear off the pavements every day, trace the owners and fine them!

 

The fine for walking a dog in the city centre that does not have its DNA registered is IIRC €60, the fine for not clearing up after it is €250.

 

The Maire of Beziers is a divisive figure and no doubt Lee will spend a happy day Googling him and the report back with his feelings but this strategy I think will be appreciated by all and spread.

Fabia was delivered courtesy of the lads at Gwalia Recovery on Saturday. I've had time to strip the passenger side suspension down, and so far the gloom is:

 

- Croissant spec wishbone
- Boomerang shaped tie rod

- Kinked shock absorber

 

But, the moment of joy was truly wonderful... I HAVEN'T BENT THE SUBFRAME!

 

So, once the parts arrive, the rebuild will begin.

I've just got an email from the current owner, who's coming down to Sussex in a couple of weeks for the next Mk2's Cruise.  He's suggested meeting up.

 

59 years old and I'm like an excited primary school kid!   He knows the backstory, but I still might blub.  It's 21 years since my mate Larry died, and I still can't listen to Coldplay (played at his funeral) without welling up 🙄
