MY16

Featured Replies

May'15 Brochure can be found here...https://tools.skoda.co.uk/content/brochure/brochure_octavia.pdf

Certain aspects of it suggest its pitching MY16 but the messaging is inconsistent in places.

- SE L new name for Elegance is mentioned.

- New engine specs are mentioned

- Smartgate and Mirror link get a mention but not MIB2

- SE L steering wheel is mentioned initially as 4 spoke, then later as 3 spoke

Feels like the May brochure is a rush/bodge job.

Either SUK doesn't really have a clear idea of what exactly MY16 entails in the UK hence the brochure is a pile of c*!p, or initial MY16 cars for the UK won't get MIB2 till later into the cycle (to clear out MIB1 stock?) and the brochure correctly reflects what one will get if they order and Octy in May.

I think best to wait for the configurator to come back up (can't be long now) and see what that reveals.

Looking at the brochure fir May 15 the only difference between the April 15 spec and the May 15 is the name change from Elegance to SE-L which is A bit pants

What is it with Skoda UK and those odd acronyms? I'm not aware of other markets where they'd use names such as S, SE or SE-L. :S

I think they used those names in Norway on mk1.

I was kind of hoping electric wing mirrors would be standard. (because I didn't spec them!)

What model? My elegance has folding wing mirrors as standard UK spec

Vrs doesn't have them as I need to add them.

I'm not really bothered. But I believe the MIB2 does not have cd.

More importantly for me though is the MIB2 is the new generation higher res unit. (same resolution as columbus is but as a free option)

Not quite same res (800 x 480 vs 800 x 600) but it will look a bit sharper than the MIB1 5.8" units where the res is 640 x 480.

But the screen unit of Columbus remains the same...

I think it's more than that.

MIB1 Amundsen 400x240 5.8"

Columbus 800x480 8" (from skoda website)

MIB2 Amundsen 800x480 6.5" (from skoda websitr)

Sorry didnt realised the MIB1 5.8' screen was that low res...doesnt look so bad in the car.

Same res as Columbus with less screen estate....will probably look a bit crisper on the lower end units then.

Yeah that's what I am hoping for too. I was quite surprised that the original unit was so low res too. I think now a days we are too used to super high resolution phones!

I cannot understand from where the car industry can buy so low res screens so high price? ;)

Ok. Have had written confirmation that my car will have MIB2 now. However if I am wanting to get the smartlink and Smart gate added to my car I will have to pay the accessory prices plus the my16 price on the car.

Apparently the my16 vrs hatch has gone down in price by £100 and the estate has gone up £100. So the question is paying the extra £350 for the extras or sticking with my "plain" mib2!?

Were there any options being included at no cost when you ordered your car? I ordered an SE estate on 24 April which included the multi function steering wheel (usually £155) and cruise control (£200) at no cost. If I were to add Smartlink to my order do you know if I would have to pay for the non-standard options as well as the increased base price (£155) and the Smartlink price (£150)?

Amazingly the configurator is still down after four days, so it's not possible to see what extras are currently included other than looking in the new brochure, which appears to contain several mistakes.

I may have to look at getting Smartlink retrofitted anyway, as I have ordered through an online supplier rather than a dealer and they have said they won't be able to tell me the build week. I suspect that they also won't be able to add on any extras.

I ordered through a dealer from the car wow website. At the time when I ordered they were still doing Amundsen free for the MY15 car. I had the price locked down for the car the free sat nav (and some other options) with a 6% discount off the lot.

When the MY16 options came out I simply added smart gate and smartlink and paid the £100 difference for the MY16 price (but still with a 6% discount)

All in including servicing the free sat nav options and the MY16 bits I still reckon I am saving between 8-9% off the list price of the car which seems not too bad.

Would be interested if you can get smartlink retrofitted as my dealer hasn't told me what the difference between a mib2 unit with smartlink differs from a unit without. He also said that you can't retrofit smartlink or Smart gate (I know he is wrong at least about Smart gate as others on this forum have successfully retrofitted that)

I thought about retrofitting too but in the end the lower cost of getting it as a factory option off sets the the extra price I had to pay for the MY16 increase.

"flipping a switch" had never taken so long! (only marginally shorter than the wait for my car [emoji27])

I suspect its not just flipping a switch. My guess is that SUK don't have a clue what MY16 entails hence can't validate and sign off on the updates to the configurator.

Wouldn't surprise me if it's still down at the end of this week.

Probably but they should really have the old configurator up until they are ready to "flip" to the new options. Not great for business if they are getting redirected to a number for such a long time.

There's probably some sort of convoluted project process to implement the switch flicking excercise that involves words like governance and riggor and vigour...

Sign off of said switch flicking is probably at the uat stage but any defects could push it right back...

I agree about the old Configurator but they would probably need an extra server or some nonsense to run them both or IT would need to charge double their already inflated support costs to have a new Configurator at uat...

But what percentage of sales or leads are they missing out on because customers can't window shop?!

Projects...

Just like this one I assume :p

The risks of having a Configurator that spec'ed cars with the wrong spec causing complaints and bad publicity would probably out way the risk of having no Configurator at all and an automated message that says it will be back up soon. Do agree though that the old Configurator should have remained but you can't buy the car on that Configurator anymore anyway.

Salesforce Developer. I do like my technology and with the speed on phone development change these days I don't fancy using a 6 year old car infotainment system!
